Children and Vacations

August 5, 2018 By Jodi

I’ve had my great-niece with me since last Monday. She is eight, and has been moving from house to house, visiting with family. I took vacation starting Wednesday, and every day, I’ve been picking up my grandkids, and doing something fun with them.

So far we’ve been to the Sweet Frogs (frozen yogurt,) the pool, the Children’s Museum, Home Depot for project day, and today, we’re heading for the Farmer’s Market.

I took LOTS of pictures this week, but only a few of dogs. Most of my photos were of kids, and most of our funny moments were also…with kids.

Because my great-niece and my granddaughter are close in age, my granddaughter has been with me Weds-Friday.

My niece was sleeping on a fold-put chair, and we decided my granddaughter would sleep with me.

Turns out, it was like wrestling a toddler.

I have a futon in my room, and because it was my granddaughter, Sampson had to sleep on the bed with her. So it was me, Sampson and my granddaughter.

After being awake most of the night, I decided to sleep on the floor the next night. I have a thin mattress topper that I threw on the floor, and I assumed Sampson would sleep with me. I was right.

Delilah started out on her bed, but then jumped on my bed, and my granddaughter wasn’t happy with that, so I had to call Delilah down.

She came, but wasn’t happy about it. So when I woke up in the morning, I wasn’t surprised to see that she wasn’t on her bed.

But when I went looking for her, I couldn’t find her.

Turns out, she curled up on my niece’s bed, and both of them were snoozing contently.

There is no sweeter chocolate in the world.

It made me smile, because of all the dog beds, couches and places to sleep in my house, my dogs choose the people. And I can’t help but smile at that.

What did your pet do that made you smile this week?

Well Played Delilah, Well Played

July 22, 2018 By Jodi

Due to Delilah’s Endothelial Decompensation, she doesn’t see very well. I often times forget this, until she stares at me, but she’s not actually looking AT me.

She’s ‘looking’ at me, but I’m actually more towards her right.

Because of her trouble seeing, most walks Delilah walks quite closely to the curb. On our walks there are many times where she doesn’t see a small branch in her way, and plows through it, or doesn’t see the sewer grate and comes close to stepping on it.

This past week one of our friends was out on her bike, and saw us, so she rode over and called hello. Delilah heard her and turned toward her, but didn’t see the bike, so when the bike suddenly was right there, she jumped.

As you know, we live in the DADO capital of the world, and I constantly have to be on the watch for the e-fence dogs who come charging at us, barking their heads off. The last thing I want is to be too close to a yard and have a barking dog startle Delilah.

There is one Golden Retriever in our neighborhood, that scares the crap out me when she’s out. I will watch for her, but sometimes she’s in her backyard, and when she hears us, she comes flying towards us, barking incessantly.

This was the case yesterday morning.

Thankfully, Delilah and I were on the other side of the street, when Bailey came flying at us, barking. It was about 7:00 am, and I made sure to say, “Jesus Christ” very loudly. Usually the owner is pretty quick to call Bailey back, but not yesterday.

Yesterday Bailey kept barking.

So I looked down at Delilah who was walking nonchalantly along the curb. She never even turned to look at Bailey. She slowed down to sniff, then stopped to pee, all directly across from Bailey. That’s when I noticed the hair was up along her back.

I figured what Delilah was doing was the doggie equivalent to flipping the middle finger.

And I smiled to myself, with a silent nod to her, and a “Well played Delilah, well played.”

You make me smile (or laugh,) the sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do that bring a smile to my face, or a laugh to my lips.

What did your pet do that made you smile or laugh this week?

She’s Too Damn Cute

June 24, 2018 By Jodi

Last night, I started going through my photos, looking for something to share today.

I’ve had my laptop for almost five years, and during that time, I’ve taken over 10,000 photos. Yes, you read that right, TEN THOUSAND PHOTOS.

I used up the free iCloud account a couple of years ago, and then I switched to the first level of paid iCloud. I think it’s $2 or $3 per month. Apple notified me a month or so ago, that I was getting close to my limit. The next tier is $9.99 per month, and I’ll be darned if I’m willing to pay that, so I started going through my photos and deleting the blurry ones, the duplicate ones, the ones I took just for blog posts, etc.

So far, I’ve deleted about 500 photos.

I was going to do today’s post about those blooper photos. You know, the ones I was staging for a post that just didn’t turn out the way I expected.

Until I ran across these.

In these photos, she was participating in her favorite past-time, of watching Chipmunks.

Now, I know I’ve shared at least one of them in You Make Me posts, but when I looked at all five of these together, they were just so damn cute, I needed to share them. There is something about a dog carrying a toy in their mouth, that just makes me smile.

You make me smile, (or laugh.) The sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do, that puts a smile on my face or brings a laugh to my lips.
