I’ve Got Something In My Pocket

July 23, 2013 By Jodi

Both of my tenants have dogs.   Yes, I take dogs.

When my second tenant was moving in I asked her what kind of dog she had, she said a mini-bull dog. When I went over to meet the dog, I expected to see a little white bull dog.  Imagine my surprise when Bindi was actually a pocket Pittie.

I love this dog.  She is absolutely adorable, always greets you with a grin and is extremely affectionate.  One day Hubby had to go over to work on the kick plate of the refrigerator.  As he tells the story he was down on his knees, with this elbows on the floor peering under the refrigerator, when Bindi stuck her face through the space between his body and his arm and began licking his face.

One day while I was over there, I sat on the couch while Bindi leaned against and drooled on my leg while I gave her rubbies.  She is really a lovely, lovely dog.

I had thought, maybe one day she won’t be able to pay her rent and she’ll offer me her dog. 🙂

Since most of the Labs in my state are currently in foster care I thought I’d check my local pound to feature for today’s blog hop.  The good news is my local pound doesn’t have any dogs.

Since Little Miss No Name was adopted from the Hartford pound last week, I thought I’d feature a dog from the same pound.  When I checked out their Petfinder page, they had seven dogs listed.  Sadly all of them were some form of a Pittie mix.  In CT, specifically in the poorer section of towns, this dog is really over-bred and exploited.  It’s very sad.

This little girl’s time is up tomorrow.  She’s been used as a breeding dog, and has now been tossed aside.

#46XXXURGENT: Pit Bull Terrier, Dog; Bloomfield, CT

There’s something in her expression that reminds me of Kolchak Puggle, her face just speaks to me.

Here is what the Petfinder page says about her:

Approx 3 years old.  This sweet little girl is another throw away mom.  She has obviously been used for breeding.  She is a tiny thing, almost looks like a puppy!  A sweet little pocket pit mix looking for a family to relieve her of what has been nothing but a stressful life of providing puppies.  She is SO sweet and quite mellow but certainly loves her affection!  Good with dogs she met.  Would love to see her relaxing on a couch with a person, enjoying what life should be about for a dog.

The adoption fee for a CT resident is $50, and $5.00 for non-residents. Which doesn’t make sense to me, but who am I to argue if it saves a dog.

Today is the day I beg you to share this post on your social media outlets.  We may not be able to save them all, but together we can save some.

Little Lady No Name

July 16, 2013 By Jodi

Normally when I participate in Tuesday’s Tails blog hop, I feature a senior black lab.  Here’s the thing about the senior black labs in CT.  The ones I’ve found are already in foster care.  They’ve already been given their second shot at life.  There are some dogs in CT though, that are living on borrowed time.

Literally.

The city of Hartford gives a dog taken into the pound ten days to get adopted.  Ten days and then they are euthanized.  It makes me cry just thinking about it.

So when this little lady came across my facebook page, I knew I’d have to feature her.

#24XXXURGENT: Hound, Dog; Bloomfield, CT Here is the sadder part.  She has no name.  It breaks my heart that her time is so limited that they can’t be bothered to give her a name.

Here’s what her petfinder page says:

Approx. 8yrs old….approx. 65lbs

This dog has just an incredible personality

She is super sweet

Very friendly

Great with dogs she met

Very affectionate…would love to be a lap dog

She is great on leash

This poor dog has had a rough life…her teeth are worn down like she has spent her life chewing on rocks…she is blind but gets along great..adapts well and quickly to her environment and she MAY BE pregnant. She needs a person or family to love her and give her the life she so deserves!

Her legal day of adoption is Thursday, July 18th, which just happens to be my youngest daughter’s birthday.  What a wonderful gift to my daughter if this dog could find her forever home.

Yes it’s true, my daughter does not read this blog and yes, it’s true she doesn’t know about this dog, but that doesn’t matter.  I know.  And I will tell her.  And because I told her and I’m her mother she will be overjoyed that we worked so hard to save this dog on her behalf. And she will celebrate her birthday knowing a life was saved in her honor.  It will be the best birthday present she ever had.

Trust me.

Typically I don’t ask my readers to share posts.  I like to say I’m a modest kind of writer and believe if I’m producing a good quality product and it touches you in some way, you will automatically share without being told.

Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe people don’t share my posts.  That’s okay.  On most days.

But it is not this day!

Today I am asking you to share, to take a couple of minutes of your time to tweet a link and/or share it on your facebook page.

You won’t know that you saved a life, but you’ll know you tried.  And that is a wonderful thing.

Thank you to Lisa at Dogs N Pawz for the Tuesday’s Tails blog hop.

Tuesday’s Tails – Regally Yours

July 2, 2013 By Jodi

What I love best about the Tuesday’s Tails blog hop is the opportunity to help an animal in shelter or rescue find a home where they can live out their days surrounded by love.

What I don’t like is perusing Petfinder looking for a dog to showcase.  It just breaks my heart to see so many pets that are homeless. And sometimes I just get angry when I read their stories and it’s also when I pull on my judgy pants.  And I can’t help it.

Take Regal for example, his owner’s relocated and couldn’t take him with them.

REGAL

This to me is unfathomable, I would never move somewhere where my pets could not go with me. I would sleep in a tent if I had to.  There I said it and may I just say, I hate sleeping in tents.

The petfinder page didn’t offer a lot of information about Regal, just that he is house-trained, knows some commands and of course would love a home of his own.

Regal is currently at the Humane Society in Walden, NY.

Normally I don’t ask people to share my posts.  I assume (perhaps unwisely on my part) that if you think I’ve got something particularly good to say that you will share it.  But I bend that rule on this blog hop.  My goal is to help animals find their forever homes and that means I will do what is necessary to accomplish this.  So please, please share.

Thank you to Lisa from Dogs N Pawz, she is the genius behind this blog hop.

This is Tuesday’s Tails.  The Blog Hop that features shelter animals.
