She Just Needed a Chance!

October 22, 2013 By Jodi

Her brown eyes stared out at me from her photo on Petfinder, wide with uncertainty. Eyes who will haunt my dreams for a long time to come.

Urgent

Her story was sad.  Life at the end of a three foot chain tied to a tree. Very little food or water, wallowing in her own feces, covered with ticks and fleas.  One of three dogs removed from an animal cruelty case, and up for adoption.

At the Hartford dog pound dogs get 10 days before they can be euthanized.  The pound will hold them longer if there is someone willing to take them.  They post them on Petfinder with their legal date for adoption.  Hers said, “NOW, URGENT.”

I shared her on facebook and asked people to share her.

Today she was gone.

I don’t know, Leslie pointed out that maybe it’s a good thing, maybe she made it out and I pray to God that she did, but my heart is heavy right now and my tears are falling fast and hot down my cheeks.

Poor sweet baby, just needed a chance.

There’s one more at the Hartford pound, his legal day is tomorrow. (Which means if he isn’t adopted out, he can be euthanized.)

Bulldog The adoption fee is $50 for residents and $5 for non-residents.  I will help you find transport, if you aren’t in CT.

Here is what Petfinder has to say about this guy:

“It doesn’t get goofier then him.  Super sweet and super friendly.  Affectionate.  Playful and very animated.  Great with dogs he met..big and small,  Loves to be close and thinks he should be a lap dog.  Great on leash and great when you drop the leash.  Eager to please and very smart!!”

Contact information to adopt this guy can be found here.

Who knows, maybe she got the chance she deserved, and maybe she didn’t.  One thing’s for sure, we can do all we can to help this guy get his chance.  Will you please share his picture and story on your social media outlets?

We may not be able to save them all, but we can save one at a time!

This is Tuesday’s Tails Blog Hop, hosted by Dogs ‘N Pawz, many thanks to Lisa and the crew for a great opportunity to help dogs in need of forever homes.

You Can’t Save Them All

October 1, 2013 By Jodi

The thing I love best about participating in the Tuesday’s Tails blog hop is I feel like I’m doing something to help dogs in need.

Dogs N Pawz

If I had unlimited resources, I’d have a LOT more dogs, and I’d set up a foundation to help dogs find their forever homes, because I hate (as I know you do) that so many pets are euthanized on any given day in this world.

I’d also set up a fund to help people who had fallen on hard times, keep their pets.

If I had unlimited resources I’d also work towards making sure that unscrupulous people, couldn’t get their hands on or have the opportunity to exploit dogs.  AND if by chance they did?  I’d find a way to get my point across to them, so dogs like Sugar weren’t bred and bred and bred and then surrendered when they were seven-years-old because they were “ugly.”

Sugar

Sugar’s lived a hard life, she’s been kept outside, chained to a tree in the dirt.  And did I mention she’s been bred?  Many times over and not by someone who is concerned with continuing the breed.  No, she’s been bred for the sole purpose of money.

Based upon the geographical area of CT where Sugar was surrendered, I can tell you that more than likely some (if not all) of her many puppies went to some very unsavory people.

According to Sugar’s Petfinder page, Sugar is house-trained, has been around people and children of all ages, has learned to walk on a leash and will be tested around other dogs.

Sugar’s $50 adoption fee, also comes with a voucher to have her spayed for free, along with two pre-surgical vaccinations.  She is currently at the Meriden CT Animal Control. The vouchers are not valid for out of state adopters.

Hubby always tells me “You can’t save them all” and it makes me so sad, but I know he’s right.

But dammit, today I can save THIS one.

Sugar 2

Today, together we can save Sugar.  Will you help?  Will you share her on your social media networks?  Will you help Sugar find a home where she is treasured and loved and treated like she deserves?

Many thanks to Lisa and Phe from Dogs ‘N Pawz for Tuesday’s Tails Blog hop.

Heya – Meet Taya!

September 17, 2013 By Jodi

Did you see this headline at the Poodle and Dog Blog?

Chihuahua awarded $100,000 in her owner’s will

The first woman to hold a seat on the NY stock exchange left her little chihuahua $100,000 in her will.   More than enough for her friend to provide the care that “Monster Girl” has become accustomed to.

If you have the money, why not?  Don’t the majority of us with pets worry what will happen to them if something happens to us?

I know if something were to happen to me Hubby would take decent care of Sampson and Delilah.  It’s true he probably would give up the raw food after a couple months of making trips to pick out food and I know they wouldn’t get daily walks in the woods, but he’d probably walk them around the block.  But the bottom line is they would stay with someone who loves them and they’d continue life as normally as possible without me.

But what if something happens to both of us?  I have one sister and one daughter who would care for them, but life would change dramatically.  Still they’d be with people familiar to them, people who love them and hopefully they’d be together.

Sadly there are some animals that don’t have that option.  Take this sweet little Corgi, Taya (tay-uh).

Taya - 1

Her owner is currently in a nursing home and is not expected to return.  At nine years old Taya’s little world is being turned upside down.  She is currently being cared for by her owner’s family, but needs to find at home before October 1st.  As you can tell Taya is a little bit overweight.  That’s because the older gentleman who raised her indulged her a little too much.

Taya - 2

Taya is spayed, up to date on her shots, has been regularly groomed and is housebroken. She’s sweet, accustomed to other dogs, and has ignored cats which have come into the yard. Taya does NOT like a crate, since she associates it with a vet.

Taya - 3

Taya is currently in Oklahoma, there is a rescue who has agreed to take her if we can’t find her a home.  I think it would be far better for Taya, if she only had to move once though, what do you think?

Do you have a plan in place for your pets if something unexpected were to happen to you?  Will you share Taya on your social media networks?  Did you know this is the Tuesday’s Tails Blog Hop founded and hosted by Dogs ‘N Pawz?
