Many thanks to our hosts.

We host Christmas at our house and at times it can be very hectic.  While we don’t have a LARGE family, two dogs and two little ones make for an exciting time.

The last few years I’ve taken to making Lasagna.  I like it because I can do the majority of the prep work the night before, which leaves Christmas morning for hanging with the fam, and allows me to really enjoy the holiday.

If you saw my Facebook status on Christmas Eve, you know that Delilah also enjoys the holidays as she is always underfoot waiting for her opportunity to steal some food.  I said, “Get out of my kitchen” (or some variation of with compound swear words) so many times, I was afraid I was going to say it in my sleep.

Luckily for me, Sampson is such a good boy.   For instance, while we were all opening gifts, this is what he was doing.

Delilah meanwhile was hawking around the food table, waiting for someone to turn their back so she could snag her opportunity.   Honestly she only licked the garlic bread once!

When it came time to do the dishes, she was best served with a job.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Yup, she took care of the pre-wash portion of the dishes.

Afterwards I captured what may just be my favorite picture.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Sampson and my niece, who clearly adore each other.

How was your holiday? Did you go out to stay in?

This is This ‘N That Thursday, hosted by 2 Brown Dawgs and Ruckus the Eskie.

Nursing Home Tales and Advent Calendar for Dog Lovers Day 19

Many thanks to our hosts!  Let’s get started shall we?

My mom came home from the rehabilitation center yesterday and went to spend some time at my sister’s place.  But before she did we managed to get the dogs up to visit her once.

Mom and Sampson She cried when she saw him.  She said he’s getting so gray!  But at least you can see where I get my Heat Miser hair from, I do come by it naturally. 🙂  I know that was mean, she’s in a nursing home for Dog’s Sake!  I’m a horrible daughter and I’m going to hell.

good boy We brought the dog’s mats so they’d have a place to lie down and we shut the door to her room.  It happened to be around dinner time and there was a knock on the door and the door immediately opened.  Thankfully I’m quick cause I caught Delilah’s leash as she bolted for the door.  I can only imagine the chaos that would have reigned in that place with those poor defenseless people getting their meals and Delilah on the loose.  (Has anyone ever been kicked out of a convalescent home?) The poor girl who opened the door screamed and practically dropped the food tray.  She was terrified of Sampson and his ‘green’ eyes.

good Girl After that fiasco, Hubby kept his foot on her leash.  Can’t have crazy labs running around terrorizing people who are trying to get better!  So much for trying to make them therapy dogs!

Night

And finally, it has nothing to do with the rehab story, but I took this picture of my back yard one night not too long ago.  I thought it was cool.

Thanks again to our hosts, 2 Brown Dawgs and Ruckus the Eskie, join us tomorrow for Follow-Up Friday, where I answer questions, post some of my favorite comments and wrap up my week!

Thanksgiving Weekend

Originally we intended to go to New Hampshire to visit my sister and her husband over the long Thanksgiving weekend.  But when Mom got sick, my sister decided she needed to come to CT instead.  Me being the oh so generous wife that I am, suggested Hubby head to NH for a ‘boy’s weekend’ while my sister and I enjoyed a ‘girl’s weekend. Well you know what they say, the best laid plans and all.  Turns out we were super busy.

So when Sunday morning rolled around, I decided to park myself on the couch for a few minutes to shop for purses. My sister meanwhile was elsewhere in the house.

Okay, she was using the toilet if you have to know, when all of a sudden the dogs started barking like demons were circling the house.

My sister cut her business short thinking she might have to save me from something and the three of them dashed to the window, faster than the main character in “A Visit from St. Nicholas” by Clement Clarke Moore. (Ok, technically Santa Claus MIGHT be the main character, but let’s roll with this okay?)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Yeah, the picture is dark.  It was an overcast day and I don’t turn on lights.  Sampson is there in front of my sister, while Delilah is clearly silhouetted.

I mentioned I was shopping for purses right?  So you can see why I didn’t jump right up.  Well the three of them looked out the window and then the dogs ran to the front deck and then back to the window and I just couldn’t concentrate with all that racket, so I got up to see what had everyone’s attention.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA There were some turkeys across the street.

And then the turkeys crossed the street to my neighbor’s yard, so the dogs had to go outside, where they could stand at the fence barking at them.

Can you handle a little joke?  I hope so, because I’m doing it anyway.

Q: Why did the turkeys cross the road?

A: To see what the dogs were barking at of course!

The barking dogs didn’t frighten the turkeys at all, in fact a few of them stopped to look.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Whatchoo lookin’ at fools?

It was a stare down in my yard.  My two barking dogs and these five bold as brass turkeys. (Who didn’t realize their cousin was already cooked and sitting in my refrigerator.)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA These other four could have cared less, they were pecking the grass for something.

And there I was in the front window snapping away like I’d never seen a turkey in my life.  Honestly I took like 17 pictures.  Of turkeys!!

A short time later my sister and I saw a herd/group/flock of 15 about 4 miles from my house.  Someone must have been spreading the word that Thanksgiving was over and it was safe to come out. 🙂

Thanks again to our friends at 2 Brown Dawgs and Ruckus the Eskie for This ‘N That Thursday blog hop.
