Vermont Soap Giveaway

April 24, 2013 By Jodi

Last November, Hubby, Sampson, Delilah and I went to New Hampshire to visit my sister and her Hubby.

One of my favorite things to do in New Hampshire, besides spend quality time with my sister is to shop.  My sister lives in a small town of less than 6,000 people.  There’s a handful of big name businesses, but the majority of businesses are local mom and pop stores and I find the neatest things.

Which is how I happened to find an all natural, organic pet shampoo made by Vermont Soap.  I picked up a bottle to use on Sampson and Delilah.

I fell in love with it the moment I used it.  I loved it so much I thought it would be nice to provide a product review and giveaway.  I contacted Vermont Soap and they were kind enough to provide me with a package of goodies to try, as well as a bottle of shampoo for one of my readers.

The shampoo is a blend of essential oils and the first thing I noticed was the smell.  The shampoo has a strong smell of tea tree oil, with a hint of citrus.  It’s a very pleasant smell so much so, I find myself wishing it was a candy so I could pop one in my mouth.

I got a little nervous when I poured it in my hand as the consistency is very thin.  I was concerned I would end up using a lot, but that was not the case at all.

It lathered up nice, rinsed out well and left my dogs smelling nice and clean.

The ingredients: Saponified organic coconut , olive and jojoba oils, natural essential oil blend including tea tree and organic orange oil, organic aloe vera and rosemary extract.

Sampson WET So you’re saying because I’m dirty and wet, I need a bath?

What I liked:

  • Non-toxic (no chemicals or harmful ingredients) in case of accidental ingestion drink milk or water.
  • Organic (no pesticides or chemicals)
  • Smells great
  • Lathers up nice
  • Rinses well
  • Reasonably priced ($9.98 for 16 oz)

What I didn’t like:

  • There’s actually only one thing that comes to mind. When I inquired about what exactly was a “natural essential oil blend” I was told it was proprietary and they couldn’t tell me. I understand the reasoning, I would just like to know exactly what types of oil are being used.  I work hard to build and maintain a trusting relationship with my readers and want to make sure I’m not steering you wrong.

My contact at Vermont Soap sent me a lovely package of non-toxic products which I’m currently using.  I hope to have a review of those products for you in a couple of weeks.

What about you?  Would you like to try this organic, non-toxic shampoo on your pet?  All you have to do is leave me a comment by Sunday at midnight and  I’ll use random.org and draw a winner, which I’ll announce next Monday.

Oh and if you don’t want to wait, the shampoo is currently 25% off on their website.

Disclaimer: I originally purchased my own bottle of shampoo, but I was provided a beautiful package of products to try in exchange for my honest review.

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday.  I’m flying solo today as I waited too long to ask people.  It’s  super easy and I’m always looking for a co-host, just let me know if you’re willing to co-host the Follow-Up Friday blog hop.   The hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

Black and White Sunday

Black and White Sunday 4-14-13

100_0944 Here’s the original photo.  It was taken in Emerald Isle, North Carolina.  One of these days I’m going to do a post all about this trip as you can see I have some beautiful photos.

Miss Harper Lee asked, “How do I get there?”  We drive Miss Harper, but there are local airports as well.

Dead Dog Walking – Update

This post was incredibly hard to write, as I feel so helpless.  The photos really tug at my heart.  So far I’ve been told by three of my contacts that they don’t have any contacts in the area. I’ve got a couple more to try but right now it’s not looking very good.

Please if you know anyone that does rescue, pass the information along, working together we really can make a difference.

ACD6Pack said, “I often look at my rescued pack of seven and wonder how could nobody want them?”  I wonder that myself my friend.

Our Appointment with the Holistic Vet – Update

The prescribed herbs came in the mail on Tuesday, two bottles that need to be kept refrigerated, something I’ve found very common with the Chinese herbs I’ve used.

I dug frantically through the box looking for the invoice and couldn’t find one, so I looked at the invoice from his visit.  Everything was already included on that!

Rosemary mentioned, “I’m thinking it might be a little pricey though.”

Are you ready for the sticker shock?

The vet charges a traveling fee of $75, HOWEVER my friend Jo-Anne was having her dogs looked at the same day directly before me, theoretically Jo-Anne and I could split the travel fee in half.  I say theoretically because thus far Jo-Anne had refused to do so.  Yes, I’m aware I owe her BIG.

Without the travel fee my bill was $111.00, which included $30 for the herbs and $6 for shipping making his home visit including the acupuncture $75.00.

Now even if I had paid the traveling fee the entire bill would still have been less than $200.00.  I don’t know about you, but it’s a rare occasion when I get out of my vet’s office for less than $200.00.

Genevieve asked, ” Does he do massage therapy?” Not to my knowledge, he does laser therapy and he can do chiropractic adjustments, but I don’t know about the massage part.

Most of you felt similar to the way I feel, that treating with a mix of traditional and holistic is the way to go.

Wordless Wednesday – Update

Some of my favorite caption suggestions were:

Caren Gittleman “I don’t know about you, but this Squirrel TV that we hear about is highly over rated!”

Roxy the Traveling Dog “Did you see it? No, did you? Maybe, I think it was that same squirrel. Crap, and we’re trapped inside.”

Jessica@YouDidWhatWithYourWeiner “No…but that looks like my old couch :)”

Misty Shores “Sampson did you see that, I think that squirrel just flipped us off!”

So without further ado, here is the original photo with my caption.

This ‘N That Thursday – Author’s Note

Here’s the difference in my two dogs.  Sampson wants to be where we are, as long as we are together and calm, he’s the same way.  He’s traveled with us since he was a puppy.  He would stay in a hotel room by himself (not that I would EVER do that!) he would lie under or beside me or Hubby wherever we were.

Delilah won’t.  She would bark in the room every time someone walked by the hall.  She would be trying her best to get at any piece of food she thought she could reach and she certainly wouldn’t lie under the table while we were eating.  She has traveled with us, but we’ve always stayed in houses.

Right now it’s looking like both dogs will be staying home.

I’m sad because I really wanted Sampson there, but I have to do what is best for both my guys and in this case it means keeping them together.

That’s another Follow-Up Friday wrap!
