Hey Sweetness

December 30, 2012 By Jodi

Hey there.

Sampson here, and Delilah’s right next to me.  Today we’re picking up the slack for mom.  We found out yesterday that she waited over two weeks to accept an award.

Delilah: Quite frankly I find this….well….unacceptable.  I mean, she expects me to learn three or four tricks in a night and she can’t even be bothered to accept an award in a reasonable amount of time.

I swear I wish they made a clicker I could use, I could whip that woman into shape if I…..

Sampson: Delilah, can you focus?  We’re here to answer some questions that go along with the Super Sweet Blogging Award we’re accepting for mom today.

supersweetlarge

You know the one presented to her by Gizmo from Terrier Torrent?

Delilah:  Oh, yes that little fluffy dog mom pointed out to us the other day.  I’m not sure I’d like being a fluffy dog, it seems to me there’s a lot more work that goes into keeping yourself presentable then our short fur.  I mean I suppose….

Sampson: DELILAH!  Can we get on with it?  It’s almost time for our walk.

Apparently these awards come with some type of guidelines…rules if you will, that we must follow.  This one has questions we need to answer.

Are you ready?  Here are the questions, I’ll answer first.

1. Cookies or Cake?

Sampson: Cookies of course.

Delilah: Cookies, definitely cookies.  I mean what dog doesn’t like cookies?

2. Chocolate or Vanilla?

Sampson: Vanilla, I’ve never had chocolate.

Delilah: Well duh, I’m chocolate, of course I love chocolate, even though mom just about loses her mind when she catches me eating it.

3. What is your favorite sweet treat?

Sampson: Strawberry milkshakes.

Delilah: I’d have to say chocolate….wait a minute!  You get strawberry milkshakes?  When do you get strawberry milkshakes?  I never get strawberry milkshakes.  MOM!!

4. When do you crave sweet things the most?

Sampson: The only real time I eat sweets is at 9:00 pm snack time.

Delilah:  Oh yesssss!!  Snack time!  I LOVE snack time, when she takes those little bones and freezes them with pumpkin and applesauce OR better pumpkin and yogurt.  Oh, oh wait my absolute favorite is the Kong stuffed with pineapple and yogurt.  YUMMO.  We haven’t had those in a long time, I wonder…

Sampson:  Hem, hem.  The questions Delilah, let’s finish this up please.

5. If you had a sweet nickname, what would it be?

Sampson: The closet I’m called to anything sweet is Punkin.

Delilah: Duh, Sweet Pea, Dad always calls me Sweet Pea.  I love Dad.

Sampson: The next part of the award involves passing it along to 13 other bloggers.

Delilah: 13?!!  Do we even KNOW 13 bloggers?

Sampson: Do you want to help or not?

Delilah: Well of course I want to help.  I’ll nominate all the blogs with the handsome dogs….

Sampson: Never mind Delilah, I’ve got this one.

All Things Collie

Bringing up Bella

Brown Dog CBR

Collies of the Meadow

Cupcake Speaks

Doggy’s Style

How Sam Sees It

Little Dogs on Long Leashes

Misty Shores Chesapeakes

My Girlz Got Paws

Peaceful Dog

Talking Dogs

The Poodle and Dog Blog

Sampson: Well there you have it, unless Mom’s been hiding something from us.

Delilah: I wouldn’t put it past her, she’s tricksy that one.

Sampson: As I was saying, as far as we know she is caught up now.  I hope you enjoyed our picks for the Super Sweet Blogging Award, and we hope you visit their blogs and make some new friends.

Delilah: Special thanks to our friend Gizmo for passing this award along to us.

Sampson: Is it time for our walk yet?

Blog of the Year 2012 Award

December 29, 2012 By Jodi

I’m embarrassed and very ashamed.

Why?

Because our dear friends over at Hey It’s Jet Here, presented us with the Blog of the Year 2012 Award.

2012 Blog of the Year Award

2012 Blog of the Year Award

No that’s not anything to be ashamed of!  What I’m ashamed of is they presented it to us over two weeks ago.

My excuse?

Of course I have an excuse,

I was working on the Calendars.  (I can still use this excuse for now because it hasn’t been that long.  Rest assured I’ll be sitting here thinking of another excuse once I can no longer use that one.)

Getting an award from a fellow blogger is like winning the people’s choice award.  Your work is judged by those who read you consistently, not someone who reviews a select portion of your work once a year.

What?

It’s not an Emmy?

You’re right of course, it’s better than an Emmy!

The Blog of the Year 2012 Award comes with its own set of rules, as do most blogging awards.

Ready?

Here goes:

1)  Select the blog(s) you think deserve the ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award:

While I love reading every one of your blogs, I’m going to keep my choices down to a select few.

  • My Brown Newfies – Her post yesterday was titled “What’s eating Jenny Jugs?”  There’s a whole story behind the name Jenny Jugs and I actually laughed out loud.  I get such a kick out of Jen and her stories of Sherman and Leroy.
  • 2 Brown Dawgs – I was so excited when they decided to add a third dog to their pack and I’ve enjoyed watching Freighter grow over this past year.  I find this blog to be educational and informative and love learning about training your dog to hunt.
  • Rescued Insanity – What an inspirational blog.  Kristine adopted a dog. A dog that was a little bit nuts, but did Kristine give up on Shiva or turn her back over to the pound? NO.  She worked with her dog and kept working with her dog.  When I see how far Kristine has come with Shiva, it definitely gives me hope for Delilah! (Shhhh, she’s actually the inspiration for me taking Delilah back to class, but don’t tell.)
  • Something Wagging – Come on, you knew it had to be coming!  I sometimes think her blog should have been titled Heart Like a Dog, because I read her posts about the lessons she is learning from Honey and I think to myself, why can’t you do that with your stories?  Duh, because I’m not Pamela!
  • Shoes on the Wrong Feet – This woman can write.  I love the way she spins a story.  If you’ve never read her story about the chipmunk and the cat (that was not her cat but now is her cat)…..well let’s just say you need to read it.  When she’s not being hysterically funny….she’s being serious.  But either way, it’s a great read.

I suppose I could continue, pulling each blog from my blogroll or google reader and telling you why I think they deserve the Blog of the Year 2012 Award, but I think it’s wise to stop here while your still reading.

The rest of the rules:

2)  Write a blog post and tell us about the blog(s) you have chosen – there’s no minimum or maximum number of blogs required – and ‘present’ them with their award.

3)  Please include a link back to this page and include these ‘rules’ in your post (please don’t alter the rules or the badges!)

4)  Let the blog(s) you have chosen know that you have given them this award and share the ‘rules’ with them.

5)  You can now also join our Facebook group – click ‘like’ on this page  and then you can share your blog with an even wider audience.

6)  As a winner of the award – please add a link back to the blog that presented you with the award – and then proudly display the award on your blog and sidebar … and start collecting stars.

I’m not sure what the whole ‘star’ thing is about and I don’t have an area on the sidebar to display badges.  Guess I have something to work on, huh?

Are you familiar with the blogs I chose?  If not, then you’ve got some reading to do. 🙂

Co-Hosted Follow-Up Friday

December 28, 2012 By Jodi

Welcome to the Co-Hosted Follow-Up Friday, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

Yes I have a co-host this week.

I’ve been following my co-host for about a month now, and getting to know her through current posts.  I’ve recently had the time to poke through the blog though and I realized exactly how much we have in common.

Her Thankful Thursday post from 12-20-12 expressed so many of my own feelings about walking with my dogs.

“Today, on Thankful Thursday, I am grateful to have a dog that loves nothing more than a long walk in the woods.”

“When life closes in, when stress mounts, there’s nothing better than a long walk in the woods. Sometimes, no matter how much I know I’ll enjoy it, it’s hard to work up the motivation to gather the gear and make the drive…and then I think about how much Gizmo loves our adventures, and that’s enough to get me up and going.”

“t brings me great joy to see him having so much fun. As we hike along the trail tension melts…I breathe deeply and  enjoy the peace and solitude. I notice the beauty of my surroundings. I feel good.”

Well you get my point right?  I could see me and the dogs taking a hike with them.

Yes. I. Could.

Please welcome my co-host this week, Gizmo and his mom Beth, from Terrier Torrent.

Home for the Holidays – Update

Well the dogs are not adjusting well to the puppy at all.  In fact, Sampson has gone after the puppy on two different occasions where the puppy retreated whimpering and whining.

I had reached out to Deanna, from For the Love of My Dogs.  Deanna does a lot of fostering and I thought she might have a solution.  When she had a similar situation with one of her fosters, the only thing that worked was putting the dog in the crate while still being able to see others interacting with the other dogs.

Our daughter is using our crate for Bo, but both times Sampson went after Bo, he went into the bedroom and was sequestered for his behavior.

Our friends the 2 Brown Dawgs suggested gates.  We rearranged the living room furniture so Sampson and Delilah were restrained.  They seemed to do very well, but it was after we let them out that Sampson went after Bo the second time.

My son-in-law keeps saying they will work it out, but it makes me so nervous.  I do not want my dogs to be the ruin of a puppy.

My dogs are perfect to me, but that doesn’t mean they can’t have bad days or quirky personality traits.  That being said I think there are times when they are sending a signal to Beauregard that he either doesn’t understand or chooses to ignore.

I have watched Sampson with that get it away from me look on his face trying to get away from Bo, but Bo keeps following him.

He’s so cute though, check him out.

I also think they’re not giving him a chance.  So we are managing with crates, gates and “Sampson, be nice!”  “Delilah, be nice!” ” Bo, come here.”

For a person who has always heard, What a great dogs you have, I feel like an utter failure.

I told Hubby, it’s probably a sure bet I’ll never be able to foster a puppy.

Christmas Eve – Update

According to the tracking system the US postal system uses, all calendars sent to residents in the US have been delivered.  To our friends in Canada and the UK will you please let me know you received your calendars.

There is a whole little story behind the calendars but it’s too lengthy to share in the FUF post, I plan on writing about it hopefully within the next week or so.

Merry Christmas – Author’s Note

I took the day after Christmas off and besides walking the dogs, I did nothing much but sit on my computer and catch up on my blog reading and commenting.

I do have to note though, it sucks going back to straight coffee after you’ve had some lovely days with Irish Coffees. 🙁

WTF Wednesday – Update

First it should have been titled WTF/Whoo Hoo Wednesday, but it’s been so long I completely forgot how I roll.

Now about that dog….Noelle as she has been named was bleeding from her nose and had Kennel Cough which turned into Pneumonia along with a partially collapsed lung.

The latest update I received stated she is ….responding well to treatment and they are looking for a foster home with no animals (due to the Kennel Cough.)

Pet Blogger Gift Exchange – Author’s Note

I supposed I should have told you this, but Cokie the Cat is a male.  I know, I know, I referred to her, but I was referring to Kristin as her, since she is Cokie’s mother.

I just wanted to clarify because I noticed many people referring to Cokie as she or her.

The other thing I forgot to do on this post to provide a link back to Pamela’s Blog.

Ooops, my bad.

That’s it for me.

This is the Follow-Up Friday Blog hop, hosted by Terrier Torrent and Heart Like a Dog
