Throwback Thursday – Lessons Learned

July 7, 2016 By Jodi

This post was originally published six months into my blogging career.  Looking back I can see I had already started trying to make the blog a humorous one.

To set the background, we had spent the weekend at my sister’s house in New Hampshire.  Usually we stay in my sister’s spare room, but in this instance she had a friend staying with her, so my sister and brother-in-law slept on the bunks in the basement, while Hubby and I stayed in their room.

Apparently there were adjustments all around. 😀

Life is about learning. I like to think I learn something new every day. You don’t always know where the lesson will come from, but it comes none-the-less. Sometimes it comes from the least likely source. I learned some fairly important lessons this weekend, which I would like to share here tonight.

Dogs and Food – A dog who will ignore his kibble and refuse to eat while on vacation approaches raw food differently. He will eat raw food on someone’s deck or even on an access road at a rest area. Lesson learned from Sampson Stone-Golden Lab.

Some things are worth burning your tongue for (like bacon grease.) Lesson learned from Delilah Stone-Chocolate Lab.

Dogs trying new things – A dog that runs an agility course like a champ will refuse to use a ramp outside a doggie door. If you try to force the dog down the ramp by tugging her, you will slip on a dead mouse and slide down the ramp on your ass. Lesson learned from Delilah Stone.

Dogs and sleeping – Dogs know where their beds are; even if their parents have given up their bed for guests, they want to sleep in their bed. Lesson learned from Gordon Kelly-Golden Retriever and J.D. Kelly-Jack Russell Terrier.

If you refuse to let a dog sleep in their bed, they will wait you out in the hall outside the bedroom door, causing you to trip when you get up in the night to use the bathroom. Lesson learned from Gordon Kelly.

When there are dogs sleeping outside your bedroom door; your dogs will not sleep. Lesson learned from Sampson and Delilah Stone.

Dogs that haven’t slept for three nights….

Like to be pampered.

Lesson learned.

When you’ve been blogging for almost seven years, you tend to forget certain things. I’ve been enjoying going through posts for Throw-back Thursday. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I did.

Will the Guilty Party Please Stand

April 28, 2016 By Jodi

This may come as a surprise to some of you, but I don’t make my living blogging. No, the sad truth is, in real life, I’m an Administrative Assistant for an Engineering Firm.

I tell you this, because yesterday was Administrative Professional day, which I totally forgot about until I saw someone’s post on Facebook.

So when my boss asked me to go into the conference room because my co-worker needed to chat, I was understandably suspicious.

Turns out Joey DID have something to chat about, but it was really a diversion while my boss snuck this in.

Pretty isn’t it?

Purple, my favorite color.

Purple, my favorite color.

What the fuck does that have to do with a dog blog you ask?

Hang in there friend, I promise you, a dog figures in here.

When I left for the day, I brought the plant home with me. I thought I could find a hook somewhere to hang the plant.

Turns out the hook on the plant was too thick for any of the available hooks at my house, and we were expecting a frost last night, so I put the plant on the corner of the pool table.

The CORNER of the POOL TABLE! You see that in the photo, right?

I put the plant on the corner of the pool table and went to change into my walking clothes. I grabbed my treat bag and as I did, I saw this.

Looks like part of a PURPLE flower to me!

Looks like part of a PURPLE flower to me!

Yeah, in the two minutes it took me to change my clothes and grab my treat bag, someone tried to eat the flowers.

Process of elimination will tell me who it is.

Sampson, can barely walk, never mind stand on his BACK LEGS to reach the pool table, so we’ll take his name out of the hat.

Delilah on the other hand, well Delilah routinely goes onto the pool table to score nummies, AND Delilah can STAND on her back legs.

For further proof to substantiate my claim, see the below photo.

Do you see that whitish looking spot on the left side of the flower? That's wet.

Do you see that whitish looking spot on the left side of the flower? That’s dog slobber.

That particular flower is on the back side of the plant, which means the dog that did this really had to reach for it.

So there’s my evidence and my argument, who do you think the guilty puppy is?

It’s A Pissing Contest – Barks and Bytes

April 7, 2016 By Jodi

Since Sampson did a partial tear on his cruciate he isn’t aloud to be outside unsupervised. This development has given me the opportunity to observe a couple of things about my dogs.

The first being when walking the dog, I have a better chance of getting past another dog or a distraction with only one dog vs attempting it with two.

The second has to due with their competition with each other. I always KNEW they were in competition, all you have to do is ask my arms and they will tell you, it’s a competition to determine who will lead the walk.

What I didn’t know was just exactly HOW competitive they really were.

That is until yesterday.

Yesterday it was brought to my attention that my dogs are in a pissing contest.

Literally.

My dogs are in a pissing contest.

It started like this. Tuesday night I took the dogs out for the last potty of the night. Sampson for some unknown reason decided to pee in the snow that was left on the deck. (You remember, that white shit we got from Mother Nature’s temper tantrum Sunday into Monday.)

Done, over, we went to bed.

Yesterday morning Delilah wanted to go outside and as I watched her, she sniffed the snow where Sampson had peed and then took a few steps past it and she peed.

When Sampson went out again, he took a few steps past Delilah’s pee spot and then he peed.

Then she peed past his pee and then he peed past her pee.

The end is nigh.

The left arrow is her 2nd pee and the right arrow is his third.  And that’s the end of the deck. SMH

Last time I looked there were five pee spots on the deck.

Yup, it’s a pissing contest at my house.

Do you have dogs that compete with each other? How do you deal with it?

Pee past this biatch.

Pee past this biatch.

The Last Barks and Bytes

Thursday, January 23, 2014 was the first day of the Barks and Bytes Blog hop, hosted by 2 Brown Dawgs and yours truly.  It’s been a great two (plus) years, but all good things must come to an end and after much deliberation, Linda and I have decided it’s time to end to the hop.

I’ve met some truly wonderful people through the blog hop and gotten to read some amazing blogs that I might not have found on my own. For that I’m very grateful.

I’d like to thank you all for joining and supporting us on the blog hop and I’d like to say a special thanks to Linda for being such a great co-hostess. I certainly couldn’t have done it without her.
