Holy snap!  At my count that is 35 participants, well up from last year’s 20!  This is going to be a great contest.

So tell me, how did you choose your photos?  There was one I really wanted to submit of the dogs sitting in front of my flowering trees, but when I checked them out, there was only one with both of them in it and they were looking away from the camera and Sampson had a big bald spot on his head.

Bald spot story.  Apparently there is something in our yard that Sampson is allergic to and it’s something that he sticks his head under, so I’m thinking bush or tree branch.  The allergy gives him little hives on his head and they itch so he scratches and well before you know it, he’s got an infection.  Now that we’re aware of it, we keep a close eye and start slamming him with Benadryl the first sign of hives.

They're not looking at the camera in this one.

They’re not looking at the camera in this one.  And of course there is that bald spot…

I love this one, but Delilah's not in it.

I love this one, but Delilah’s not in it, and of course there is that bald spot…

I love this one, but Sampson's not in it.

This might have worked, but Sampson’s not in it and there would also be that bald spot…

So you can see my dilemma.  I finally took them up in the woods and set them in on a rock and snapped a photo.  It’s not my best, but it’s the best one I have at the moment that has both of them in it.  I know I’d never hear the end of it if I submitted just one of them.

So how did you choose?

Follow-Up Friday Has Fleas

August 16, 2013 By Jodi

Um make that Flea.  Not the bug, the blogger.

As I mentioned yesterday, my co-hostess this week is a newbie.  Not to the blog hop but to the co-hosting duties. When I asked her to co-host I promised I’d write something nice about her.  She said to tell you she was crunchy.  I think she’s hysterically funny and wish my posts were as funny as hers.  She is the first blogging friend I met at Blog Paws.  An animal lover through and through as you know if you read her blog.

Please stop over and say hello to Flea from Jones Natural Chews.  Thanks so much for joining me this week Flea, it’s awesome to have you on board.

Yes, it’s Follow-Up Friday.  The blog hop that helps you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

You Make Me Smile

Many of you commented on the beauty of this photo.  I’d like to take credit for it, but that was all Mother Nature.

Autumn Dancer Llama Farm

Emma asked, “Now that fenced in area for the dogs…looks like any dog could just duck under the post or was there another fence?”

Here’s the answer I got from Ginny (one of the owners): the Llama in the picture who kept looking at you is Satin. Crystal is the Llama kissing Chet (smile). For folks who were asking about the backyard fence, there’s very strong woven wire that’s attached from top to bottom of the poles…so far this has been doggy proof (no escapes). However, we are having the “test” right now…4 large Rottweilers and 3 Dobermans (and their owners) are presently vacationing at the cabin.

Jessica said, “Cabin rentals are our vacation salvation with Silas, because he gets overwhelmed by hotel noises. Some cabin rental places really pack them together, though, which cuts down on the fun.”

There are two houses on the property.  One is occupied by the owners and the other is the cabin.  It really is very quiet and peaceful.

And to all of you who want to go with me next time I say, HELL YEAH!!

Blueberry’s Human asked, “what happens if the llama does NOT “accept” you???” and Jen asked, “So I’m wondering what does the llama do if it doesn’t accept you? Kick? Spit?”

I imagine they tear you to shreds like the Hippogriff, but you can bet I won’t be hanging around to find out!   Truthfully I think they just turn away from you.  We were told they rarely spit and when they do it’s usually at another llama.

Jan K asked, “Also, what place can you go with your dogs, and leave them at the cabin and they’ll be let out (if you wanted)?”

Exactly Jan.

It’s a Piece of Fruit

Carol asked, “Canned green bean………really?????”

Yes really.

Blueberry’s Human asked, “Do you also end up with various scratches and/or bruises due to Delilah’s enthusiasm for treats for tricks?”…….and ” hope she has a “soft mouth” like Blueberry.”

Yes. She’s very enthusiastic and not shy about letting you know she what she wants. Many is the time I’ve been scratched or stepped on.  And once she drew blood on my hand.  And no, she does not have a soft mouth.  Most times I have to give her the treat in my palm which can make for a very wet hand, but it beats dripping blood. 🙂

Sugar said, “Next time, may we suggest that don’t bend down so much.”

I know, I know.  My trainer keeps telling me, but it’s a hard habit to break. 🙂

2nd Annual Dogs of Blogville Calendar Contest

Frankie and Ernie said, “HEY….. that is US. We want to get in again this year… would you like a pic of us in our Tighty Whities… instead of our ZoomO’s????? BaaaaaWaaaah”

And when they sent their entry, guess what?  Yup, they sent a picture in their ‘Tighty Whities.”

These two are quite the characters, no?

These two are quite the characters, no?

So far I have eight photos, Blueberry, Frankie and Ernie, Dakota, Maya, Alma and Moses, Molly the Wally, Winston, Roxy the Traveling Dog.  I’m so excited to show you all the awesome photos!

Some comments I got regarding the video:

Julie, “I like how Sampson walks up and does every command on the first try ;)”

Jessica, “I also love Sampson. He’s all, “yeah, I’ll sit for that. But I’m not going to carry on like she does.”

Sampson is a very good boy but he’s not into learning tricks.  Thankfully he’s very good at sit and down. 🙂 They were easy for him. 🙂

Thanks for joining Jones Natural Chews and Heart Like a Dog for Follow-Up Friday.  Don’t forget to submit your photos for the calendar contest.

Thanks again to Flea, see that wasn’t painful was it?  I am always looking for co-hosts for this blog hop, just leave me a note in the comments.

Autumn Dancer Llama Farm

August 12, 2013 By Jodi

About three hours east of Nashville, nestled in rolling hills is one of Tennessee’s best kept secrets.

The cabin at Autumn Dancer Llama Farm.

photo-4

The cabin itself has a 1/4 acre of fenced area for your puppies to run with the horses and donkeys, or just enjoy a little bit of freedom.

photo-2 The front of the cabin is completely fenced in.

For the last couple of weeks I’ve been sharing photos of our recent vacation to Tennessee.  Finally all our traveling is done, I’ve got my computer issues resolved and hopefully things are well on their way to back to normal.

Some of you expressed interest in the cabin, so I thought I’d share a little bit more here today.

I first saw this cabin on Facebook.  Kim from Life at Golden Pines had just spent a weekend there, and I clicked on her link and immediately thought I want to go there.

This three bedroom, two bath log cabin, with a hot tub and fenced front yard, sits on a 17 acre llama farm.  Reasonably priced at $135 per night, the cabin is equipped with anything you could possibly need.  A grocery service is also provided for folks who arrive later at night and don’t want to chuff groceries for their evening meal, or next day’s breakfast.  (Honestly, I’ve stayed at higher priced hotels and gotten much less then what is offered at ADLF.)

The owner’s Ginny and Ed Miller are warm and welcoming, and we immediately felt right at home.  Should you wish to take in any of the area attractions (Dollywood is about an hour away, Ashville, NC about 1 1/2 hours) Ed and Ginny are more than happy to let your puppies out for a potty break.

We ended up just staying in as Delilah was a bit unsettled by the trip.  In fact, until about Thursday she wouldn’t let me out of her sight.  So I didn’t feel comfortable leaving her alone.  Instead, we took them into town with us to do shopping and Hubby sat in the car while I ran in.

The llamas were very comfortable around the dogs, in fact they would come out to look at us.

I don't know this llama's name, but she sure liked to look at us.

I don’t know this llama’s name, but she sure liked to look at us.

There is a certain protocol used when meeting/greeting llamas.  You should keep your hands behind your back and bow towards them, letting the llama sniff you. If the llama accepts you (s)he will blow softly in your face.  You can blow back and then using the back of your hand, you can stroke the llama.

Hubby grasped the concept quite well and was quickly nose to nose with one of the friendliest llamas.

I on the other hand likened it to greeting a Hippogriff and I wasn’t quite as comfortable.  I kept thinking of talons tearing me to shreds, except they’re llamas, and they don’t have talons. I expect all my curtsying confused them.

Hubby wanted to get some fishing in, so he booked a trip with a professional fisherman.  He was on the water 20 minutes and he caught his first fish.

Don't worry. It's catch and release. No fish were harmed in the taking of this photo.

My expectations were a bit different.  I wanted to take walks with the dogs and have a couple of cocktails.

Little paths throughout the farm, were great for walking.

And if you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you know cocktails were every day at 4:00 pm.  😉

All in all, it was a wonderful, relaxing vacation which ended far too quickly.

If you’re interested in learning more about the cabin at Autumn Dancer Llama Farm, I encourage you to check it out on VRBO.
