What's In A Name?

March 25, 2012 By Jodi

This technically should have been a Follow-Up Friday post,  but it was pretty long and I felt it deserved its own space. 🙂

A little background, please.

Last Saturday I wrote ‘Expect The Unexpected.’  In that post I made mention of a woman named Brenda.  I’ve mentioned Brenda before, she always walks with about six dogs.  Many times she has other people and their dogs with her as well.

Brenda trains dogs.  I have no idea what her qualifications are, but her methods are if you don’t pay attention to me, I’ll leave you.  Brenda is friends with the woman who owns the dogs I wrote about on Saturday.

The stage is set.

Flash forward to this past Monday.

I pulled up at the field to walk the dogs and encountered…the LaCrosse team.  Yes, it’s that time of year when the town LaCrosse team commandeer the field.  This means both dogs walk in with me on leash and I keep them on the upper trails so they don’t bust up a LaCrosse practice/game.

I got Sampson and Delilah almost all the way up to the top of the hill and noticed someone walking in with a pack of dogs.  The dogs saw mine and started running at us at which point I always drop the leash.  Far better for Miss Delilah to meet and greet others on the playing field to keep her from reacting.

Sure enough as I got closer it was Brenda.  Included in her pack was a small dog and her little puppy and he was a real cutie.

I said, “The LaCrosse team is down in the field, it’s that time of year when we need to check the schedule before coming out.”

Brenda said, “Like that will happen.”

Ok, whatever.  I’m just sayin’ if you don’t want to worry about your dogs running off and jumping on some four-year-old you might want to do some planning.  But who am I?

Brenda had entered the ‘loop’ which is fairly small but allows you pick up two different trails.  Coincidently that was where I was headed and I didn’t see an issue, but apparently she did.

She said to one of the dogs, “We’re going to have to wait.”

Ok.  Again.  Whatever.

She decides to head down the wide path towards the field with her entire pack of dogs, except for…puppy.  Who decided he liked my pack better.

Meanwhile I’m trying to get my dogs on the trail and puppy is right there, jumping at my dogs saying, “Come on let’s play.”

Brenda is still walking down the path.

I don’t know what to do.  Do I stop and wait for her to come get the puppy or for the puppy to figure it out or do I keep going with the puppy following me?

I’m unsure.

All of a sudden from down the path I hear “F***!”

Here comes Brenda, “F***, I’ve got F***ing 20 f***ing minutes to take a f***ing walk.”

She gets to the top of the path and points in front of her and says, “Get your little a** over here” and then to me, “Excuse my language.”

Excuse your method of dog training is more like it I thought to myself.

The scary thing is, she calls herself a dog trainer and oh yes, she has the business cards to prove it.

Where'd It Go?

March 24, 2012 By Jodi

This morning I decided to sit down and finish my taxes.

Delilah was bored, I could tell because she had her squeaky football in her mouth and wanted to play fetch.

Hubby threw the ball a couple of times, then she brought it to me in the den.  I threw it down the hall a couple of times and then she decided she wanted to go out on the balcony.

After a minute or so I checked on her and found her staring down the driveway.

Just staring.

I looked out to see what had her attention and saw her ball, rolling down the driveway.

If you look very closely, you can see a little red dot where the driveway meets the road.

Yup, that's it.

I couldn’t help myself, I had to laugh.  She was so stinkin cute,  just standing there staring.

I ran down the driveway in my pajamas.  I do just about anything to get out of preparing my taxes. 🙂

Follow-Up Friday

March 23, 2012 By Jodi

For those new to the blog, my follow-up Friday provides me with an opportunity to update or revise a post from the previous week.

You know sometimes you post about something and you need an update but it doesn’t warrant a whole blog.  Or sometimes someone made a comment that really resonated with you.  Yup, Follow-Up Friday baby! :-)

Expect The Unexpected – Update

When I caught up with my walking friend on Sunday, she told me that Brenda (who walks people’s dogs during the day for a living) had come back and couldn’t understand why the dogs had run off.

Duh, they were walking with us!

I also found out the dogs are kept in crates when they are in the house.   If that were me and I had the opportunity for freedom I’d take it when I could get it.

I’m a firm believer some people should NOT have dogs….or kids but that’s another topic. 🙂

In this post I mentioned how Sampson and Delilah always have a collar on, even in the house.  Their house collars are different from their walking collars.   Inside the house they wear a collar similar to this.

It has one small tag (with a silencer) that has their name, my name and my cell phone number on it.  It fits them very loosely, more like a necklace rather than a collar.

I’m fairly comfortable with them wearing the loose collars because I know they are not actively playing with each other during the day,  My mom who is in an in-law unit downstairs assures me that most days they don’t even make it off the couch. 🙂  If they played and rough-housed during the day I might re-think it.

Have You Seen My Camera – Update

As you can tell from last night’s video, I did find my camera.

I walked around with poutface all Wednesday night.  I wrote the post about losing the camera.  You left me suggestions of where to look.  Believe it or not, I had looked in every one of those suggested places with the exception of the garage.

When I got home last night Hubby and I were talking about it.  Hubby said, “I was going to buy you something for your birthday anyway, I’ll buy you a new camera.”

Most people would be really grateful for this offer, I on the other hand said, “I don’t want a new camera. I have a perfectly good camera that works for me, I just have to find it.  And what happens if we buy a new camera and I find mine?”

Then I told him of the garage suggestion, so he said, “I’ll go look there.”

When I’m working on my laptop I’m either in our room on the bed, or on the couch.  We had looked in both of these places already, but I decided to check the couch one more time, to make sure it hadn’t gotten wedged in the cushions.

I flipped the couch over and started searching it from the bottom up, I was up to my elbows in couch when I happened to look over and see my camera sitting on the floor!!  The camera must have been dislodged when we flipped the couch back the day before.

Summoning Charms – Author’s Note

I’m still waiting for the video to go viral. 🙂

Happy Friday everyone!!
