Congratulations!!

May 21, 2012 By Jodi

I have to throw a big congratulations out to three of my fellow bloggers.

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a big pet blogging social media conference taking place next month.  I had really hoped to go, but finances just wouldn’t allow, so I will have to read all about it from all you awesome bloggers who do attend. 🙂

I read on the Blogpaws website this morning that at the conference there will be a Nose-to-Nose Pet Blogging and Social Media Awards event on the red carpet Saturday evening, June 23rd.

I was so excited to find out that three of the bloggers I follow, were nominated!

Kristine from Rescued Insanity is up for Best Blog Writing.  How awesome is that?  Seriously the girl puts out good quality blog content (with a little help from the tornado on a leash,  Shiva,) raises money for animals, runs in marathons and all without breaking a sweat.

Up for Best Blog Photo, is Jen at My Brown Newfies.  (Go ahead check out the photo, I’ll wait.) Isn’t it absolutely adorable?

I only recently started following My Brown Newfies and I have to say, her Leroy reminds me of Delilah, only way bigger.  I’d go so far as to say cuter, but sorry Jen I gotta stick with my chocolate girl.  I sure do hope you win though! 🙂

Last, but certainly not least, up for Best Cause is BTC 4 Animals.  If you’ve been around the blogosphere for a while you know that every three months on the 15th, is Blog the Change, a day when pet bloggers unite and blog about a way to help animals.

This dedicated group of ladies don’t just blog about change once a quarter, they all have their passions and work tirelessly to educate and inform and really BE the change.  Just pop over and check out the website to see what their cause is today.

I really wish I was going to be in Salt Lake City cheering my friends on, but since I can’t you can bet I’ll be cheering from home.

Congratulations to all of the nominees and best of luck to my blogging friends!! I can’t wait to hear all about it.

Our First Shivie

February 16, 2012 By Jodi

In yesterday’s post I mentioned that we had received two awards and told you I would share the second award today.

Well as you can see from the title I’ve been awarded “Shiva the Dog’s PerSeverance Award” from Kristine and Shiva over at Rescued Insanity.

Perseverance Award 2012

When Kristine established the ‘Shivies’ last year, she gave the award to ten dedicated bloggers.  This year she dedicated the ‘Shivie’ to ” People who have sacrificed their very sanity for the love of a dog.”

And she awarded it to us and nine other incredible blogs.  You can check out the complete post here.

When I was in college my favorite class and the very last one I took to complete my degree was Interpersonal Relationships.  I missed the very first class because we were away on vacation but I had e-mailed the instructor to let him know why I would be absent.  Yes my kids called me a brown-noser, but I chose to think of it as….um…interpersonal relationships.

This class was very diversified and there were some students much younger than I was, in fact I might have been the oldest in that particular class, but that isn’t the point.   The point is we got to talk about relationships and get to know each other by sharing thoughts, opinions and feelings.

This may come as a surprise to you, but I was very verbal in that class.  I know, I surprise myself sometimes too.

The instructor had devised awards for this class, he called them “The Stoneys” and I loved it because well, my last name is Stone. Duh.

The Stoney’s had something like five different categories (I can’t remember what they all were now) but the twist was the instructor didn’t choose the students to present the awards to, he let the class choose.  He passed out a sheet with each category on it as well as a sheet with each student’s name on it and he asked the students to choose which among their peers was deserving of each award.

For the last class of the semester we had a potluck supper and we all gathered in a conference room to celebrate our successful completion of Interpersonal Relationships.  At that time, our instructor presented the Stoney Awards.  Before he began his presentation he made a little speech where he said that the class chose exactly the way he himself would have.

Imagine my surprise when the instructor presented “Contributed the Most to the Class” to me.  I was stunned, humbled, flabbergasted, excited, proud and honored all at the same time.

The Stoney

And that is exactly how I feel about receiving the Shivie.

Kristine says the Shivie is for “People who have sacrificed their very sanity for the love of a dog.”

Ok, ok, she does at times drive me to the brink of insanity. 🙂 No, not Kristine, Delilah!

But the thing is I don’t feel like I am doing anything different from any of you would or have done, including Kristine herself.

I mean, yes there are days when I truly wonder if Delilah will eventually be my downfall.  Whether it be by driving me to insanity or physically killing me, I’m not entirely sure.

Hubby always says, “She is one dog that is happy to be alive.”  And that is true, Delilah embraces life, she runs head on full throttle at it.  Her attitude is “bring it on.”

There are many days where I have to laugh at this zany, exuberant, jumping, crazy dog because if I didn’t, I would put my head down and sob.

I waffle between thinking she is mildly retarded to down right dumb to just excited to have someone who wants to spend time with her.  I can’t help but love her, because she gives me no other choice.  She demands that.  She has that “You will love me and you will have fun doing it” attitude.

Life isn’t always easy and we have to find our joy and laughter where we can, Delilah brings both of those things into my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Kristine, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this wonderful award and I only pray that someday Delilah will be as good as Shiva.

Follow-Up Friday

January 13, 2012 By Jodi

For those new to the blog, my follow-up Friday provides me with an opportunity to update or revise a post from the previous week.

You know sometimes you post about something and you need an update but it doesn’t warrant a whole blog.  Or sometimes someone made a comment that really resonated with you.  Yup, Follow-Up Friday baby! 🙂

Heavens To Murphy – Update

Last I heard K was home from the hospital, when I checked with Sara she had heard NOTHING about them bringing Murphy to training classes.

I started thinking, I would love to take Murphy for a month or two (and charge them of course,) put her on a diet and bring her to some training classes.

It would be great if there was such a place where people COULD drop their dogs off for a couple of months and then maybe during the last week, the owners would join their dog.  They would then see their dog and the ways their dog had changed and be SHOWN how to manage their dogs.

Sort of like a Doggie Boot Camp. 😉

When You’re Down – Update

The stomach bug came and went in very quick fashion.  I was feeling much better the next morning and even managed to make it into work.

Thank you all for the good thoughts and well wishes.

One From The Bucket List – Author’s Note

I debated this post.  Not because I’m not proud of my nephew, but because I normally write about the dogs.  I originally started the post talking about the walk I took with the dogs in the morning, before my sister and I left.  But I couldn’t get the post to flow.

I thought about and decided the name of my blog is Jodi Stone, I’m selling myself and my ability to draw an audience and weave a tale.  The by-line is “Life With Sampson and Delilah” but the blog is mine.

Kristine from Rescued Insanity said it best in the comment she left on Pet Blogger Challenge, “What you said about your blog being all you, I really like that. Oddly, I never considered it that way before but I agree that it is such an awesome thing. It’s your space on the Internet. You own it and can do with it as you see fit. If the sky is purple in Jodi-land then no one has a right to question you. I like that thought.”

I like that thought too, Kristine.  So much in fact, you all might be hearing Jodi-land a LOT. 🙂

Yesterday my friends, the world was very sunny in Jodi-land.

How was your week?
