I Feel Like a Number

August 20, 2013 By Jodi

Sometimes it seems to me the plight of animals in this country is totally hopeless.  Day after day animals come across my facebook page looking for their forever homes.  A quick search on Petfinder shows me hundreds of animals in my area in need of homes.

Thankfully a good majority of them on Petfinder have already been pulled and are well on their way to finding loving forever homes, where they are experiencing love and kindness, some for the very first time.

Some of them, particularly in the pounds in the poorer cities will not make it out.  It breaks my heart.

Today I’m joining Tuesday’s Tails, the blog hop that features shelter animals.

Dogs N Pawz

I love Tuesday’s Tails because it makes me feel like I’m actually doing something to help animals in need.

It is the one day of the week I beg you to share my blog post on your social media outlets to help these animals in need because we know that social media saves lives.

The dogs I’m showcasing today have basically nothing written about them.  They don’t even have names, just numbers.

These guys are in the City of Hartford (CT) animal shelter and here is what their website says, “ALL DOGS ARE URGENT- DOGS ONLY GET TEN DAYS TO BE ADOPTED BEFORE BEING EUTHANIZED! (THE TEN DAYS START THE DAY THE DOGS ENTER THE DOG POUND..) The “LEGAL DAY OF ADOPTION” is the first day the dog can be adopted into a home and the day the dog can be put to sleep if no home is lined up for the dog.”

It makes me sick.  Their Petfinder Page shows they currently have 12 dogs.

{name} - {breed}  #138XXXURGENT: American Bulldog, Dog; Bloomfield, CT  {name} - {breed}   {name} - {breed}  {name} - {breed}  {name} - {breed}

{name} - {breed}  {name} - {breed}  {name} - {breed}  {name} - {breed}  {name} - {breed}  {name} - {breed}

If you can’t tell from the photos, the majority of these dogs are listed as Pit Bull mixes and every single one of them will be put to sleep if homes aren’t found.

Since the dogs can’t be adopted until their time in the pound is up, it’s important to share them and have homes or rescues lined up, so when their time is up they can be pulled.

I ask you to share, because even though you might not be able to take a dog, someone you know might share and someone they know might be able to help.

Look at those sweet faces, it’s worth the effort don’t you think?  The buttons are just below the post.  Please help ease the ache in my heart by sharing.

Hey Dude

August 6, 2013 By Jodi

Sung to the tune of Hey Jude

Hey Dude, please don’t be sad

Turns out your not, an Irish Setter

Tuesday’s tails will do their part

And do our best to make it better

Hey Dude, don’t be afraid

You were made to be loved unfettered

Someone out there will find their way through the din

Then you’ll become their kin and your life will be better

And any time you feel a tiny bit sad, Hey Dude, it’s rad

We’re trying to make it better

Dude is at Manchester, CT animal control (860) 645-5516

Dude: American Staffordshire Terrier, Dog; Manchester, CT

From his Petfinder page:

Dude is a sweet laid back guy. Isn’t he handsome!  He has obviously has been taught some manners in his life. He’s not too bad on a leash, and he’s not a jumper. Dude knows how to sit, and likes to run after the ball. We guess he is 2-3 years old. Dude would make a great addition to any family, we suspect that he will be good with other pets.

He is listed as an American Staffordshire Terrier/Pit Bull Mix.

This is Tuesday’s Tails blog hop hosted by Dogs N Pawz. It’s also the day I beg you to share this post on your social media networks.

Many thanks to Lisa at Dogs N Pawz for Tuesday’s Tails, the blog hop that focuses on helping shelter animals find their forever homes.

Working together, we really can make a difference!!

I’ve Got Something In My Pocket

July 23, 2013 By Jodi

Both of my tenants have dogs.   Yes, I take dogs.

When my second tenant was moving in I asked her what kind of dog she had, she said a mini-bull dog. When I went over to meet the dog, I expected to see a little white bull dog.  Imagine my surprise when Bindi was actually a pocket Pittie.

I love this dog.  She is absolutely adorable, always greets you with a grin and is extremely affectionate.  One day Hubby had to go over to work on the kick plate of the refrigerator.  As he tells the story he was down on his knees, with this elbows on the floor peering under the refrigerator, when Bindi stuck her face through the space between his body and his arm and began licking his face.

One day while I was over there, I sat on the couch while Bindi leaned against and drooled on my leg while I gave her rubbies.  She is really a lovely, lovely dog.

I had thought, maybe one day she won’t be able to pay her rent and she’ll offer me her dog. 🙂

Since most of the Labs in my state are currently in foster care I thought I’d check my local pound to feature for today’s blog hop.  The good news is my local pound doesn’t have any dogs.

Since Little Miss No Name was adopted from the Hartford pound last week, I thought I’d feature a dog from the same pound.  When I checked out their Petfinder page, they had seven dogs listed.  Sadly all of them were some form of a Pittie mix.  In CT, specifically in the poorer section of towns, this dog is really over-bred and exploited.  It’s very sad.

This little girl’s time is up tomorrow.  She’s been used as a breeding dog, and has now been tossed aside.

#46XXXURGENT: Pit Bull Terrier, Dog; Bloomfield, CT

There’s something in her expression that reminds me of Kolchak Puggle, her face just speaks to me.

Here is what the Petfinder page says about her:

Approx 3 years old.  This sweet little girl is another throw away mom.  She has obviously been used for breeding.  She is a tiny thing, almost looks like a puppy!  A sweet little pocket pit mix looking for a family to relieve her of what has been nothing but a stressful life of providing puppies.  She is SO sweet and quite mellow but certainly loves her affection!  Good with dogs she met.  Would love to see her relaxing on a couch with a person, enjoying what life should be about for a dog.

The adoption fee for a CT resident is $50, and $5.00 for non-residents. Which doesn’t make sense to me, but who am I to argue if it saves a dog.

Today is the day I beg you to share this post on your social media outlets.  We may not be able to save them all, but together we can save some.
