Who's Eating The Cat Food?

February 11, 2012 By Jodi

We interrupt your regularly scheduled blog post for this special announcement.

I forgot all about the Mr. Chewy giveaway!!  After putting the comments thru random.org, the winner of the Mr. Chewy $50 gift certificate is…..drum roll please…..Mami2jcn .  Please send me your e-mail address and I will send you all the details!

Weekends are tough in my house, if I don’t have anywhere special to be it’s very easy for me to sit on the couch with my computer in my lap and just….well sit.

Hubby left early to go work on his jeep, so when I got up I fed the dogs and then Bob, made myself a cup of tea and fired up the laptop.

I was intently involved in catching up on some blog reading when a weird sound penetrated my concentration.  It was the distinct sound of a dish tapping against the wall, which meant Bob had his dish against the wall and was working it pretty good.  Then I looked up and saw Bob sitting in front of me.

Damn it Delilah!  Then I saw Delilah curled up on the couch.

When Delilah joined our pack I had hoped that some of Sampson’s good behavior would rub off on her, I certainly didn’t expect some of her bad habits to rub off on him!

He had pushed the gate that keeps the dogs out of the room in on one corner and was lying on the floor eating what was left of poor little Bob’s cat food.

I know I found it hard to believe myself, so I took a picture as proof.

If you look closely you can see how the gate is pushed in on the bottom left.

How is it that bad habits rub off, but good ones don’t?

Book update: It is the same as yesterday.

Sometimes You Just Want Your Mommy

January 29, 2012 By Jodi

We’ve had Sampson since he was eight weeks old, and we used the crate to train him.

Once Sampson was house broken he only used the crate at night.  After he started sleeping in bed with us, he used his crate when he wanted to.

When Delilah joined our pack we added a second crate.   I’m pretty sure that whoever had Delilah before us, also used the crate, because she doesn’t mind it at all.  In fact, if she’s misbehaving all we have to say is, “Do you want to go in your crate?” And she runs right in there.  She will also stay in the crate without having to latch the door.

When we moved we only set one crate up, for Delilah of course.  After a bit of time I noticed Sampson was going back inside the crate, so we set the second crate up, but we are now back to one crate.  It sits in the corner of the living room and Delilah uses it when we need her in it or when she wants it, which isn’t frequent.

Mostly the crate is used by Bob.

Last night after the dogs finished their snacks Sampson started wandering around.  He climbed down off the couch and went into the crate where I heard him scratching around.

The he walked out and scratched at the rug, he laid down but I could tell he just wasn’t comfortable, so I sat down on the floor with my back to the couch and patted the floor in front of me.  He just looked at me with his sad eyes.

So I got up, grabbed a blanket and threw it over my legs.  His eyes lit up and before I had even finished arranging the blanket, he got up and came over and laid next to me.  He put his head on my leg and I stroked his ears and he went to sleep.

Sometimes you just want your Mommy.

Of Dogs and Weekends

January 22, 2012 By Jodi

We had another nice long walk through the snow this morning with our extended pack.

I found out from my walking buddy that the guy who allows hunters on his land, now has chickens.  Yes, another reason why Delilah must not be allowed off leash in that area.

Our walks go something like this, we do a loop then we let the dogs run around in the field for a few minutes, lather, rinse, repeat.

Since it is winter and the leaves are off the trees, it is much easier to wander deeper into the woods, which we did.  We found a spot where the deer had spent the night.

Can you see the impression in the snow?

On one of our trips into the field Delilah and Brady got their zoomies on.  The funny thing was that somehow Delilah started to lose her vest.

You can see the vest is hanging off her butt.

I tried getting her attention by calling her, but she was having so much fun with Brady, that I let her run.  As you can see the vest didn’t seem to hinder her running.

It's almost off now.

I found myself just standing there watching and laughing hysterically because it was so comical.  Eventually she got it off on her own.

Yup, she got it off.

I picked it up and she came over to me and waited as if to say, “Please put my vest back on.”

As I was fixing her vest, Sampson and Brady decided to play with a stick.

My stick, No my stick.

After about an hour and 15 minutes of walking, we decided to head home.  My buddy and I ended up just standing chatting and I was very impressed because the dogs all stayed right with us.

We weren’t even in the door two minutes before Sampson was on the couch.  Delilah joined him shortly after.

They’re still there now.  Of course, they changed positions once or twice.

I’m sorry the weekend is over already, I can hear Monday calling my name.

How was your weekend?  Were you busy or relaxed? Or were you like us, a little bit of both?

Book Update: My book has 4,734 words.
