You Make Me Smile – July 14, 2013

July 14, 2013 By Jodi

One of the big reasons I started this blog was for all the crazy, funny things my dogs do that bring a smile to my face or a laugh to my lips.

Sometimes it’s not easy to write a full blog post about it and sometimes I forget to share.

Some posts will be You Make Me Laugh and others will be You Make Me Smile, but they will all be the silly, sweet, funny things Sampson and Delilah do that help make crazy days just a little bit easier.

Feel free to share what your pet does to make you laugh/smile in the comments.

Do your dogs eat treats lying down? Any thoughts on how to get a lazy dog to sit up?

Follow-Up Friday – July 12, 2013

July 12, 2013 By Jodi

I hope you all had a safe and happy 4th of July.

Thank you for joining me for Follow-Up Friday, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

https://www.heartlikeadog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/follow-up-friday.jpg

I’m super sorry, but I forgot to give you today’s co-hostess in yesterday’s post. I’m so excited to have my friend Donna from Donna and the Dogs.  She’s currently fur mom to Miss Meadow, Miss Leah and Master Toby, (a dog who looks amazingly like Sampson) and two cats.

Donna is an up and coming writer who I look up to and admire.  She’s an amazing writer and I cannot wait to see her work in print, which I’m hoping will be very soon.

Please welcome my friend Donna.

You Make Me Laugh

Kim said, “Jodi, your girl Delilah makes me laugh too–What a rare treasure she is!!”

She is that Kim, I’m grateful every day for her.

JoAnn asked, “Wiggle wiggle wiggle…that makes me laugh and smile too. does she grunt when she does it?”

Nope, she just wiggles.

We’ve all got some awesome dogs that know how to get our attention, don’t we?

Seven Ways to Pissed Off

This one from MR. Taleteller was catchy, “Carrie needs to take a pic of the signs at our park. It shows a dog pooping. Hello! that’s more disturbing then stepping in poop itself. Poop pollutes, poop pollutes! It also makes good compost.”

A dog pooping?   WTF is wrong with people?  Can’t you make a point without being vulgar?  If people were having sex in the park would you have a picture of that?

Sherri asked, “Also – do you know who the James family is? What’s their vendetta against dogs? They have pet squirrels or something?”

I have no clue, but I googled their name and there are two of them in the immediate area, I might just call the town and ask. 🙂

SlimDoggy asked, “Why don’t they have to clean up after their horses?”

Good question Slim.  There are also wild animals which I’d bet put the public at far more health risks than dogs.

Sugar asked, “BTW how do you spit nails?”

BOL Sugar, it’s just a human expression for being very angry.

2 Brown Dawgs asked, “I wonder how much all of that cost?”

Good question, before they added the James family sign I was about to call the town and ask them how much that cost the taxpayers.

BTW why doesn’t the training farm want you to pick up the dog’s poop?

Molly the Wally said, “It ain’t the dogs here it the French people who think it is OK to let their kids do their stuff in the park when there are several toilets.”

Are you saying that people poop in your park?

Maggie said,”Okay, so… the number of phrases you used to say “poop” really has me laughing!”

I love potty humor, I was giggling typing that.  I think I might have to send out the poopie list. 😉

Dee said, “How would you all like living next door to a police officer (that lets his dog run loose despite the county-wide-leash law) whose dog thinks YOUR little 6-acre space in this world is HER bathroom?”

Um no, a really big pet peeve of mine is police officers who feel they are above the law.

For me there were just too many signs and one poop station in the beginning of the park is just not enough.  Plus I’d really like them to address the other issues of kids, litter, broken glass and fire.

And really, get your ass out into the park and ticket the people who aren’t picking up after their dogs and for Pete sake, know what is going on before you put up seven signs!

LBD

I love this photo.

Jen had a great caption, “Really, my only other “cigar caption” would be Will Smith’s “Welcome to Earth” from Independence Day.”

That was a good one too Jen, I had one other one I was thinking, but I figured I was dating myself.

Edith, get me a beer!

Edith, get me a beer!

Sampson and Delilah

Oh yes, the dog in the photo looked eerily like Delilah.  Thankfully she hasn’t done this yet, but I am waiting. LOL

Houndstooth said, “You know what I say, “Well behaved dogs don’t make for good blogs!””

Exactly, which is why I rarely write about Sampson!

Thank you all for your condolences about my classmate, I think a lot of my sadness is the fact that I didn’t get to know her as well as I would have liked.

Life is short, don’t live with regrets.

Thanks to my pal Donna, this is the Follow-Up Friday Blog hop hosted by Donna and the Dogs and Heart Like a Dog.

Sampson and Delilah

July 11, 2013 By Jodi

Sampson

When you have a dog like Sampson, you want to share him with the world.  Unfortunately there’s not a lot to write about dogs like Sampson on a normal day.  Some days though, they do something so wonderful that you just have to share.

I found out on Tuesday that one of the women I graduated with had passed away.  It certainly wasn’t the first classmate we’d lost.  But it hit me particularly hard.

Not because we were close friends in school, in fact we ran in totally different circles.  Donna was a cheerleader and what I considered to be one of the popular girls.  I was shy and hung with a lot of younger kids.

But when I went to our last high school reunion (my first in 24 years)  Donna was the only one from that crowd who greeted and embraced me.

We e-mailed a couple of times after that and then we became friends on facebook.

Donna was a great supporter of this blog, and gave me lots of encouragement.  She got sick a while ago and I knew it was cancer of some sort but I didn’t know what kind.  I left messages on her facebook page, sent a card here and there and got busy with life.

I found out from her obituary that she’d been living with recurrent brain cancer for twenty years.

When I went home on Tuesday I laid on the floor with Sampson and I cried, mostly silent tears but every now and again an audible sob would escape my lips and when that happened my sweet, sweet boy would lift his head and enthusiastically lick my face.

I’d know what to say if Donna were a dog, but Donna lived life fast and free.  Instead I will say, “Donna, your light will continue to shine in those you love and who loved you in return.  Be at peace.”

Delilah

Tuesday night my friend Arianne, who is also my trainer posted this photo on my facebook page.

Her caption said, "Why is it that I can picture Delilah standing on your counters? ;)"

Her caption said, “Why is it that I can picture Delilah standing on your counters? ;)”

To which I responded, “well one, this dog looks like Delilah and two, it’s totally something she would do!!”

It also may be because you've seen her stick her head in a traffic cone.

It also may be because you’ve seen her stick her head in a traffic cone.

You've also seen her climb through a folding camp chair looking for food.

Siriusly, the only reason Delilah hasn’t climbed on my counters is that she hasn’t thought of it.

Yet.

When Delilah first joined us we lived in a different house.  That house was very small but it had a beautiful bay window in the living room.  I always wanted to add some pillows to the window and make a seat for reading but I never did.  Mostly the bay window ended up collecting stuff.

Our couch was positioned in such a way that the bay window was on the left and I would sit there in the afternoon and could see Hubby pull into the yard.

One day in her excitement of Daddy coming home Delilah ran into the living room and jumped into the window, where she sat.

Like a cat.

Yes Arianne, I could totally see Delilah on my kitchen counter.
