About Those Wooly Bears

October 25, 2013 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

Follow-Up Friday

About those wooly bears:

Sue said, “When the brown bands on woolly worms are narrow, it means a harsh winter. The wider the brown band, the milder the winter will be.”

I knew it was something like that!

Frankie and Ernie had a great post with detailed information about what the stripes on the wooly bears mean.

You Make Me Smile – I’ll Always Want a Lab

Houndstooth asked, “Delilah is one dog I would love to meet in person! Can you bring her to Vegas for me?”

I know that anything goes in Vegas, but honestly I’m not sure even sin city is ready for this dog!

Blueberry’s Human said, “Nose prints on my clothes though – or nose juice running down my neck in the morning from B’s head being under my chin – that makes me smile every time. The first time it happened I thought I was sweating and then realized, ‘Nope, that’s from her nose!’.”

Now that made me laugh!  Neither of my dogs have ever dripped ‘nose juice’ down my neck.

And here is the punk picture as promised.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA I love this photo, it looks to me like she’s smiling!

I Spy With My Little Eye

So here is the original photo.

And here are the comments:

Jackie said, “Yeah – how do we get the average non-picker-upper to pick up? Those are probably the same “the rules don’t apply to ME” people I see all the time doing stuff like texting while they drive. How do we get them to stop doing ALL the bad things they do?”

I wish i knew.

Oz said, “I snoop, and I snoop but I cannot locate the poop (in the photo)!”

I love this Oz!  Even when it’s not limerick month, you are still a rhyming kind of dog!

Donna said, “Ugh. I can understand losing it in the leaves, that happens in my own yard, especially with Miss Medi the walk-while-she-poos dog, but in the middle of the path??”

Delilah does that too.  In fact, sometimes I call her “Delilah shit-walker.”  Shhh, don’t tell her.

Sugar asked, “Yikes on Delilah … did it smelled?”

I didn’t smell it, but I think it was a couple of days old and had lost it’s potency.

I’m pretty sure that some of you spotted the poop, only you know for sure.  Let me know if you did.

Did you spot it?
Here it is.

She Just Needed a Chance

Callie, Shadow and Ducky’s Mom asked, “What I can’t figure out is why the adoption fee at your pound is 10 times higher. For residents than it is for non-residents. Shouldn’t it be at the very least only a few dollars higher; and more logically a few dollars lower??”

You know, I really wanted to call the pound and ask them, but then I knew I’d ask about her and I was afraid of the answer.  I’ll try and call this week.

Jessica asked, “Is there any way you could get a group together to advocate for longer hold times?”

We do have some really great animal advocates in this state.  I’ll see what I can find out.

My other thought is, their website says, “Can be euthanized” at the 10th day, and I’m wondering if that is dependent upon how many animals they are housing.

2 Brown Dawgs said, “I don’t understand the thinking of removing a dog from any given situation only to euthanize it. Or maybe euthanizing this dog was what they had in mind when it was removed? That to me is the question.”

Another really good question.  My thought is euthanizing the animal is more compassionate than letting it die slowly and suffering.

Fetch Mama

Gizmo said, “Delilah you’re a great coach but like your mom there are some pounds on Momz that won’t come off no matter how hard I work her…She tells me it’s cause she’s older than dirt and her metabolism is broken…Now I don’t know what that means, but I think she’s just lazy.”

Delilah here:  I wonder if that’s not the case with my Mama too, she seems to always have an excuse for not doing something.

And Mama?  I read that and that’s just mean.

Which Way Did He Go?

Chipmunks are cute, but they can be very destructive.  Sadly we need to find a way to remove them.

And on another sad note, Bennie the Frenchie, the little hero of our calendar fundraiser, lost his fight yesterday.   Our hearts and prayers are with his Mama and Lily.

That’s a wrap for this week’s Follow-Up Friday.  If you are interested in co-hosting, please let me know either in the comments, on facebook or drop me an e-mail.

Thank you LInda for joining me.

Follow-Up Friday

Dawn said, “Fantastic follow up! I barely have enough time to read blogs, let alone comments.”

I’m with you there my friend.  It’s so hard trying to write, read and comment.  Sometimes I just can’t comment, but I hate not reading, you miss too many things!

You Make Me Smile – Star Wars Style

Yoda 2

Roxy asked, “LOL…How does he do that?”

I wish I knew.  His ears are frequently in strange positions.

Jackie asked, “Do you suppose they know their ears are bent all crazy but just don’t care?”

I’m not sure of that either!  I know my mom will always say, “fix your ear.”  Honestly I think it bothers her more than it bothers him. LOL

Oh Lord, My Water Broke

One Person’s View asked, “How did she get it out of the SINK?”

She stood on her hind legs, stuck her face in the sink and pulled it out.  I am constantly catching her with her face in the sink!  Sometimes she’s just lapping up dirty dishwater.

Basil asked, “Is it wrong that my only thought is well done for getting so far?!”

Hell no!  I was proud of her for that too!!  Once she actually pulled a GLASS bowl out of the sink and carried it into the living room.  I swear I don’t know how she does it!

Blueberry’s Human said, “I am totally impressed! I’m telling you – you need to have some cameras around there to watch how she does these things!”

I think you’re right.  People wouldn’t be watching the Pandas, they’d be watching Delilah!

Don’t Be a Dick

2 Brown Dawgs asked, “Did you think I would get my panties in a wad?…lol.”

No. You and I are cool.  You are very responsible with your dogs.

Jessica said, “I just wish people were more responsible with their pets. About everything, not just spay/neuter. Violating leash laws, not scooping, not training. All symptoms of the same problem.”

I agree.  I just wish they took the time to educate themselves, that would go a long way.

Misty said, “sorry for the rant.”

Never apologize for being passionate about something on this blog. 🙂

Jump Mama

Jackie said, ““How high, Delilah?” Hahahahaha. I can’t really see your mama saying that Delilah. But if you insist that that’s what you heard, then I’ll believe you.”

She made that shit up.  I would never say that.

This ‘N That Thursday

Animal Couriers said, “Good luck in shutting down that negligent vet. How on earth did they allow that?”

Oh I wish I knew!  Sometimes I really wonder what the heck goes on in some people’s minds.

Emma asked, “So what do the stripes on those furry little guys mean?”

You know, I’m not sure Emma, but I’m going to ask the person who told me about it.  I’ll get back to you!

That is a wrap for Follow-Up Friday.  Thank you to 2 Brown Dawgs for co-hosting this week.  Remember, if you’re interested in co-hosting Follow-Up Friday next week, let me know in the comments.

Have a great weekend!

This ‘N That Thursday

October 17, 2013 By Jodi

Today we join 2 Brown Dawgs and Ruckus the Eskie for This ‘N That Thursday.  It’s a day designed for a pinch of this and a dash of that.  Many thanks to our hosts!

Protecting your dogs.

About three months ago Hubby and I added padlocks to both the gates leading into our yard.  While my bigger concern was one of the gates accidentally being left open, I realized after reading a post on Fidose Reality there are other reasons to padlock your gates.  If you get the chance pop over and read Eight Ways To Get Your Dog Stolen.   Lots of great info in there.

Fall Foliage

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA The other night when I was walking the dogs we had a good strong wind.  Honestly the leaves were falling like snow. Yes those round spots in the photo are actually leaves.

I love to take photos of the foliage, but in some of the more beautiful spots it’s rather difficult to get a photo without a power line or telephone pole in the way.  I knew my time was limited though, so I grabbed my camera and headed out to my favorite reservoir.

PicMonkey Fall Collage I love the reflections of the trees on the water.  The lower right hand photo is actually one of the trees in our field.  The leaves almost look frosted.

And because I have a nifty new camera which takes panorama photos, I couldn’t resist trying it out.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA I love the look so much, I decided to shoot one of our field too.

They say you can tell how hard the winter is going to be by the stripes on the wooly bears.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA I’m not sure about squashed wooly bears.  Too bad they didn’t tell this guy to stay out of the road.  I didn’t see him and ran him over.

Ferndale, Washington

This is totally worthy of a WTF post.  A Vet in Ferndale was allowed to keep his license despite admitting to most charges of botching surgeries, using unnecessary force on animals and taking pain killers that were designed for his patients.

I admit, I skimmed through the article because I didn’t want to get too hot.  The thing that really frosted my ass was the Board of Governors allowed him to keep his license.  That is definitely WTF!

My thoughts?  The Board of Governors has no balls.  But we do.  Let’s get this son of a bitch’s name out and shut the mutherfucker down.  Share the story on your social media outlets warning people of this man and what he is capable of.

Let’s get the word out and make sure this guy doesn’t get the opportunity to hurt someone else’s pet.

You can read the entire article here.

Follow-Up Friday

My co-hostess this week is Linda from 2 Brown Dawgs.  Check back tomorrow when I answer some comments and wrap up our week.

Thanks again to 2 Brown Dawgs and Ruckus the Eskie!
