Co-Hosted Follow-Up Friday – June 7, 2013

June 7, 2013 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Co-hosted Follow-Up Friday.

https://www.heartlikeadog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/follow-up-friday.jpg As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, my co-hostesses this week are Jackie and Rita from Pooch Smooches.

If you haven’t met Jackie and Rita, well folks you are in for a treat.  Jackie published her first novel “What the dog ate” last year, she’s happily married living the life out in California, with her sweet little Rita, a rescue that was found on the beach.  She likes reading, writing, margaritas and dogs (I think we might be long lost sisters.)

Thank you Jackie and Rita for joining us in the Follow-Up Friday blog hop, we’re quite excited to have you join us.

This is sad Rita, if you’re wondering why Rita’s sad well you’ll have to read Jackie’s brilliant post from yesterday. (I’m sorry but shock wave kept crashing so I can’t link to the post.)

You Make Me Laugh

Are you kidding me?  I just looked at this post and I have a HUGE spelling error!  What an embarrassment.

Poetry in Motion

Most of you don’t have a problem with loose dogs, but those that have encountered them seem to handle it fairly well.

Donna said, “I don’t exactly live in the area where I can let my dogs off leash, and Toby’s been attacked once and nipped another time, and Leah was attacked once, so I now carry citronella spray and have used it once as a loose dog started following too close for comfort. Happy to say, it did work – I sprayed him and he turned and took off.

I don’t love the idea of spraying a dog, but my dogs come first and citronella is benign. It’s not like I’m macing them!”

Sampson and Delilah have both been attacked by the Bull Dogs across the street (which is why I think they didn’t like my daughter’s Bull Dog at Christmas.)  I don’t relish the idea of spraying a dog with anything either, but I’m also not sure how willing I am to take on an aggressive dog.  If it comes down to my dog or theirs, well I’m peppering their dog and anything else I need to do to protect my dogs.  We do have leash laws, unenforced, but we do have laws.

Willy or Won’t He

Well I think this is good news, when I went to check on Willy last night, he was no longer available on Petfinder.

This comment from Jessica made me laugh,  “I’m calling my mom right now to remind her that she gets custody of Silas.”  I’m glad you have a plan in place for him.  We all should. I think we all agree it’s just horrible for a Senior dog to be dumped at a shelter.

I’m Detoxing

Frankie and Ernie said, “Now about the cleaning thingys around the house… our mom only uses three thingys plus WATER… White Vinegar MicroFiber Cloths and Mops and now and then a LITTLE Murphy’s Oil Soap…

Gizmo said, “Vinegar…plain white vinegar…I use it for cleaning almost everything these days.

Okay, so how do you use the vinegar?  Do you put it in a spray bottle and what is your dilution percent?

Jackie said, “Anyway, I’ve been trying to switch to using products that have less chemicals. I haven’t used dryer sheets for years (evil little things) and stopped using anything beyond warm water and maybe some vinegar for the floors long ago. I also use Method brand laundry and hand soaps, and we have some lovely local olive oil soap that we use in the shower and for the dog.”

I too use Method laundry soap, but what do you use in your dryer?  How do you keep your clothes from getting full of static.

Pamela said, “As well as baking soda, washing soda, and other old fashioned items.”  What is washing soda and what kind of old fashioned items?

Sugar asked, “We are interested in sanitizer for toothbrush. Is there an after taste? Is it safe for dog?”  I think it is safe for dogs, the ingredients are alcohol and oil blend.  You spray it on your toothbrush and wait for it to dry before using it.  I haven’t noticed any taste on my toothbrush at all.

Emma, 2 Brown Dawgs and Anonymous said they aren’t getting their e-mail subscriptions.   Well I tried to do a backup and in order to do it, I disabled all my plugins.  I’ve since gone in and reactivated them.  The subscription button is back in the side bar, and you said you got your e-mail yesterday so hopefully it’s straightened out.

This ‘N That Thursday

Jan is having a problem with Feedly, “Whenever I go there it says that I have “no unread articles” but it lies. Then it gives me a list of what I am supposed to have already read and they are ones I’ve never seen. What am I doing wrong? Anyone?”  Can any of you gurus help her?

All Things Collie said, “Hi there! So tomorrow we are joining your blog hop.”  Yay!  We love having new people join the hop.  Welcome, welcome!!

Many of you asked about our Free Style performance (if you can stretch your imagination to call it that.)  While Hubby won’t be with us, my instructor has graciously offered to video tape it for us, so hopefully if all goes well next week we will have a little video to share.

That’s it from us, thanks for joining the Follow-Up Friday blog hop hosted by Pooch Smooches and Heart Like a Dog.

You Make Me Laugh – June 2, 2013

June 2, 2013 By Jodi

One of the big reasons I started this blog was for all the crazy, funny things my dogs do that bring a smile to my face or a laugh to my lips.

Sometimes it’s not easy to write a full blog post about it and sometimes I forget to share.

Some posts will be You Make Me Laugh and others will be You Make Me Smile, but they will all be the silly, sweet, funny things Sampson and Delilah do that help make crazy days just a little bit easier.

Feel free to share what your pet does to make you laugh/smile in the comments.

Drinking Coffee

The pig came that way, I swear. I did NOT chew off its ears.

Thwp, thwp, thwp.

The funny thing is, she doesn’t drink Hubby’s coffee.  I think it’s because mine has cream in it and he drinks his black.

Silly girl.

A Day Late

June 1, 2013 By Jodi

Welcome to co-hosted Follow-Up Friday, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

https://www.heartlikeadog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/follow-up-friday.jpg

Thanks so very much to Misty Shores Chesapeakes, my co-hostess this week.  She very graciously handled the entire blog hop yesterday so we could make the big announcement about K9 Kamp hosted by Koly and Kelly.

This ‘N That Thursday – May 23, 2013

This goes way back but I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind comments and yes, I intend to follow my bliss wherever it may lead me.

You Make Me Laugh

Sampson-1

I think it’s pretty clear, our pets are awesome and bring us joy and laughter all the time.

Leslie said, ““Bella, you make me laugh every. single. day. It’s one of her greatest gifts to me.”  What a beautiful statement.

H and Flo said, “I always smile when George uses my use of the bathroom as his cue to use the litter tray.”  Yes, I imagine that would make me smile too.

Sampson Loves Sara

Delilah is very good about getting her nails done (she’s such a princess) she will actually hand me her paw and let me clip them.  Sampson is the tough one though, despite the fact that he has light-colored nails.  He does tremble a bit when I take out the clippers, so it’s just easier to take him to see Sara.

Misty asked, “Have you ever tried using a grinder on them?”  You know Hubby did a while ago and Sampson didn’t care for the vibration, but it might be worth trying again.

Marrow Bones from Jones All Natural Chews

Thankfully the dogs passed the bones with no major incidents.

Julie said, “That is exactly why I always leave typed, step-by-step notes, but how can you be sure that they will follow them?”   You know Julie, I always used to do that, write everything out so that a monkey could come in and feed my dogs.  Granted he’d have to be a monkey that could read, and I have yet to find one of those.  For some reason I did NOT do that this time.  That will be the last time that I don’t do it.

Guaranteed.

All Things Collie said, “Wow, that’s a lot of chicken! Our cottage is rather small, or I would offer to dog sit!

But if you need a recommendation for a really great kennel, let me know. My daughter works for a kennel, the same kennel I worked at while in high school and college. It’s very clean, great staff, and the owners live on the property.”

Thank you, that is so sweet of you and I really appreciate that.  My house is quite large would you like to come here?  😉

Actually I was speaking with my daughter today and she offered to come over, I think if I fly (I hate flying) I could leave first thing Friday morning and come back Saturday and would really only need someone to feed them dinner on Friday and breakfast on Saturday.  I’ll keep you posted.

Mrs. Taleteller said, “I am trying to imagine you coming home and your head NOT exploding!”  LOL that’s pretty much what happened.

A Dog Walker’s Chinese Star

Sue asked, “What kind of wild animals are you talking about, anyway?”  Well we know for sure there are Fisher’s (aka fisher cats) in the woods and we’ve been told there are coyotes as well. Neither one of which I want to mess with.

Bert said, “Oh I definitely would go for a patent, I would change the design on the bag a little and I would add a fling cord for harder impact” I like the way you think Bert. Let’s talk.

Emma said, “Mom worries about getting the poo on herself sometimes but we never thought of flinging the bags.”  Yeah, getting it on yourself is disgusting, but it’s my dog.  I wouldn’t want someone else’s dog’s poop on me.  That just grosses me out.

All Things Collie said, “We have WADS, or a poopisle or a fecal grenade ready to aim at any dangers, and we never even knew it!”  Fecal grenades.  I love it!!

Jen said, “I’ve actually thought about that, if necessary, I’d throw a poop bag at a charging dog/person of ill intent. With or without accompanying ninja sounds. For the threat display, you understand.” Yes I do understand, but knowing me I’d probably be screaming, “Eat shit and die mother f**ker!”

Kim said, “By the way, that reminds me of when I used to walk the dogs when we lived in a subdivision–I would put the bag down by a tree in the common area as I walked and pick them up on my way back. We used to pass the house of a really, really obnoxious schnauzer that our dogs didn’t like and he would bark at us from his front door that was always open. One day after I set a bag down he came over and picked it up and went inside with it.”

OMG that made me laugh.  I set the bags down by trees too!  Delilah has a habit of pooping within a few minutes of starting our walk and there I am left to carry it the whole way.  But I’ve never had a dog carry a baggie off.

Pam said, “The moment it opened with, “It was a four bag walk…” I knew I was in for hilarity.” Thank you.  I was  actually singing that first line to “It was a hard day’s night.”

This ‘N That Thursday

I answered the comments on this post directly.  Good thing too because I’m way over my word count!

Join us next week for Follow-Up Friday when my co-host will be?  Who?  Any takers?

Thanks again to Misty Shores, you rock!!
