My Dog Ate What? – WTF Wednesday

October 1, 2014 By Jodi

You've heard this one right?

This time it’s me.

A couple of weeks ago I took the owners of a  sock eating Great Dane to task. In my post I asked, “Do these people pay attention to their dog at all?”

Turns out, my dog ate something I wasn’t aware of.

Last week I’m walking the dogs when Sampson needs to do his pooping business.  As I’m standing there watching (really, you have to pay attention people) I see a poop come out and it had lots of grass in it, and something blue.

Yeah, BLUE!  WTF!! I took a quick look as I picked it up and at first glance it looked like a gum packet.  Odd, but not impossible, but I’m standing on the side of the road, with two crazy dogs so I couldn’t examine it more closely.  I closed the bag and went on my way.

Curiosity is a funny thing.  I was consumed by that poop the whole way home, sort of like a kid in the candy store with a dollar in my pocket.  In fact that poop bag practically spoke to me the entire way home.  Open me, open me, you know you want to.  See what treasures I contain.  (I admit, treasures might not be the best word to use in this particular instance.)  The point is,  I was just itching to open the bag to see what Sampson could possibly have eaten.

As soon as I got into the yard I opened the bag.

No I did not take a photo and you are welcome.

There was something blue alright but it turns out it wasn’t a gum packet.  It was one of those little white and blue packets that you find in freeze-dried treats.  These little packets are generally made of one of three things; iron oxide, silicon or charcoal.  The only one that presents any danger to your pet is the iron.  But seeing as I didn’t know this yet, I left the bag on top of the garbage bin, just in case the vet needed to see it And then I placed a call to my vet.

I said, “You guys must wonder if I watch my frickin’ dogs at all!”

The vet tech laughed and said, “We don’t think that at all!”  Then I heard her whisper to the other tech, “It’s Jodi Stone, guess what her dog ate this time?”

The other tech said, “Wait a minute let me look up her history.” And yet another one said, “I’ve got $5 it’s Delilah and she ate chocolate.”

That conversation really didn’t happen, at least not when I could hear it.

Long story short, since Sampson had passed the packet and was acting fine, there was nothing to be concerned about.

When Hubby got home I told him what I’d found.   Of course he wanted to see for himself.  (It’s human nature I tell ya!) Hubby and I both had WTF expressions on our faces because Sampson IS NOT the dog that eats stuff.  Literally I can set a plate of food on the floor in front of him and tell him to leave it and walk away and he won’t touch it.

We finally figured out it was from the package of Freeze-dried tripe that we use for their meals.  Unbeknownst to us, it must have fallen out and because it smelled like Tripe, well Sampson ate it.

I guess Sampson figures if Delilah can eat Balsamic Vinegar spiders, he can eat tripe flavored silicone packets.

Really? You HAD to go there? WTF is wrong with you Mama?

Do I Have Dirt in my Ear? – Thursday’s Barks and Bytes

September 25, 2014 By Jodi

Do I have dirt in my ear?

So like you know how dogs like to kick stuff over their ‘business’ once they’ve done it?

I thought it was only after they had pooped, but sometimes my dogs do it after they pee.

It's not polite to leave your business uncovered.

It’s not polite to leave your business uncovered.

Sampson will pee and then kick his legs, Delilah however is one of those dogs that walk away, sometimes like 15 feet away before she kicks.  Yes, she is one of those dogs.

Considering all the conflicts we’ve had on our evening walks, I decided to change things up and whenever possible go home on my lunch and walk the dogs.  I started this Tuesday afternoon.  I took the dogs up to the field. Delilah decided to do her pooping business and walk away.  As I bent over to pick it up she kicked.  Now she’s done this to me before, but usually it just lands on my pants or in my shoes.  Sometimes Sampson is in the way and has to make a quick maneuver to avoid it.

Well this time, dirt and grass went flying and something landed in my ear.  It was dirt.

You know how you’re NOT supposed to stick your finger in your ear?  And you know that your ear while not wet, it’s kind of got that waxy thing going on?  Right.

Well now I have dirt in my ear and I’m afraid to put my finger there because I’m afraid I’ll push it in further, but what if there’s a bug in it?  I know, right.

Ever so carefully I worked at it and I did get it out, but then I kept having that feeling that something was in my ear. 🙁

Dog Collars

I’m super excited.  We won a reflective collar from a giveaway on Emma’s blog.  Did I mention it’s a collar that has the dog’s information right on the collar, no tag needed?  One would think this would be an easy choice, no?  Well picking out the color and the font is not the issue, here’s what I want your thoughts on.

Whose name should I put on the collar?  Delilah’s or mine.  You’d think that would be an easy decision?  I thought so too, until I recently read a discussion on a lab rescue page.  Considering all the dog stealing that has been going on recently, do you think it’s wise to put Delilah’s name on the collar?  I mean, I’m pretty sure anyone that picked up Delilah would be more than willing to return her, once they had her in their home for an hour or so, but is it in her best interest to have her name emblazoned for all to see?  I’m afraid some nefarious person could perhaps coax her away?  I’m torn and that is holding me up from ordering the collar.

Last by not least a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my mom.  Love you!!

Happy Birthday Grandma, don't do something I wouldn't do!

Follow-Up Friday – September 19, 2014

September 19, 2014 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the post where I highlight reader’s comments, answer questions and generally just wrap up my week.

You Make Me Smile – September 14, 2014

Nom, nom.

Nom, nom.

2 Brown Dawgs said, “Love the shiny spit on the kong…lol.”

LOL You can have it.  This dog has a very, very wet mouth!!  Even giving her a treat, you need a towel.

Chelsea Price said, “I ADORE this series. It’s so refreshing to read such positive and upbeat posts each week.”

Thank you, I’m so glad.  My dogs bring me so much joy and I just want to share that with you all.

Curiosity…it’s Not Just For Cats

Lauranne said, “I was half waiting for the spray in the face photo!”

OMD could you imagine?  She would have freaked out!  I had watched the sprinkler as we approached and knew there was not a chance of that, unless she went around it, then all bets were off!

Two French Bulldogs said, “I bit that thing this morning. Not smart.”

OH NO!  I hope you weren’t too traumatized.

The Lab-ra-language

Emma said, “We sit at the back door when we want to go play in the yard, but when we want to come back in, we just ring our dog doorbell and Mom comes running. Watching Mom come running is the best because she knows if she makes us wait, I will lay on that bell non stop until she comes!”

Emma, you always make me smile.  You and your sisters are the main reason I do not have a doggie doorbell. LOL

DZ Dog says, “Dante likes to employ a very loud deep sigh….it means, “dang you guys are boring for making me wait.”

Ah, the sigh.  Yes, Delilah does that occasionally too, and sometimes she uses a little “haaaarumpff,” it’s absolutely hysterical.

It’s Dog or Nothing said, “It’s really amazing how we’re able to communicate so effectively with our dogs. They really do have a way of telling us what they need/want. Mauja likes to whack me with her paw if I’m not paying enough attention to her.”

LOL they do have a way of communicating, don’t they?

Sampson and the Two Dicks

You guys, how can you meet two men named Dick and not want to write a post about that?

Some dogs just have it. What can I say?

Some dogs just have it. What can I say?

Emma said, “To revisit an old topic of yours…why you get so much spam… :) You know with that title the world wants to read whether we know the true meaning or not.”

Yes, that would certainly explain the porn spam.  True story…when I first started blogging and knew nothing about plugins, I published a post that had the word ‘bush’ in it.  You wouldn’t believe the porn spam I got on that post.  It got to a point where I actually unpublished the post.  Thankfully now I have that amazing spam filter and I don’t see any spam.  At all.

Molly the Wally said, “LOL we were in the gutter for a moment with that title.”

LOL well I admit the title was designed for that purpose. 😉

SlimDoggy said, “Emma is right…you attract spam with those titles…but then again, you attract me, so what does that say about me??? ”

LOL it says a lot to me. 😉  Can’t wait to hang out with you!

Frankie and Ernie said, “THAT was an interesting walk…. It reminds me of the old … I’m Darrel and this is my Brother Darrel.”

That was exactly what I was thinking!!

Jan asked, “I am sure your neighbors–including the dicks–are grateful to have such a great politician such as Sampson to keep order in your neighborhood. Has he considered running for national office?”

He has not, he just can’t find a good handler. 😉

Two French Bulldogs said, “I stand around and wait for people to approach me. Mom said her heart breaks at my look when some buddy walks by and ignores me.”

I totally get that.  It breaks my heart too when someone will not acknowledge him.  But he just tries again the next time, he’s good like that.

Update on Leroy

The Go Fund Me page is up.  I want to thank all of you who have contributed to Leroy’s Fund and have shared his story.  I know having funds to help defer the costs of his care is a great relief to Jen and her family.    Please know, if you shared Leroy’s story, you have helped.  If you donated, no matter how much you have helped.

Leroy is still retaining fluid and is scheduled for a scope today, hopefully that will give them the answers they need to help Leroy recover.

Just a reminder if you’d like to share his Go Fund Me page, you can find it HERE.  And if you want to stop by and let Jen know you’re thinking of her, her Facebook page is HERE.

The thing I love best about this blogging community is the community.  You guys are the absolute best and that always shines through, especially when one of our own needs you.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
