What Keeps You Awake At Night?

April 19, 2012 By Jodi

I’ve been having trouble sleeping.  Not just lately either.  In my adult life, I’ve struggled with sleep for about the last 10 years.  Some nights are better than others, where I do sleep but wake frequently, whether it be to use the bathroom or to just turn over.  Sometimes I go right back to sleep and other times it takes a while.

Then there are those nights when I can’t seem to fall asleep.  My mind is racing with all kinds of important and unimportant thoughts.

I’ve been working on it.  I am currently seeing a Dr. that leans towards the Holistic side, which is exactly what I am looking for.  I try to stay with the natural remedies, but when I go two, three, four nights with little to no sleep, I always have my trusty Xanax. 🙂

I think part of it is noise.  It used to be that I could not sleep without a white noise fan.  A troublesome issue if you are traveling, as this means you must always bring your fan with you.

We started using the noisemaker when our daughters got into their late teens.  Many nights they would be coming home much later than we went to bed, or they were up late watching TV in the living which was just below our bedroom. The white noise machine helped cut down on the noise, enabling us a better sleep.

When we had the freak snowstorm last October and lost power for a week, we had no white noise.  We adjusted to life without it and haven’t been using it since.

I didn’t sleep well Sunday, which wasn’t surprising, since I don’t usually sleep well on Sunday nights.  I think Monday morning and the work week weigh heavily on my mind on Sunday nights.

This past Monday it was incredibly hot and became necessary to turn the air conditioner on in the bedroom.  Monday night I didn’t sleep very well.  (I think it was the noise from the air conditioner and me not being use to it.)

Tuesday it was cool enough to sleep with the windows open, but we used the fan to cut down on the outside noise.  This was more or less to keep a crazy chocolate lab from barking in the middle of the night.  (It didn’t.)

Tuesday night I woke up a LOT.  Every time I woke up there was someone else that woke up too.  Someone who had their body pressed up against mine, who lifted their head, or shifted themselves to be closer to the Mama, encouraging physical contact.

Please pet me Mama, he seemed to say.  And pet him I did.  Over and over.  Ear rubbies, head rubbies, belly rubbies; all night long I pet Sampson.

Hubby said when he got up to shower Wednesday morning he thought Sampson was going to lay on top of me, he was that close.

Mornings Delilah gets up and heads out to the kitchen with Hubby, because she knows when he has finished packing his lunch, he will give her a couple of carrots or biscuits.

Sometimes Sampson goes, sometimes he stays in bed with Mama for morning rubbies.   Surprisingly enough, he stayed with me Wednesday morning, despite all the attention I had showered upon him during the night, he still wanted more. 🙂

Last night Hubby said he couldn’t sleep because Sampson was running against his back.  He says Sampson must have run for miles in his sleep, all the while his feet against Hubby’s back.

I slept like I was getting paid to do it.  (I had popped a Xanax.)

Do your pets ever keep you up because they want attention?  What do you do when you cannot sleep?

Contact Me

April 18, 2012 By Jodi

In this great technological age in which we live, there are so many different ways to network yourself.

We Facebook, Tweet, Pinterest, Link in, Triberr , GooglePlus, YouTube and whatever the next big thing is.

With the focus on learning what the latest and greatest is, we sometimes overlook the easiest and simplest things.

Do you list your e-mail address on your blog?   I know when I want to contact someone the easiest thing for me is to drop a quick e-mail.

I ask you this because I have been having trouble commenting on a few different blogs, (mostly WordPress accounts.)  When it first started happening I assumed it was a problem that WordPress was having and that they were aware of it and were working on a fix.  Well you know what they say about assuming.

In some instances I’ve been able to contact the author and straighten the issue out.  (Seems some comments are going into spam.)  There is nothing more frustrating than taking the time to write a comment and hit publish and see nothing. 🙁

Depending upon what your goals are for your blog you may want to make a contact page.  Some people also call this the “work with me” page.  Either way it lays out what your blog is available for. Or what your willing to do for a buck. 😉

My contact  page says,

I love hearing from you.

Please feel free to contact me at auntiejodi@hotmail.com

With comments and suggestions

For product reviews

To hire this writer for freelance jobs

It can be as simple or as detailed as you like, but it’s something I feel is very important.

Do you have contact information on your page?  Have you had anyone contact you other than leaving you a comment.  Have you ever found a reader’s comment in your spam folder?  How frequently do you check your spam folder?

One Lovely Blog Award

April 17, 2012 By Jodi

Last week (on my birthday coincidentally) we were given the One Lovely Blog from our good friend Katherine at Life With Arie.
If you are unfamiliar with Life With Arie, you should head on over and check it out.  Katherine is currently doing an A to Z blog challenge, and just recently hit the half-way mark, if you hurry you can catch up.  😉
For some reason I just can’t figure out HOW to get this dang award in my side-bar, so I’m plopping it right smack in the middle!

One Lovely Blog Award

Anyway, here are the rules for the One Lovely Blog Award

1. Link back to the one who gave you this award – see above
2. Pass the award on to 15 other lovely bloggers.
While I love each and every one of your blogs, I decided to go with some blogs that I’ve only recently begun following.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
Tricks For Treats
The Daily Dog Blog
Snoopy’s Dog Blog
Rumpy Dog
Paws Helping Paws
Laurie Bartolo Photography
Hey It’s Jet Here
Vizsla Inspiration
Pittieful Love
Life With Desmond
Shoes On The Wrong Feet
I Still Want More Puppies
Frankly Speaking
Collies of the Meadow
3. Follow the person who presented you with the award.   Done.  🙂
I am also presenting this award to The (mis)Adventures of Sage, sadly they lost a member of their pack today, so if you have a moment,  pop over and say hello.  I know a kind word would be appreciated right now.
Thanks again to our friend Katherine at Life With Arie, for this awesome award!
And I’m not really sure what’s up with this formatting.  It looks fine in the template, but when I hit publish it’s all smushed up.
