A Monday Kind of Friday

September 17, 2012 By Jodi

I had a Monday…..last Friday.

It started off nicely enough. The jeans I wanted to wear… fit.

A Friday doesn’t start much better than that.

I got to work, made the coffee and my boss called.

Those landscape plans came in late last night and have to be delivered immediately.

No problem it was a beautiful day for a ride, so I grabbed the plans and hopped in the car.  I cruised along with the windows down, listening to Springsteen playing thru the radio.

The woman I was delivering the plans to is a dog lover and we’ve talked dog before.  It’s true what Pamela at Something Wagging says, We’re All The Same When We Love a Dog.

We already have something in common and can start a conversation.

How’s your woofies she asked.

They’re great, how are yours?

After confirming that our dogs were good, it was time to head back to work.

I walked in the door and said, I need my coffee.

Grab my cup and head to the break room and…. my co-workers had drunk most of it.  One of the gals offered to split the tiny bit that was left, but I said don’t worry about it, I’ll make more.

I reset the coffee pot and went to check my e-mails…..ah the coffee was ready.

I grabbed my cup and headed once again to the break room when in walked the water supply guy. He replaced our empties with full ones and went to use the men’s room.

Meanwhile, the phone had rung and I was once again back at my desk, minus coffee.

The water guy had just left the building and climbed into his truck when I heard water running.

Oh crap, I hope a pipe didn’t burst, we just had the office painted.

As I ran past the break room I noticed the spigot on the water cooler had broken and water was just pouring out onto the floor.  I grabbed the spigot and tried to fit it back on the cooler.

The phone rang.

HELP I shouted.  Thankfully one of my co-workers grabbed the phone for me, and then I remember the water guy might still be here.

HELP I shouted again.

I had two choices.  Stand there like the little Dutch boy with his finger in the dam while the water guy slipped away, or let the water run all over the floor while I attempted to grab the water guy.

I ripped the bottle of water off the cooler and ran for the door.

The water guy looked up in shock as I burst through the doors and ran frantically up to his truck waving my arms.

The spigot broke and water is just gushing all over the floor!

He looked at me like I’d just said, aliens invaded NYC, but thankfully he shut off the truck and followed me inside.

By the time we got back to the break room another co-worker had grabbed a pitcher and was catching the last of the water.

I’ll be back on Monday the water guy said as he exited the building with our water cooler, leaving me on floor with a roll of paper towels, and an empty coffee cup sitting on the table.

Great, see you Monday.

P.S. I tried not to let the start color the rest of my day.  I looked forward to an evening walk with my puppies, just a half-hour of mindless nothing, me and the puppies communing with nature.

Somehow even with the beauty of nature and time with the dogs couldn’t shake the funk.

How do you shake off the funk of a bad day?

Twisted Awards

September 16, 2012 By Jodi

Our friends over at Dogs N Pawz nominated us for not one, but two awards!  I mentioned in last Sunday’s post that I had more awards to share, and I thought today would be a nice day to do so.

The first award is The One Lovely Blog Award.

Thank you most kindly to our friends at Dogs N Pawz.

The rules for this award are:

Thank the blogger bestowing the award and provide a link back to their blog.

Share seven things about yourself.

Share the award with seven other bloggers.

  • My favorite non-alcoholic drink is seltzer water.  Plain old seltzer water.
  • I like my seltzer (and water when I have it) to be served at room temperature.
  • My favorite alcoholic drink is Tequila.  I love it in Margaritas but am also quite content to just throw back some shots. 🙂
  • My favorite way to drink coffee is with Irish Cream, I will settle for Cafe’ Petrone if the Irish Cream is unavailable.
  • Fall is my favorite time of year, spring is my second favorite.
  • I love to bake, especially in fall.
  • I suck at tweeting.

The second award we received from Dogs N Pawz was the Beautiful Blogger Award.

Thank you again to our friends over at Dogs N Pawz.

The requirements to this award are thank the blogger, provide a link back to their blog and nominate seven other blogs.

Sharing the links is always the hard part for me, as there are so many blogs that I love reading.

Vizsla Inspiration – Anna the photographer and Luna her four-legged side kick. Anna and Luna are always perfecting a new trick. I seem to recall she taught Luna how to close the refrigerator.  Maybe I should just send Delilah to Anna? 🙂

Talking Dogs Blog – Not only does Sue make some pretty dog-gone awesome jewelry, at least once a week she features an adoptable dog from her local humane society.  I’m putting some of her pieces on my Christmas wish list. 😉

Oh Corbin – What can I say.  I love Corbin, I love how he looks and I love how his mom fosters.  She is awesome and works really hard in rescue to make sure her pups find their forever homes.

Murray’s Mouth – I recently started following this blog.  She’s got a dream for a dog park too.  🙂  Her latest post has some great cost saving tips, to help your furry friend’s budget in these tough economic times.

Bassa’s Blog – I have it from a reliable source our little Caucasian Shepherd is going to be two years old very soon.  She finds the most interesting things on her daily walks with the tall person.

Fabulous Flo – Flo is a fabulous Rhodesian Ridgeback and if her craziness wasn’t enough, her mum just added a second little (for now) Ridgeback to their pack.  I think little Elsie is creating more havoc than Flo ever did!

Little Dogs On Long Leashes – It really is a dog blog.  Recently she’s been sorting through her treasures and taking us on a trip down nostalgia lane.  She promises the dog will have something to say in the very near future. 🙂

Like I said in the beginning, it’s the awards with a twist.  And here’s the twist. 🙂

I know that sometimes these awards really make their way around blogville and while I tried to check and make sure you haven’t just received this award, I’m giving you the option of choosing which award you’d like.

I look forward to seeing your choices and discovering more great blogs, which is the really neat thing about these awards.:-)

Well we’re off for our daily walk, happy reading!

I’ll leave you with a couple of pictures of what the dogs chased yesterday morning.

It took me a minute to locate him way up there on the tree.

A zoomed in shot, you can see his little glowing eyes.

I’ve seen them run a short way up a tree, but I’ve never seen one climb so high. Did you know they can climb trees?   What’s the most interesting thing you’ve ever seen on a walk?

Dogcula

September 15, 2012 By Jodi

I spent some time on youtube last night looking for some positive training methods of teaching a dog to take a treat gently.

Honestly you’d think after five years of screaming in pain every time we give Delilah a treat, one of us would learn.

Either we would figure out how to teach her in a way that she’d remember, we’d learn to tell her easy or she would learn how not to amputate fingers when she took a treat.

It is one of the harder aspects of using positive reinforcements for me.

Yes it’s true.

Delilah is Dogcula.

I am constantly cursing because she’s bitten my finger.  Last winter I couldn’t figure out why my middle finger kept hurting.  (While it’s true I do use that finger frequently, it’s not being used in a manner to cause pain…for me.)

Last night when giving her a treat, she drew blood.

Granted it was a small puncture, but it bled none-the-less.  After treating it with antibiotic cream, I spent some time on youtube looking for some positive methods to teach a dog to take a treat gently.

None of the videos I watched really taught me much (okay, you caught me, I only watched two, but neither one was very helpful.)

I gave up on youtube pretty quickly because I’m just lazy I’d much rather turn to my friends and see how they manage their dogs.

What’s a few fingers when I’m so stinkin’ cute?

So tell me, do you have Dogcula’s living in your house, or have you taught them to take treats gently?  If so, how did you do it?

I thank you and my hands thank you.
