About Those Wooly Bears

October 25, 2013 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

Follow-Up Friday

About those wooly bears:

Sue said, “When the brown bands on woolly worms are narrow, it means a harsh winter. The wider the brown band, the milder the winter will be.”

I knew it was something like that!

Frankie and Ernie had a great post with detailed information about what the stripes on the wooly bears mean.

You Make Me Smile – I’ll Always Want a Lab

Houndstooth asked, “Delilah is one dog I would love to meet in person! Can you bring her to Vegas for me?”

I know that anything goes in Vegas, but honestly I’m not sure even sin city is ready for this dog!

Blueberry’s Human said, “Nose prints on my clothes though – or nose juice running down my neck in the morning from B’s head being under my chin – that makes me smile every time. The first time it happened I thought I was sweating and then realized, ‘Nope, that’s from her nose!’.”

Now that made me laugh!  Neither of my dogs have ever dripped ‘nose juice’ down my neck.

And here is the punk picture as promised.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA I love this photo, it looks to me like she’s smiling!

I Spy With My Little Eye

So here is the original photo.

And here are the comments:

Jackie said, “Yeah – how do we get the average non-picker-upper to pick up? Those are probably the same “the rules don’t apply to ME” people I see all the time doing stuff like texting while they drive. How do we get them to stop doing ALL the bad things they do?”

I wish i knew.

Oz said, “I snoop, and I snoop but I cannot locate the poop (in the photo)!”

I love this Oz!  Even when it’s not limerick month, you are still a rhyming kind of dog!

Donna said, “Ugh. I can understand losing it in the leaves, that happens in my own yard, especially with Miss Medi the walk-while-she-poos dog, but in the middle of the path??”

Delilah does that too.  In fact, sometimes I call her “Delilah shit-walker.”  Shhh, don’t tell her.

Sugar asked, “Yikes on Delilah … did it smelled?”

I didn’t smell it, but I think it was a couple of days old and had lost it’s potency.

I’m pretty sure that some of you spotted the poop, only you know for sure.  Let me know if you did.

Did you spot it?
Here it is.

She Just Needed a Chance

Callie, Shadow and Ducky’s Mom asked, “What I can’t figure out is why the adoption fee at your pound is 10 times higher. For residents than it is for non-residents. Shouldn’t it be at the very least only a few dollars higher; and more logically a few dollars lower??”

You know, I really wanted to call the pound and ask them, but then I knew I’d ask about her and I was afraid of the answer.  I’ll try and call this week.

Jessica asked, “Is there any way you could get a group together to advocate for longer hold times?”

We do have some really great animal advocates in this state.  I’ll see what I can find out.

My other thought is, their website says, “Can be euthanized” at the 10th day, and I’m wondering if that is dependent upon how many animals they are housing.

2 Brown Dawgs said, “I don’t understand the thinking of removing a dog from any given situation only to euthanize it. Or maybe euthanizing this dog was what they had in mind when it was removed? That to me is the question.”

Another really good question.  My thought is euthanizing the animal is more compassionate than letting it die slowly and suffering.

Fetch Mama

Gizmo said, “Delilah you’re a great coach but like your mom there are some pounds on Momz that won’t come off no matter how hard I work her…She tells me it’s cause she’s older than dirt and her metabolism is broken…Now I don’t know what that means, but I think she’s just lazy.”

Delilah here:  I wonder if that’s not the case with my Mama too, she seems to always have an excuse for not doing something.

And Mama?  I read that and that’s just mean.

Which Way Did He Go?

Chipmunks are cute, but they can be very destructive.  Sadly we need to find a way to remove them.

And on another sad note, Bennie the Frenchie, the little hero of our calendar fundraiser, lost his fight yesterday.   Our hearts and prayers are with his Mama and Lily.

That’s a wrap for this week’s Follow-Up Friday.  If you are interested in co-hosting, please let me know either in the comments, on facebook or drop me an e-mail.

Where Did He Go?

October 24, 2013 By Jodi

Dogs and Chipmunks

Every morning I go outside to empty our dehumidifier.  And every morning Sampson goes outside with me.  He’s a very good boy, usually listens well and stays in his yard.

Monday morning a spot just outside the garage caught Sampson’s attention.  It is a spot that has a sand filled free-standing basketball hoop base and for some reason a board.

Don’t ask.  I’m not in charge of the outside, I have no idea why it’s there. Or what purpose it serves, other than to hit someone in the face if they step on it wrong.

But I digress.

Anyway, Sampson was sniffing around and then he shoved his nose deep between the base and the board.

Chipmunk-P

There was a squeak, squeak and a chipmunk darted out and ran across the driveway to one of the drain pipes.  Sampson’s paws scrabbled across the pavement trying to get traction as he attempted to chase the chipmunk.

Sadly for Sampson, the chipmunk got away.  But it was a great way to start his week!

Dogs of Blogville Calendars

The calendars have been ordered and should be shipped to me tomorrow!  I’m expected to receive them either next Wednesday or Thursday.  I hope to be able to get them sorted and shipped out by November 4th.  I don’t have the exact figure of what we raised this year, (because I have to factor in the postage to mail them out to you.)

However, I think I can say with confidence that it will be over $1,000.00!!

Good job everyone!!

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

Tomorrow’s blog hop will be hosted by me.  I asked in last week’s post for volunteers and had none, so I’m flying solo this week.

Fetch Mama

October 23, 2013 By Jodi

K-9 Kamp Kounselor Delilah here again, updating you on all the things we are doing to get fit and keep K-9 Kamp

F.U.N.

k9kampbadge-300x300

K-9 Kamp is a fun way to help get yourself and your humans in shape, hosted by our friends Koly and Felix at Kol’s Notes, Kelly and Ike at Peggy’s Pet Place and Gretel and Chester at You Did What With Your Weiner.

Whether you’re looking to lose a few pounds, tone some jiggly spots or just out to have fun with your canine/human counter part, K-9 Kamp is the place to do it.

There are lots of awesome Kampers participating and lots of awesome prizes, so make sure you stop by the host’s blogs and check it out.

With winter on the way, we need to take advantage of the outdoors as much as we can.  Sampson and I have a goal and that’s to help The Mama get into shape and lose some of her unwanted pounds.

Shhh Mama, I’m not going to tell them how out of shape and overweight you really are.  All they have to do is look at your photos.

Photos don’t lie Mama.

A couple of years ago Sampson and I were very overweight.  We went on a strict raw diet and daily walks and we both lost about 30 pounds.  Now we look and feel great!

But what do you think happened to The Mama during that time?  Did she get lean and mean like us?

Sadly the answer is no.  The Mama has gained weight in the last couple of years and despite our daily walks she hasn’t been able to drop those unwanted pounds.

With the help of K-9 Kamp, Sampson and I set out to change that.

One of the fun things we like to do is play fetch with The Mama.

Bubbers 2

Traditionally humans play fetch by tossing an object such as a Frisbee and encouraging the dog to go and retrieve it and bring it back.

That’s not how we roll.

We put our own spin on fetch and make The Mama work.  You can see what I mean in this video.

We let The Mama throw the disc, and pretend like we are going to bring it back, except we don’t.  Sampson holds onto it, while I run back to get The Mama and encourage her to finish her retrieve.

We’re working on getting her to run back for her retrieve instead of walking.  What can I say, she’s a work in progress.

Put the effort in Mama, it will pay off.

As for Sampson and I, well sometimes we just like to play a little tug of war with that Frisbee.

It’s that little something extra, that helps keep us fit and trim.

The Mama is saying that she lost some weight this past week, but I haven’t seen the numbers on the scale, so I can’t verify that.

Rest assured Mama, Sampson and I are here to help you.  We’ll get that weight off you, I promise.

Put the donut down Mama, it’s not helping your cause.

So how are the rest of you doing?  Do you need any tips or suggestions?
