Follow Up Friday-The Only Flea I WANT Near My Dogs

November 15, 2013 By Jodi

Hello and welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, co-hosted by Jones Natural Chews and Heart Like a Dog.  This is the blog hop that wraps up your week and leads you right into the weekend!

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

As I mentioned joining me today is Flea from Jones Natural Chews.  I love Flea.  She’s super awesome.  And she’s got a great job, siriusly she goes around giving treats to dogs.  All kinds of dogs!   Imagine having a job where you get to play with dogs all day.  Sounds like heaven to me!

Thanks for joining me today Flea!!

Follow-Up Friday

Lauranne said, “Nuticles is a brilliant word – I may have to adopt it!!”

I wish I could take credit for it, but I can’t!  I first heard about it on Something Wagging This Way Comes  Trust Pamela to find something like this. 🙂

A Big Ole’ Shit Eating Grin

JoAnn asked, “Does he grunt when rolling on back?”

Sometimes he does, mostly he grunts when he’s getting off the couch.  It reminds me of a pig. LOL

Smiley McSmiley

Roxy the Traveling Dog asked, “Does your vet offer cleaning without it?”

I don’t know, but seeing as there are other things he will have taken care of, I think it’s best to put him out.

Maggie said, “I’ve always worried about anesthesia, too, but I think you set yourself up for success if you do the optional pre-anesthetic lab work.”

And 2 Brown Dawgs asked, “Your vet will do blood work first right?”

I agree Maggie and yes to 2 Brown Dawgs.  I set it up so I can bring him in the night before and have the blood work done. They will run the results while we wait.

When Delilah went to be spayed we were in the process of moving and the vet’s office called (not my current vet) and said she had a UTI and they couldn’t do her surgery.  She was stuck all day at the Vet and hadn’t eaten breakfast.  I finally convinced them to give the poor thing some kibble.

My vet tech friends JoAnn and Jen both reassured me things will be okay.  Remember the date Jen, you can be sure I’ll be texting you on that day. 😀

Cocobanana

After I posted I thought, geez, it would have been nice to show what the cookies looked like!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA As you can see, the M&M’s didn’t fare so well in the baking process.

Donna said, “The cocobanana sounds great for the pups, and love your jingle at the end, but tell me more about those orange chocolate chip muffins.”

It’s been a long time Donna, but I’ll work on a recipe for you. 😉

Oz says, “Great dawg! Can I come live with you, Miss Jodi?”

I’ve already got your little bed picked out Oz!

2 Brown Dawgs asked, “So besides being too moist, did you like the people version?”

YES.  I liked the people version and the dog version, the combination of the coconut and banana gave it a perfect amount of sweetness.

Dawn asked, “Too bad I hate baking. Can you mail me some?”

I’m not sure how they’d hold up seeing as there are no preservatives in them, but I’d try.

Good Gracious Sebaceous!

It’s hard to get a photo of this thing when you’re attempting it alone, but here goes.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

JoAnn said, “It’s best to have them removed so they don’t rupture causing a mess and possible infection.”

I hadn’t known they could rupture, so I’m glad it’s being taken care of.

Julie said, “I’m going to pretend like I didn’t just try to lick my elbow :)”

LOL Julie, I tried too!

Kristine said, “But it bothers me greatly just how much I care about these things. Logically, I know they shouldn’t.”

I agree Kristine.  I don’t know how to fix that.  I’m so very different on the phone or online than I am in person.  In person for some reason my light dims, and I became hugely self-conscious.

Jackie said, “I wouldn’t knock a dog out strictly for something cosmetic.”

I wouldn’t either!  That to me is true vanity.

Sampson’s Puzzled – This ‘N That Thursday

Pamela said, “BTW, want to make a Sampson and leaf puzzle even more challenging? Give it oddly shaped edges.”

She’s evil that one.

Houndstooth said, “Wait! You can do puzzles on the iPad?! How did I not know this?”

Yes you can do puzzles on the iPad!  My favorite was one by Sparkle, (it was free, what can I say, I’m cheap.)  But when Apple updated their IOS, the app wouldn’t work right and I haven’t found another one that I love. 🙁

That wraps up this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, co-hosted by Jones Natural Chews and Heart Like a Dog! Reminder, if you’d like to co-host with me, please let me know in the comments!

Good Gracious Sebaceous!

November 13, 2013 By Jodi

Handsome Sampson

Sampson is a handsome boy.  I mean just look at this face.

photo You cannot see the Sebaceous cyst in this photo.

Besides a myriad of nick names, I sometimes call him Handsome Sampson.  Try saying that three times fast.  Go ahead.  I double dog dare you.

See you can’t.  It’s just like licking your elbow.  Not possible.

Dogs don’t care what they look like

Sampson’s mother is a Golden Retriever while his dad’s breed is unknown.  Since we’ve never had any DNA tests run, we’re guessing Black Lab.  His vet records indicate Golden Lab.  As you can see from this photo, Sampson is beginning to get the white face that you see on so many Goldens and Labs.  When I look at that sweet graying face, it breaks my heart because I know my time left with him is less than the time I’ve already had with him.  But Sampson rarely looks in the mirror and when he does, all he sees is a happy dog.

Good gracious sebaceous!

There’s one other thing Sampson has going on on his face and that’s a Sebaceous cyst.  (Thanks to poor planning on my part, the photo I took of it, is not currently available.  I’ll share it on Friday.)

Sampson of course, is oblivious to the growth on his face. I’ve never noticed him paying much attention to it.  It doesn’t seem like it’s itchy because I haven’t noticed him scratching at it or rubbing his face on the carpet to scratch it.

He doesn’t look in the mirror every day to see what the cyst is looking like, he doesn’t pick at it in hopes of ‘popping’ it or making it smaller and he certainly doesn’t rearrange his fur to try and ‘cover’ it up.

Heart Like a Dog Lesson

I on the other hand seem to always touch this when I’m petting him.  At least once a day I think Oh no, he’s got a tick before realizing I’ve touched the cyst.  It’s well below his eye and in no way affects him.  Yet I still obsess over it.

I also obsess over what people will think of me because I’m carrying a little more weight than I feel comfortable with.  I worry what people will think when they look at my choice of outfits.  I make damn sure to point out the zit on my face before anyone else can.

In a nutshell, I’m vain.  I worry about how I look.  And because of this vanity, I also worry about how my dogs look too.  Which is why when Sampson goes in for his teeth cleaning on December 10th, I’m have that Sebaceous cyst removed.

Why I don’t know, because it’s certainly not bothering Sampson.

Are you like me, worried how others will view you?  Do you find yourself projecting that worry on your dog’s appearance as well?  Are you struggling to find your inner Heart Like a Dog?

A Big Ole’ Shit Eating Grin

November 10, 2013 By Jodi

One of the big reasons I started this blog was for all the crazy, funny things my dogs do that bring a smile to my face or a laugh to my lips.

Sometimes it’s not easy to write a full blog post about it and sometimes I forget to share.

Some posts will be You Make Me Laugh and others will be You Make Me Smile, but they will all be the silly, sweet, funny things Sampson and Delilah do that help make crazy days just a little bit easier.

Sampson, when you lie on the floor with all four feet in the air waiting for me to come and pet you….

Sampson YMMS You make me smile.

When you give me a big ole’ shit eating grin, because I’m petting you…

Sampson YMML You make me belly laugh.

Siriusly, how can you not look at this and laugh?

God, I love this dog.

So tell me, do your fur babies smile like this?  He’s got a nice smile, no?
