Follow-Up Friday

October 4, 2013 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

Joining me this week is Lynda from Two Ears and a Tail.  Lynda was a surprise friend I met while attending BlogPaws.  Lynda joined us when we went out to dinner and I was lucky enough to sit next to her, where she shared the story of her adoption of BJ, the hero of her blog.  If you haven’t met BJ and Lynda yet be sure to stop by and say HI!    Thank you Lynda for co-hosting with me!!

Follow-Up Friday

Ducky’s mom said, “Naw, if you happen to see someone not picking up after their own dog, yell to them to get their a$$es back there & pick it up. If they refuse, run ahead of them, snap a picture of their face. THEN, when you get home, put a caption like “this person does not clean up his/her dog’s poop”, print a bazillion copies, and plaster them all over the park and town.”

And I’ll tell you WHY I DON’T do that.  I worry that people will be vindictive and call animal control on me or harass my dogs in some other manner.  I know it’s probably paranoid, but that’s just how I think.

You Make Me Laugh

Jackie said, “Rita is the opposite. She almost never reminds me to feed her.”

You know Sampson used to be like that with his Kibbles, I’m not sure if he would remain quite as patient now that he’s on raw, but for sure he wouldn’t start bothering me half an hour before his scheduled meal.   Hubby and I have a running joke whenever we are out past their dinner time.   We think Delilah is dancing around the house saying, “Will they be back? When will they be back?  Do you think they know they’re late?”  While Sampson would just be patiently waiting.

Houndstooth said, “Ha ha ha! I would enjoy watching a Delilah reality show! Just sayin’!”

Sign me up.  I’ve often thought of wearing a helmet cam just to capture her antics.  Honestly, if you could hear her whining as I’m preparing her breakfast you’d think she hadn’t eaten in a week.

He’s Different on Leash

Rebecca asked, “Have you tried walking them on a coupler?”

No, I haven’t, but I think I may have to try it.

Donna asked, “What about shortening Sampson’s leash up when you walk, since he likes to stay close by you anyway?”

That’s what I try to do, it’s just a pain winding the leash around my hand.

Jodi asked, “If Delilah had been on leash, do you think Sampson would have run up to those people or do you think that he was just following her lead?”

Yes he would have.  When you get right down to it, Sampson is a people dog.  He loves people far more than he loves other dogs.  When we pull up to the park and he notices another car, he’s on a people hunt, you can see it in his demeanor.

10.3.13 002 Excuse the blurriness of the picture, but this is Sampson on the hunt for someone on our hike.

Jen K left a great video of her walking Alma on a hands free leash.  All I’ve got to say is, you are brave.  I can’t imagine walking either of my dogs with a leash attached to my waist, without a lot more training.  There have been times where they have lurched on the leash and pulled me, and I can’t imagine that coming from my waist.

Most of the time he’s very good off-leash.  BUT when we come upon people unexpectedly and I don’t get the chance to call him back (or he’s seen them first) that’s when the real trouble is.

For instance Tuesday we ran into another dog.  I had Sampson sit and he stayed, until the other dog moved and then there was nothing I could do to get him back.  I just had to let it happen.  (The other dog was also off-leash.)

You Can’t Save Them All

Pam said, “I’ll reserve my nasty thoughts for her previous owners.”

You don’t have to.  You’re welcome to share them here.  It’s not like I haven’t thought them. 😀  Don’t get me wrong.  Sometimes animals need to be re-homed, I understand that.  That is not the case with Sugar. If I had my way I’d chain her owner up to a tree in the dirt.  I have a really bad word for people like her, but even I won’t use it on this blog.

Jen said, “One dog at a time.”

Yes ma’am, if that’s how it has to be done, then that’s how we’ll do it!!

Cokie the Cat

Did you think it strange to find a cat on a dog blog?  Last year when Something Wagging did the Pet Blogger Gift Exchange I was paired with Cokie.  His mom is super amazing, kind and generous.  I know her heart is hurting right now and I wanted her to know that I’m thinking of her.

Dogs Just Want to Have Fun

This is going to be challenging for us as the days are shorter and it’s getting dark earlier.  By the time October ends, there will be no more walks in the woods after work.  Any after work walks will be around the block and Hubby is not keen on doing this, so we will have to work extra hard to get some fun things going on in the house.

Jan K said, “We really want to join k9 Kamp this time, but we are definitely going to need some ideas.”

Here’s one for you that I saw on Kol’s Notes.  Monkey in the middle.  Try throwing tiny treats over the dog’s heads.  You can stand as close or as far apart as you want.

That’s it for me, many thanks to Lynda from Two Ears and a Tail for co-hosting with me this week.

Follow-Up Friday – September 27, 2013

September 27, 2013 By Jodi

Welcome to this edition of Follow-up Friday, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

My co-hostess this week lives in the south, but is originally from up north, she’s got that no-nonsense attitude mixed in with her southern charm.  She is fur mom to Shadow, Callie and Ducky, please make sure you pop over and say hello to Sue from The Golden Life.  Many thanks to Sue for co-hosting this week!

I don’t typically follow-up on Follow-up Friday comments, but this one by Dawn really needed a response, “my dog Cassie from my childhood would always walk when she pooped or peed.”

Delilah does the same thing.  We call her “Delilah shit walker.”

You Make Me Laugh

Most of you said your dogs either do the same thing as Sampson, or they hide the toy.  It’s funny isn’t it, that they’ve learned to communicate so well. 😀

Bubbers 2

What’s the Stink About?

Yeah, I think we all agreed that leaving your dog’s business (or in some people’s case, their own brains) right next to the poop station is the epitome of laziness.

I did speak at length with the town Parks and Recreation department manager and I outright told him, the best prevention would be two feet in the park observing who is doing (or not doing) what.  I also suggested poop stations and trash cans scattered throughout the park, but so far nothing has happened.

Some day I will go up there without the dogs and bring my pail and scooper, I won’t mind picking up after someone else’s dog in that manner.

Pumpkin Patties

Gizmo said, “These do sound good enough to share and they look just like peanut butter cookies…hmm, maybe add a touch of peanut butter too?”

That’s where I got the idea for pressing them with a fork Gizmo!  I can’t eat peanuts myself, but I bet some almond, cashew or sunbutter would work just as well.  Actually I’m planning on making an icing for them this weekend and see how that tastes.

Tenacious Little Terrier said, “They look good. Perfect for fall. I’m tempted to make some and leave them out so the BF will eat them unaware.”

Oh that made me LOL.  You should record it too.

Jodi, Kolchak and Felix said, “Those look amaaaaaazing! Did you know you can get cookie scoops (kind of like mini ice cream scoops ) to get uniform balls? Then you just have to roll them around a bit to warm ‘em up & shape them and voila! You’ve rolled Mrs. Taleteller’s mind right into the gutter (but your cookies will look good too.)”

Shit, I have one of those little scoops too!  It’s been so long since I’ve been baking I’ve forgotten all the tricks to the trade.

BTW, I like putting Mrs. Taleteller’s mind in the gutter, I’m thinking of asking her to share a room with me Vegas. 😉  I think we could get into some sirius trouble.

It’s a Doggone Shame

Jen said, “I’m not sure if I could tie the poop to my loops, something about hot shit hitting my thigh would drive me crazy!”

Yeah, really I tried it once but the bag of shit bopping along with me on the walk, just didn’t sit well.  I thought it would be a great photo for shaming purposes so I recreated the photo, but typically I don’t walk with it like that!  It grosses me out.

-1

Jen K said, “Haha! I am not willing to take the risk of tying Newfoundland-sized poop to my pants”

Um yeah, I don’t blame you on that one!  Lab size is bad enough!

That’s my wrap up for the week.  Don’t forget to swing by and say hello to Sue and the gang.  This is the Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop hosted by The Golden Life and Heart Like a Dog.

Follow-Up Friday – September 20, 2013

September 20, 2013 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

As I mentioned yesterday, my co-hostess this week is Linda from 2 Brown Dawgs.  I love reading about Thunder, Storm and Freighter and their hunting/training exploits.  If you are unfamiliar with this blog, you’re really missing out.  I learn so much from this lady.

You Make Me Smile, Then You Make Me Laugh

I wished I’d said, “Do you have a privacy pooper or a daring dumper?” Instead of “Do you have a dog that digs privacy when they poop?  Or is yours more like Delilah who will go wherever the urge hits her?”

Bren asked, ” BTW, do your babies do that kick back after they pooh and then going running like a bat outta he**?”

First, you can say hell on this blog Bren, no judgements. 😀  Second, sometimes Sampson kicks, but mostly he just dumps and runs.  Delilah is the kicker, but she doesn’t run afterwards.  She kicks a lot though.  Many times I’ve come awful close to getting a face full of dirt because of her kicking.

Margie Guess said, “BYW.. I’m Ginger the Cinderella girl.”

I don’t know what that means Margie, but you have my attention.  If you have a blog would you please provide the link?

Sampson HAS gotten better, in fact he pooped right on the lawn at the Vet’s last week.  But when he was younger, I would pick him up at daycare and he would head strait for the back yard so he could do his business.  I peed on the side of a thruway once so I’m not sure how I got this modest dog.

Good Morning Monday

Jan K said, “Oh no, just when I was getting ready to say how great his leg looks….has he had a limp before?”

He has had a limp before, but it comes and goes.  Since he limped on Monday I haven’t seen him do it again.  It could just be that he spends an awful lot of time just laying around and his leg was a bit stiff.  I’ll be keeping an eye on it.

Jen said, “Why the hell is he limping? Its gotta be a coincidence. He’s just trying to drive you off the deep end.”

I think you’re totally right.  He just wants me more neurotic than I already am!

Oh and I’m so glad that so many of you don’t like to just hand your pets over either. 🙂

Heya – Meet Taya

2 Brown Dawgs asked, “Hope she finds a good home! I wonder if Corgi rescue would take her?”

Taya went with a possible adopter for a couple days stay on a trial basis.  Sadly it didn’t work out.  Taya was guarding the towel hanging from the lady’s refrigerator and wouldn’t let her open it.   It made the woman uncomfortable, so she returned Taya.  BTW Taya was very happy to leave.

The family member who currently has her already has her hands full with three dogs, so she’s contacting a rescue who has already agreed to take Taya and is working on the best way to transition her.

For anyone who might be interested she is currently in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Sue said, “As for a plan… the kids have been warned – the dogs are getting everything.”

Oooh, you’re brave Sue, I haven’t told mine yet. 😀

Coffee and Donuts with Peggy Frezon

I don’t know about you, but when I was in my 20’s and 30’s I could eat just about anything and never gain an ounce.  NOW it seems like I look at a donut and I’ve gained a pound.

Sometimes I feel like it’s hopeless.  I really do try and watch what I eat and I walk every day, yet I still have that heavy middle that just won’t go away.

Maybe I need to up my game?

This ‘N That Thursday

Jan said, “I can remember not long ago when people lost their lives because they wouldn’t leave their pets in a disaster. I’m so glad that people are understanding how important our furry family members are.”

I’m glad too Jan, I would never abandon my dogs, in fact I have a plan to get home to my house via the trails should there ever be a situation where the roads are closed.

And many thanks to Flea, ” If you really are free to a good home, there’s space in our bonus room. We have a nice library. But no TV.”

Do you have Wifi? I have an iPad so as long as I have Wifi I don’t need TV.

free

Donna said “I do look forward to seeing what hi-jinks your dogs have planned for the Human-Shaming Blog Hop. Especially Delilah. She’s a crafty one.”

Yes, yes she is.  She’s also sarcastic and can be a bit snarky.  I hope I can keep her under control. 😀

That’s a wrap for me, many thanks to 2 Brown Dawgs for co-hosting the hop!
