Follow-Up Friday – September 19, 2014

September 19, 2014 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the post where I highlight reader’s comments, answer questions and generally just wrap up my week.

You Make Me Smile – September 14, 2014

Nom, nom.

Nom, nom.

2 Brown Dawgs said, “Love the shiny spit on the kong…lol.”

LOL You can have it.  This dog has a very, very wet mouth!!  Even giving her a treat, you need a towel.

Chelsea Price said, “I ADORE this series. It’s so refreshing to read such positive and upbeat posts each week.”

Thank you, I’m so glad.  My dogs bring me so much joy and I just want to share that with you all.

Curiosity…it’s Not Just For Cats

Lauranne said, “I was half waiting for the spray in the face photo!”

OMD could you imagine?  She would have freaked out!  I had watched the sprinkler as we approached and knew there was not a chance of that, unless she went around it, then all bets were off!

Two French Bulldogs said, “I bit that thing this morning. Not smart.”

OH NO!  I hope you weren’t too traumatized.

The Lab-ra-language

Emma said, “We sit at the back door when we want to go play in the yard, but when we want to come back in, we just ring our dog doorbell and Mom comes running. Watching Mom come running is the best because she knows if she makes us wait, I will lay on that bell non stop until she comes!”

Emma, you always make me smile.  You and your sisters are the main reason I do not have a doggie doorbell. LOL

DZ Dog says, “Dante likes to employ a very loud deep sigh….it means, “dang you guys are boring for making me wait.”

Ah, the sigh.  Yes, Delilah does that occasionally too, and sometimes she uses a little “haaaarumpff,” it’s absolutely hysterical.

It’s Dog or Nothing said, “It’s really amazing how we’re able to communicate so effectively with our dogs. They really do have a way of telling us what they need/want. Mauja likes to whack me with her paw if I’m not paying enough attention to her.”

LOL they do have a way of communicating, don’t they?

Sampson and the Two Dicks

You guys, how can you meet two men named Dick and not want to write a post about that?

Some dogs just have it. What can I say?

Some dogs just have it. What can I say?

Emma said, “To revisit an old topic of yours…why you get so much spam… :) You know with that title the world wants to read whether we know the true meaning or not.”

Yes, that would certainly explain the porn spam.  True story…when I first started blogging and knew nothing about plugins, I published a post that had the word ‘bush’ in it.  You wouldn’t believe the porn spam I got on that post.  It got to a point where I actually unpublished the post.  Thankfully now I have that amazing spam filter and I don’t see any spam.  At all.

Molly the Wally said, “LOL we were in the gutter for a moment with that title.”

LOL well I admit the title was designed for that purpose. 😉

SlimDoggy said, “Emma is right…you attract spam with those titles…but then again, you attract me, so what does that say about me??? ”

LOL it says a lot to me. 😉  Can’t wait to hang out with you!

Frankie and Ernie said, “THAT was an interesting walk…. It reminds me of the old … I’m Darrel and this is my Brother Darrel.”

That was exactly what I was thinking!!

Jan asked, “I am sure your neighbors–including the dicks–are grateful to have such a great politician such as Sampson to keep order in your neighborhood. Has he considered running for national office?”

He has not, he just can’t find a good handler. 😉

Two French Bulldogs said, “I stand around and wait for people to approach me. Mom said her heart breaks at my look when some buddy walks by and ignores me.”

I totally get that.  It breaks my heart too when someone will not acknowledge him.  But he just tries again the next time, he’s good like that.

Update on Leroy

The Go Fund Me page is up.  I want to thank all of you who have contributed to Leroy’s Fund and have shared his story.  I know having funds to help defer the costs of his care is a great relief to Jen and her family.    Please know, if you shared Leroy’s story, you have helped.  If you donated, no matter how much you have helped.

Leroy is still retaining fluid and is scheduled for a scope today, hopefully that will give them the answers they need to help Leroy recover.

Just a reminder if you’d like to share his Go Fund Me page, you can find it HERE.  And if you want to stop by and let Jen know you’re thinking of her, her Facebook page is HERE.

The thing I love best about this blogging community is the community.  You guys are the absolute best and that always shines through, especially when one of our own needs you.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Follow-Up Friday – September 12, 2014

September 12, 2014 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the post where I highlight reader’s comments, answer questions and generally just wrap up my week.

You Make Me Smile – September 7, 2014

Emma said, “Looks a bit wet for grilling, but I’m sure the smells are all still there. Good news! I got this post in my email, fyi”

Yay, I’m so glad the e-mail is working again!!  And we grill in any weather, if it’s pouring we use a giant umbrella. 🙂

Sue said, “When you think about how strong dogs’ sense of smell is, it’s a wonder any dog could resist the smell of a freshly used grill! ”

Good point!

Frankie and Ernie asked, “Now GRILL inspector sounds like a PERFECT job to US. Does it pay well?”

It would be a perfect job for you guys, since you wouldn’t have to stoop to get underneath. 🙂  I’m pretty sure the pay is just tips though.

It Was a Perfect Fall Day

Kirsten said, “Glad you had a perfect fall day on Sunday, and a perfect opportunity to work on some life skills. Delilah will get there, it just will take some time. And more cookies :)”

Lord, I’m going broke trying to keep this dog in cookies. LOL

A Great Dane Ate 43 Socks – WTF Wednesday

WHAT? Socks? Siriusly? Who in their right mind eats socks? Ohh..it was a Dane you say? Right.

WHAT? Socks? Siriusly? Who in their right mind eats socks? Ohh..it was a Dane you say? Right.

Molly the Wally said, “We have to say we thought about who the heck does the laundry over there and did they not wonder why the sock monster was working on overdrive? Some people shouldn’t have socks let alone a dog LOL. Gosh do they have kids?”

You know, that thought crossed my mind too. God help them if they do!

Lauranne said, “I feel this is a friendly, none judgemental place (ha) so I am going to own up that as a puppy Mity once ate a mitten. … The vet was called within minutes!!”

See darling, the difference is 1) you knew that he ate the mitten because….wait for it…you were paying attention to your dog!! and 2) You called the vet immediately!  Who knows how long that poor Dane had those socks in its stomach!

2 Brown Dawgs said, “I don’t know. If you have a dog who eats things, you don’t always know what they have eaten. ”

I agree with you to a point.  Yes it’s true I’ve found things in the yard that could only have gotten there one way (hello Delilah) BUT we’re not talking about tennis ball fuzz or toothpicks (yes I’ve found both of those in my yard) we’re talking about 43 socks.  Unless the dog just went on a crazy toe jam binge and ate them all within a short period of time, I’d say someone was not paying attention to that dog.

Pamela asked, “I wonder if this is a situation where the people knew the dog ate socks and they thought it was funny. How many YouTube videos have you seen of just this kind of thing?”

This is why I don’t search this stuff on Youtube, because there are some stupid people out there that would do it, just for the attention.

Sharon S said, ” I read another post earlier this week about a dog that ate 24 hair ties that belonged to the little girl in the family. The owner had no idea about it until the hair ties showed up on an x-ray.”

Now that I could see.  Hair ties are small and are easily lost or misplaced.  If you ever raised a houseful of girls you know how that goes!

Jan asked, “Did he just eat them in pairs and they didn’t notice that nothing matched up any more? ”

Yeah Jan, I’m flummoxed on this one too.

Who Wants a Cookie?

FYI I happened to be at the vet with Sampson yesterday getting his acupuncture treatment and I mentioned to my vet the incident with Delilah and the cookie.  Would you believe the vet said he’d have let her have that cookie?  Not intentionally of course, but he said in dog her size it wouldn’t likely hurt her.  He’d be more concerned if it was baker’s chocolate.

Emma said, ” Bailie and I enjoy stealing food, but we are nothing compared to cat bro Bert. He is the worst of the worst and getting worse all the time. ”

I got nuthin’ for this one Emma.  I have no idea how to control cats.  One of the reasons I don’t have cats is because I don’t like them on the counters or tables and I don’t know a good way to keep them off.

Jan K said, “Oh boy, we could exchange eyesight stories for a while, couldn’t we?”

Sadly, I think you’re right. LOL

I do, I want a cookie.

I do, I want a cookie.

Pamela said, “Delilah’s coat in your first picture looks like velvet. ”

We get complimented on her coat all the time, she really does have a beautiful one.  Sometimes when I look at her and her ears are back she reminds me a baby seal, all sleek and shiny.

DZ Dogs asked, “Have you worked on, “leave it” with Delilah?

Yes I have and it works sometimes if I drop something, but when she’s gone up on the counter it’s not an option.

That’s it for me, have a great weekend!!

Follow-Up Friday – September 5, 2014

September 5, 2014 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the post where I highlight reader’s comments, answer questions and generally wrap up my week.

Before we get to that, some of you have said you aren’t receiving the e-mail post.  I apologize for this.  I’m currently working on it, I’ve contacted Jetpack to see what the issue is.  I hope to have this issue rectified soon.

You Make Me Laugh – August 31, 2014

Were are the minions when you need them?

Were are the minions when you need them?

Molly the Wally said, “That is what staff is there for.”

Oh yes Molly, that is exactly what the staff is there for! 🙂

Sue said, “LOL Jeffie does the same thing with toys… lounges on the couch while his minions return them to him. ”

Would you believe that’s the exact word I used when talking with Hubby?  We are his minions. LOL

Pamela said, “Years ago, I read about a study of dog intelligence. The researchers claimed that border collies were more intelligent than golden retrievers because the BCs worked longer to solve a problem while the GRs looked to their people for help. At the time, I doubted their conclusion. After all, what is smarter than getting someone else to solve a problem for you?”

I’m with you 100% on this one. He’s a very smart dog, he knows he will be taken care of.

Canine ACL Injury/Surgery

This post is a perfect example of why I need Follow-Up Friday.  I totally forgot to include one very important fact.  Due to the limited physical exercise we gave Sampson from the time he first injured his leg until his surgery, the muscle in his injured leg atrophied.  I think this was a contributing factor to his slow healing.

Have you been following the Round Robin?  If you want to but are having trouble keeping up, I am adding each post to the community page.   So far we’re off to a great start!

Jen Jelly said, “I think I probably would have waited on surgery as well because from what I understand it can heal on its own sometimes. I guess given his size maybe it was less likely?”

I am not a veterinarian but from what I understand over time scar tissue will build up.  The dog will be able to use the leg, but will probably always have a limp.

Jane Rade said, “I agree with you. Conservative management sounds very tempting but often it just ends up being waste of time and asking for furthered damage (such as to the meniscus, the other leg etc.) ”

Nothing I read told me that.  I wish I’d known about it, I definitely would have scheduled the surgery right away.  I have heard that smaller dogs have a better success rate with conservative management.

The Writer’s Process Blog Tour

Emma asked, “Good luck with the publishing part. I don’t remember, are you trying to find a publisher, or self publish?”

Ideally I’d go the traditional route with an agent and a publisher.  Once it’s done I will be letting a few people read it and once I get input, we’ll see how it goes.

Pamela asked, “But you raised a whole other question: if part of your novel writing process is exploring the idea of living on Emerald Isle, why are you writing a mystery? Is that really the life you want to live?”

It’s hard to explain without giving away a whole lot of plot.  Let’s just say the mystery pulls the heroine in.

Jan K said, ” Good luck with the publishing part, I imagine that’s not easy?”

I suspect it’s a lot harder than writing!

Stalked on a Walk Thursday’s Bark and Bytes

King of all he surveys.

King of all he surveys.

Sue said, “I was beginning to think Honey Chipmunk had a death wish! Hope your stalker is not a 100% outside kitty.”

No, I saw one of the kids bringing him inside once.  Although in this neighborhood I really do wonder about letting a cat go outside at all.  Nor would I let a dog stay out for any length of time either.

Lauren Miller said, “Right now we are having a major problem with wildlife. We have new neighbors who are feeding.. It’s been pretty bad. The dogs got into a fence fight with a coyote. ”

HOLY GOD.  I would freak right out.  What did you do? Our neighbor feeds the raccoons and fox, I wouldn’t be surprised if coyotes aren’t attracted to it at some point if they aren’t already.

Jan K said, “I had to laugh at the glasses thing. Earlier this week I took Cricket up into the fields at the farm above us. I saw something in the distance and stood there squinting to try and see what it was. A woodchuck? Would Cricket want to chase that? It turned out to be a crow….they look a lot like woodchucks, right?”

Yes, yes they do.  Just like signs look like little white terriers.  I got your back Jan!

That’s another week in the bag!  Have a great weekend!
