Follow-Up Friday

April 20, 2012 By Jodi

For those new to the blog, my follow-up Friday provides me with an opportunity to update or revise a post from the previous week.

You know sometimes you post about something and you need an update but it doesn’t warrant a whole blog.  Or sometimes someone made a comment that really resonated with you.  Yup, Follow-Up Friday baby! 🙂

Be The Change – Author’s Note

You all had some amazing blog posts yourselves.  It makes it so difficult to focus on one cause as there are so many changes that need to take place.

As for my post, I think we have to start with education and who better to start with than children.  They are so malleable and have such sweet, untarnished souls, they could really be the change.

As for the adults who commit these heinous crimes, larger fines, the possibility of jail time and community service, preferably in a shelter or dog pound.

As usual my awesome readers rose to the occasion leaving some incredible comments.

Kristine suggested “prohibiting pet ownership for a lifetime or a period of years,” as well as community service.

I also loved Jan’s idea, “I’d like to see a national registry of animal abusers like they have for sex abusers. Make the animal abusers pay all the expenses of maintaining it.”

Cue the music.

Ahhh ahhhh ahhhh…..can you hear the angels singing to that?  I know I can. 🙂

The Dogs Got Out….I’m So Done – Update

Dog lovers are a passionate bunch of people.  This was very evident in the comments.

I just want to say that as voices for the voiceless we need to be ambassadors for positive training.   In that respect we need to sometimes temper our passion with kindness and remember that not everyone is aware of the resources available to them.  And when someone reaches out to us, kindness will go so much further than anger and harsh words.

My friend ended up re-homing the newest dog to her neighbor.  Her words were, “I”ve never seen her so happy and relaxed.”  Furthermore her other dog has settled down and there has been no more fence jumping.  Everyone is much happier.

Contact Me – Author’s Note

Most of you wrote in to say you had some way for readers to contact you.  There were some blogs where I couldn’t find contact information, but I could follow them on Twitter, so I tweeted to them.

But there are still some blogs I’m having trouble commenting on.  I would ask you for a favor.  As you are perusing your favorite blogs this week, look about their site and see if they have contact information.  If they do not, would you mind leaving a comment and asking them to check their spam?

What Keeps You Awake At Night – Author’s Note

I want you to know I didn’t mean for the post to sound like I was whining.  I can’t sleep, it’s a fact of my life.

I didn’t mean to sound like I was complaining about Sampson and his need for rubbies.   It does NOT bother me that Sampson is in the bed and sleeping on me, in fact it brings me great joy.  I am truly surprised when I wake up and find myself twisted like a pretzel with Sampson hogging the bed and I actually smile.

There are some nights when it is too warm and he gets off the bed and lies on the floor.  I don’t sleep any better for it.  In fact, sometimes I try to coax Delilah to take his spot.

When I was away in Florida last week I didn’t sleep any better without the dogs.

Being the worrier that I am, I much prefer them in the room with me, if there are any issues I know about it immediately…..unless I pop a Xanax, then they’re on their own. 🙂

Thanks for reading, enjoy your weekend!

The Dogs Got Out….I'm So Done

April 16, 2012 By Jodi

Relax, it’s not my dogs.

I saw this on a friend’s facebook page.  In the comments she said she was thinking about adopting one of her dogs out.

Seems her two dogs are jumping the 6 foot fence to get to the Boxer next door, and this is ticking off the neighbors.

I went to her page and left a comment, oh and of course  I threw in a shameless promotion of this blog, by posting a link and asking her if she read it.

Later in the evening we had a facebook chat and I found out, the dogs don’t jump the fence when someone is outside with them.  Hmmm this means you would always have to be outside with your dogs, which in my opinion is counter-productive to having a fenced in yard.

She said she was the primary care-giver seeing she was home during the day, and she was frustrated.  It had been a bad day.  I told her I could relate to that and posted a link to my Defeated and Lost post.

I suggested tethering the dogs when she wasn’t able to be outside with them.  I also told her I would throw the problem out to my readers and see if any of you had any suggestions.

Last night when I signed on we chatted again.  She had spoken with her husband and they were going to invest in an electric fence.  Her husband has installed and used electric fences before.

I totally forgot about how we solved our problems last winter with Delilah going over our fence.

In the winter of 2010/2011 New England got smacked with gobs and gobs of snow.

We have a five-foot fence in our yard.  We got so much snow you could literally step over it in some spots.  We have a chocolate lab who did precisely that.

I tried tying her out, but stupidly gave her too much room and she went over the fence on her leash!

Hubby went out to Home Depot and bought some deer fencing and some sturdy sticks, then he used zip ties to secure the deer fencing along the top of our fence.  Basically he made our 5 foot fence about 7 1/2 feet high.

It looks like this:

Our ghetto fence.

Our ghetto fence.

I know it looks ghetto, but we are set far back from the road, it is only the back yard that is fenced in and it keeps my dogs safe.

I said I’d throw it out to you, so here it is.  Have you have an issue with your dogs going over your fence?  If so, how did you handle it?   How would you work with your dog to stop them from going over the fence?

Follow-Up Friday

April 13, 2012 By Jodi

For those new to the blog, my follow-up Friday provides me with an opportunity to update or revise a post from the previous week.

You know sometimes you post about something and you need an update but it doesn’t warrant a whole blog.  Or sometimes someone made a comment that really resonated with you.  Yup, Follow-Up Friday baby!

Reflections – Author’s Note

Most of you said your dogs weren’t interested in the laser light (except for you, Snoopy!)   It’s really weird because we won’t notice it for a while and then BOOM, you’re walking across the room and the light catches your watch, and she’s off!

Miss Lily – Author’s Note

Yes, I realized as I was hitting publish that it was Easter and I was talking about reincarnation and Lillies!  LOL I didn’t plan it but it was appropriate, no?

All Is Revealed – Author’s Note

I’m glad that Ron and Mary found Magnum and vice versa.

Big Al had a good point, with a name of Magnum, I think I’m going to start calling Mary, ‘Dirty Mary.’ 🙂

What Happens When The Mama Goes On Vacation – Author’s Note

I think you are all right, the dogs will probably always run back and forth in their yard.  I ‘m sure they do it with every dog that walks past.  My goal will still be to get Delilah not to react to their posturing.

The Trouble With Bobby – Author’s Note

Someone asked about the puppies, as far as I know they were all just fine.  He had one puppy that he couldn’t sell, Diesel who was about the sweetest dog I’ve ever met (besides Sampson.)  I BEGGED Hubby to let me keep Diesel (he only wanted $100 for him) but Hubby said, “No.”

I won’t tell you what I promised Hubby in exchange for the dog, but will let you use your imagination. 😉  Apparently Hubby knew it was an empty promise too. 🙂

The last I knew, Diesel was just fine.

I also think the date of the incident was 2010 instead of 2009.

You Can’t Make This Up or The Trouble With Bobby – Part 2 – Update

I did get a hold of the records department and apparently I’m not entitled to an incident report because it’s an ongoing investigation.  I was referred to the Town Attorney.

I also spoke with the front desk (like it’s a freakin hotel or something) and asked why neither Hubby or myself was notified so we could lock up and why would they leave the house unlocked.  They didn’t have an answer and referred me to the 2nd shift supervisor.  Which I haven’t done yet either.

No doubt about it, this guy is all kinds of stupid.  I’m thinking I may attend his hearing, just to hear if the charges stick or not.

Don’t forget to check out this guest post on The Writing World.

That’s it for me, hope you had a great week and you have an even better weekend!!
