How Much Is That Doggie In The Window?

November 27, 2012 By Jodi

I’ve posted a couple of times in the last few days about our trip to my sister’s in New Hampshire, this past weekend.

This was probably one of the nicest trips we’ve had in a while and I thought today I’d share some thoughts and pictures from it.

Of course, any time I saw a dog I had to snap a photo.

We saw this guy while we were stuck in traffic at the Massachusetts border. Hubby had to roll up the window because Delilah got a bit snarky.

My sister lives in a small town (population just under 6,000) in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, just about 60 miles from the Canadian border.

This is the back side of Main Street across the Ammonoosuc River.

It started snowing Sunday morning, it was so pretty down by the river.

The old mill.

If you’ve never been to the north country (as they like to refer to it) you really don’t know what you’re missing.  There are so many quaint little shops, everyone seems to know everyone else and if you want to cross Main Street, you simply step off the curb and wave your hand.

Cars stop.

They really do.

As we walked down Main Street towards the herb shop, I wondered why the Barber shop had dog statues in the window.

How much are those doggies in the window?

Turns out they weren’t statues.

Meanwhile, back at the house, I learned if you really want to tire your dog out, take them up and down this hill a couple of times.

The photo was taken from the deck, and the dogs were waaaaay down by the smoke.

Of course, it’s not like they walked down the hill, they loved to run.  Which tired them out.

Delilah made herself comfy on her mat on the floor.

Here she is curled up beside me.

When Sampson wasn’t in my sister’s chair, he made himself comfortable on the couch.

Can’t a dog get some shuteye?

The dogs were so tired both nights we were there that:

Delilah did not bother me for her 9 o’clock snack.

She slept on the floor, which is probably the first time since she joined our pack that she slept on the floor.

Yesterday morning she got up, ate breakfast and went back to bed.  Another something that has never happened.

Sunday night Sampson was so tired, he fell asleep eating his snack.

You gotta love it, when your dogs need a vacation from their vacation.

Has your dog ever been tired out from vacation?

And The Winner Is…

November 26, 2012 By Jodi

The Dogs of Blogville Calendar contest is closed.

It was a hotly contested race between Ryder and Kori from All Things Collie and Schatzie from My Girlz Got Paws.  The third place finisher wasn’t even close to these guys.

Initially they went back and forth, with first one in the lead and then the other, but the Collies were tenacious and when the voting ended Saturday morning, they were clearly the winners with 283 votes!

Ryder and Kori

Shatzie had an impressive second place finish with 238 votes, compared to the third place finisher (Sampson and Delilah) with 70 votes.

Schatzie

Congratulations Ryder and Kori (and their mom of course) job well done, you will be on the cover of the dogs of Blogville Calendar.

All told there were 887 votes, which I find completely amazing!  I want to thank all of you for participating in this very fun event.

To make things easier on myself I decided to include the photos in the calendar in the order they finished.

The calendar will look something like this:

January – Ryder and Kori (All Things Collie)

February – Schatzie (My Girlz Got Paws)

March – Sampson and Delilah (Heart Like a Dog)

April – Maia and Titan (Misty Shores Chesapeakes)

May – Mollie (Mollie and Alfie)

June – Toby (Donna and the Dogs Just Toby)

July – Honey (Something Wagging)

August – Frankie and Ernie (Frankly and Ernestly Speaking)

September – Shiva (Rescued Insanity)

October – Blueberry (Spotty, Spotty, Polkadotty)

This is the very first (that I know of) Blogville Calendar and when I set out the rules I sadly forgot to anticipate what would happen if there were a tie.

As it turns out 1 thru 10 were very clear.   However 11, 12, and 13 tied with the same amount of votes.

I wasn’t sure which would be the fairest way to determine which two went into the calendar, so what I did was put 11, 12, and 13’s names on a slip of paper and had Hubby pull one out.

November – Molly (Molly the Wally)

And December’s will be shared with Mazzie (Mazzie Takes Manhattan) and Cali (The Daily Dog Blog)

I just didn’t think it would be fair to exclude one of them.

The remaining 7 photos will go on the back cover.

There you have it, the results of the Dogs of Blogville Calendar Contest.

As of right now, I’m still leaning toward Vista Print, to do the processing, but now that the contest is over I will be shopping around, looking for the best bang for the buck.

There are a couple of photos that were entered that were really small and may be hard to blow up. It may be that you just copied a photo from somewhere and I will be contacting you and asking for the original.  If you don’t have the original, then we may need to put a border around your picture and I will let you know that as well.

I hope to have a post up within the next few days about the ordering process.

If any of you have any thoughts or suggestions on how to make this easier or cheaper, PLEASE, PLEASE let me know.  I want to get these done and out so you all get them by Christmas. (Also, if you see any errors, please let me know ASAP, I tried to be careful and accurate.)

Thank you all so much for participating and for all your hard work in promoting this contest.

Congratulations to all of you, you are amazing!! Please give yourself a pat on the back.

I know there were some issues with the polling not working, but other than that, how do you think it went?  Would you like to see this become an annual event?

Happy Birthday

November 25, 2012 By Jodi

We had a great mini-vacation these past couple days.

I did a lot of shopping with my sister, which believe it or not is very unusual for me, because I typically don’t care for shopping.  Somehow when I get together with my sister, the urge to shop overtakes me.  Go figure.

Yesterday morning we got up and headed over to the local grocery store to pick up some food for the food pantry, after unpacking it, we headed to a local herb shop.  I swear I could have spent half the day there. 🙂

We went back to the house for lunch only to find that all the dogs were stuck in the house because the guys were taking down trees. 🙁

After lunch we ran out to the local co-op.  I was in a rush to get back to the house, so I could let the dogs out to run, but we were pleasantly surprised to find them all out and running about when we got home.

Bandit, my sister’s Jack-Rat. Don’t you love those ears?

Gordon, my sister’s Golden Retriever.

Delilah, Tyson, (a Bernese Mountain/Rottweiler/Pitbull mix,) he belongs to a friend of my sister and J.D. my sister’s Jack Russell.

Sampson. I like sticks.

There are some nice logging trails in the area and I wanted to take the dogs walking, but it’s hunting season and I forgot their vests. 🙁

So we walked around the property instead.

Gordy, J.D. and Delilah on our walk.

The dogs have had a great time, they spent a lot of time outdoors.

Delilah did especially well, for the most part she was off leash the entire weekend.

The weekend was extra special because today is my sister’s birthday and I got to wish her happy birthday in person.

Happy Birthday Laura, I enjoyed our time together this weekend.

What did you do?  Anything special?
