Along Came Sampson

May 3, 2012 By Jodi

A couple of you asked about the children’s book I wrote, the title is “Along Came Sampson.”

It is a basic children’s book, narrated by Sampson with actual pictures of him taken throughout the first year of his life.

Sampson…….not even a week old.

I came up with the idea when I was asked to bring a book to a baby shower and the book I had in mind was no longer in print.  I was between jobs and thought, what the heck, I’ll write my own.

I’ve had two different reviews made on the book, with the last one basically re-writing the entire book for me.  Once she was done hacking it I felt like it wasn’t mine any more.  Still I tried to find a literary agent to represent me and schlep my work off to publishing companies, but I was turned down by three different ones.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m not really good with being rejected and so I kind of stopped trying.  The whole intent of this blog was to promote my Along Came Sampson website and get people interested in Sampson and hearing more stories about him and Delilah.

The other thing you should know about me is technology does not come easy.  While I had someone help me design the website I’m not that great at updating and changing things so I basically pay for a website I neither update or promote.  Every month or so I go in and clean all the spam from the blog but that’s about it.

If you’d like to read the book it is up on the Along Came Sampson website under the tab “Sampson Says.”

After the second review I made her revisions and in order to make the book a little more appealing to an agent, I made it into a scrapbook.

The original book was targeted more for children and helping them learn the proper way to raise, train and treat a dog.

I was told, “There’s already training books out there, what makes yours so special?”

Sampson makes it special!

He is a beautiful dog, with a beautiful soul.

Who knows, maybe someday I’ll have the money to self-publish my book, or I’ll be such a famous blogger that I could write anything and people will buy it. 🙂

W.T.F. Wednesday

May 2, 2012 By Jodi

Warning, you are about to enter….the Potty Mouth zone.

Yes back by popular demand is W.T.F. Wednesday.  If you missed the first one, you can find it here.

These are my W.T.F.’s from this past week, brought to my attention via internet news sites, facebook or twitter.

Springfield Man Arrested For Stomping On Hawk  via Facebook

The police just happened to be cruising down the street when they slowed down to take a picture of a hawk feasting on its prey.  All of a sudden a man appeared and threw a log at the bird, then took a candlestick he was holding and hit the bird again.  The officers reacted but apparently not before the man had begun to stomp on the bird.

Now listen, I won’t lie to you, I’m not a bird lover myself …I don’t put birdseed out in my yard, but I do draw the line at stomping on birds.  Especially a Hawk.

I think that bird could F*ck. You. Up.

W.T.F. George McKenzie you are 64 f*cking years old, have you learned nothing in your life?  W.T.F. was running through your mind?  Did a hawk piss in your Cheerios or did you just get up on the wrong side of bed and think, “I’m gonna stomp on the first thing I see?”

You better hope that bird doesn’t get the word out to his support system, you won’t be able to walk down the street without a bird shitting on your head.

Oh and when you get out of jail, invest in some windshield washer fluid, I have a feeling you’re going to need it.

Seen on Twitter…..posted by PupFan

Saw woman playing w/phone & walking dog on Flexi leash. Dog almost got run over when he walked into an intersection. #wtf #irresponsible

W.T.F. irresponsible is right, PupFan.

Number one, doesn’t everyone know not to walk dogs on Flexi leashes?  Have you ever dropped one of those bad boys?  Yeah, they make a loud noise AND they chase your dog.

Which….yes, yes you know makes your dog run faster.

Number two, pay attention to your dog!  They are valuable and precious and bring so much joy. Put your phone down and enjoy your time together!

They are also a lot harder to walk after they’ve been hit by a f*cking car.

And Finally from our esteemed NFL players.

I know you’re wondering…..W.T.F. are NFL players doing on a dog blog.  I promise if you follow it through, you’ll see how it all makes sense.

The “Bounty” Scandal.

The way I understand it, some of the coaches and players of the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints participated in a bounty program.  The accusation is that  opposing players had ‘bounties’ on their heads and if you were the players that ‘took them out’ you won the pool because you ‘brought the pain.’

W. T. F.?

Siriously, New Orleans. W. T. F. ?

You thought it was ok to hurt Brett Favre and Kurt Warner but somehow no-one ever tossed Michael Fucking Vick’s name into the pool? W.T.F. is wrong with you?

Who do I talk to about rectifying this?  Does anyone tweet with Sean Payton? Does anyone know to to put a paypal widget on WP blog? 😉

These are the things that left me shaking my head and muttering…..W.T.F.  How about you, what made you say, “W.T.F.” this week?

It's Not All About Delilah

May 1, 2012 By Jodi

The tag line of my blog is, “Life With Sampson And Delilah….the 411.”

Sometimes I feel like it should be called “Life With Delilah,” because it seems I only blog about Delilah and the challenges she brings to the household.

Tonight I was struggling with a topic and decided to look through some pictures and see if I could come up with something to blog about.

When Sampson was a young puppy we got into the habit of hiking every weekend.  We have lots of trails in the area in which we live and Sampson absolutely loved exploring them.

At that time I already had the idea to write a children’s book about Sampson so I took lots of pictures.

Here are a few of my favorites.

He had run ahead of us on the trail and when we turned the corner, there he was resting on the rock.

Walking this trail is what made me fall in love with walking in the snow.   I love the play of sunlight and shadow in this photo.

When I first taught Sampson how to drink from my water bottle Hubby wasn’t very pleased. He quickly realized the benefit when we started hiking.

This photo was taken not far from where we currently live.  I loved this photo so much I had it blown up and framed. I love how they are both looking ahead, contemplating what the trail holds for them.

See….it’s not all about Delilah. 😉

How do you find a topic when you aren’t sure what to blog about?
