Follow-Up Friday, April 26, 2013

April 26, 2013 By Jodi

Welcome to the latest edition of co-hosted Follow-up Friday.

https://www.heartlikeadog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/follow-up-friday.jpg

I’m very pleased to introduce you to a new co-hostess this week.  We’ve been slowly getting to know one another by reading each others blogs.  What I’ve learned thus far is she lives in Wisconsin with her husband and her four fur babies, Norman, Nellie, Gambler and Glory.  She hunts with her dogs, (how cool is that?) she shows and hunt tests Gambler and Glory, and she’s recently been writing some beautiful posts about her late father.

Did you guess JoAnn Stancer from Sand Spring Chesapeakes?  If you didn’t, then please be sure to hop on over and get to know her.

And remember, co-hosting is easy, just ask JoAnn. I have co-hosts lined up for the next two weeks but after that I’ll be back to begging.

Black and White Sunday

As luck would have it, I can’t locate the original photo.  I know, I know, I just made it into black and white. But I can’t remember where I put it.

B and W Sunday 4-21-13 So here’s another one from the same photo shoot.

Pawm2 WM

This photo (and a number of others) were taken almost two years ago when I participated in a Back to School blog party hosted by Frankie Furter.   Our ‘session’ in the hop was Prom Etiquette.  I know, can you imagine Delilah teaching etiquette to anyone?

I didn’t think so.

A couple of you asked if Sampson was wearing a tie, as you can see in the color photo, yes he was.

This Dog will be the Death of me.

Honestly either Delilah will kill me either by giving me a heart attack or making me fall on the trail.  The other scenario which I am constantly worried about is that one of these days she will eat something that will kill her.

As it turns out, she came through this scare with flying colors.  Not without a few tense days on my part. Hubby figured out who sent the packing peanuts so I placed a frantic call and was advised the majority of them were made from potato starch.  (No wonder she was desperate to eat them.)

I never liked packing peanuts because of the mess, although with a dog like Delilah…

When Hubby announced at 6:00 am Tuesday morning that she’d taken a big dump, I shot out of bed like a cannon. She DID?

Poor Delilah couldn’t figure out what I was so excited about.

Gizmo said, “I hope everything “comes out” OK “in the end” (humor helps, right?)”  Yes it does.  Although I don’t think I laughed much that first day.

Leslie said, “Oh man, dogs are good at providing us with gray hair, aren’t they?”  You don’t know the half of it Leslie, between the kids and Delilah I’m just about completely gray.

ACD6Pak said, “I’m thinking that you’ll be out there in the dark with a flashlight won’t you?” Damn straight I was! Followed her around like I was a lovestruck school girl.  I think I scared her.

Tracking Spring

IMG_4722 Here is my latest photo, taken yesterday afternoon.

I thought I should throw in a picture of the bush in my back yard.

Vermont Soap Giveaway

Shannon said, “I wonder if it would help with Rogue’s allergy itchies?”

My contact at Vermont Soap said, “This shampoo will help. We just released a new Hot Spot Oil for pets as well. It is designed to treat irritated itchy spots on pets. Try it out, I think your dog will be very happy!”

There you have it, straight from the expert. 😀

This ‘N That Thursday

Most of you can relate to this issue and I’ll tell you the truth.  When we walk in the woods if the dogs go way off trail, I don’t usually follow them in to pick it up.

I heard that.

When they poop in the field I always pick it up.  When they poop on the trails, I usually pick it up, but if I’m really lazy I flick it off to the side.

2 Brown Dawgs said, “We did talk poop on FB didn’t we? It was there for all our friends to see. :)” LOL yes, yes we did.  In fact, I think I even said “I can’t believe we’re talking poop on facebook.” 😀

Emma said, “We only poop on walks, we learn no pooping in the yard as puppies.” I was wondering why that is?  And what happens if your human is really sick and can’t take you for a walk?  Where do you go?

Thanks for joining JoAnn and I for Follow-up Friday.  Have a great weekend.

This is the Follow-up Friday blog hop, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

Tracking Spring

April 23, 2013 By Jodi

Isn’t it strange how we never really notice the leaves on the trees? I asked Hubby the other day.  I mean, you see the little buds one day and the next thing you know, Shazam, there are leaves on the trees.

Sure enough a couple of days later I’m driving down my street and I notice some trees have their leaves!

When the hell did that happen? I thought.

I better start paying attention I told myself, otherwise I’m going to miss this amazing transformation entirely.

I made sure to be observant as I walked the dogs on Sunday.

Yellow Flowers

The first thing I noticed was the little yellow flowers. I don’t know what they are called, I’m pretty sure they’re not Forsythia.

Trees

I also noticed a few trees on the edge of the field were beginning to sprout, but I avoided the area because last week when we walked over there, the bumble bees were out in force.  While I’ve been told they don’t sting as aggressively or hurt as much as yellow jackets, I prefer not to find that out for myself.

Sunday Sunday

I scoured the woods on our walk searching for a tree with buds and finally right near the top of the trail I spied it!

Monday Monday

I decided I’m tracking spring this year.  I took a picture of the bud on Sunday and then another one yesterday.  This year I’m not going to miss this beautiful transformation.

Delilah here:  This shit’s lame, I can’t believe she’s resorted to writing this dribble.  I mean really, dogs pay attention to these things without having to be told.  Do you not understand the beauty of this world we live in, are your lives so busy that you really need to be reminded to enjoy the beauty around you?

This is spring people, spring!  The time when the world wakes up from its winter nap, when everything is fresh and new, go out and use your nose!  Smell the air, smell the flowers, take some time to enjoy the rebirth of the land.

Now please excuse me, I have some Pee-Mail that requires my attention.

Peace out.

This Dog Will Be the Death of Me

April 22, 2013 By Jodi

If she doesn’t kill me on the trail, she’ll frighten me to death.

Let me start by saying as far as I can tell, Delilah is okay.

If you’re my friend on facebook, you already know what happened.  If you’re not, what are you waiting for?

I came home after a four hour break yesterday to find a shredded plastic bag on the floor.

Nothing new.  I picked up the remnants and looked at the bag thinking, what the hell was in that?

IMG_4694

I looked around, couldn’t figure it out and went about the rest of my day.

When Hubby came home I said, do you know what the hell was in this bag?

Nope.

He looked around and exclaimed, Packing Peanuts!

Holy shit. Are you kidding me? (I lied, I actually cussed a lot more than that.  What can I say?  I could make a sailor blush.)

We searched every room in the house but not a trace of packing peanuts did we find.  Hubby went out to the trash, no peanuts.

There’s only one conclusion.

Delilah ate about three to four cups of packing peanuts.

I about lost my shit.  I im’d Jodi Chick who said, Keep an eye on her. If she stops eating/pooping or if she vomits, you need to worry.  Hopefully, you’ll see a whole lot of packing peanuts come out the other end, but if you don’t? Worry.

I called the vet’s office to get the number for the emergency vet and thankfully the vets in my office are available by phone before 9:00 pm.  As luck would have it, I pulled my vet who called me back within two minutes.

She felt it was probably cornstarch peanuts and that Delilah would be okay, but recommended no food.

Well that’s not going to go over well I said.

Then just give her a small handful, if she vomits during the night you need to bring her to the emergency vet, but if she doesn’t then she can resume regular meals tomorrow.

Then I sent a text to Jenny Jugs, who assured me she’d probably be fine, but to watch her.

Do you see how I roll?

Flash forward an hour, we’re sitting watch TV and Hubby says, what if it was him?  What if he’s been doing it all along and we’ve been blaming her?

So neither dog got a full dinner.

IMG_4613 You’re such a drama queen, it was just a little bag of peanuts. Before you were allergic to them, you loved them too.

Thanks Delilah and my gray hair and shortened lifespan thanks you too.

Update:  Despite not having a full meal, both dogs did very well last night.  After waiting a couple of minutes for the second course they both went and settled down.  I held off on their filled bone snack until almost 10:00 pm.  They went out for the night but she didn’t poop.

I’m exhausted, when I slept it was with one eye and one ear open, but both dogs (and Hubby) slept comfortably through the night.

This morning she had a tiny movement which looked okay to me.  They had their normal breakfast although I refrained from giving them their garlic tablets as I was afraid it might make her gassy.  I plan on going home at lunch for our walk and have asked my mom to check in on them if she hears anything unusual.

Delilah seemed her normal self this morning, scrounging around for food and I even caught her grazing at wood chips.

What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger right?

This is the Monday Mischief Blog hop hosted by Alfie’s Blog, Snoopy’s Dog Blog and My Brown Newfies.
