BlogPaws Part 1

May 22, 2013 By Jodi

As I mentioned in Monday’s post, my mind is twirling with all kinds of things I want to share with you about this past weekend.

I’ll start with bloggers I met.

It started at Washington National airport when the shuttle driver called my name.  I looked up to find a woman smiling at me.  When I approached she asked if I was going to BlogPaws and I said, yes how did you know?  She had noticed Sampson’s face on my shirt.

Well I had met my very first cat blogger, Bernadette Kazmarski from The Creative Cat. We climbed into the backseat of the shuttle and chatted our way to the hotel.  What a super nice lady!

After I checked in and dropped my stuff in my room I headed down to the lobby, and found the Jones Natural Chews booth.  I said, “Hi” to Flea.

Before I knew it, a woman standing next to me said, “Jodi!” and pulled me into a bear hug.  It was Sugar’s mom. Seriously love this lady and I enjoyed spending time with her and getting to know her on a personal level and to learn more about her and Sugar and yes, I referred to her as Sugar’s mom on more than one occasion.  I was lucky enough to have breakfast with her and Kim from Golden Pines on Sunday morning before we began the trip home. (Since neither of these ladies put their photos on their blogs, our photo will remain private and just between the three of us.  Hang tight ladies, I hope to get around to it this weekend.)

I was hanging out in the lobby with Jodi Chick from Kol’s Notes, and Mrs. Taleteller from Tales and Tails when I started getting text bombed by Kari from Hound Girl and Jen from My Brown Newfies. “I see you” their texts said, but I couldn’t see them, finally Jen came up and introduced herself and pointed out their hiding place. My time with them was limited, but I did get some time Friday night to hang with them after dinner, had a quick lunch with them on Saturday and hung with Jenny Juggs a little bit Saturday night after the party was over. (Best after party ever! But that’s for another post.)

Checked my phone and I had a missed call from Pup Fan! I called her back immediately and turns out we were probably standing only a few feet from each other when she called.

Things kind of became a blur with all of the wonderful bloggers I met, so in no particular order here goes.

Elyse from Adventures of a Cattle Dog

Jessica from You Did What with Your Wiener

Pascale Lemire from Dog Shaming

Caren Gittleman from Dakota’s Den

Lynda from Two Ears and a Tail

Pamela Douglas Webster (and her husband, Mike) from Something Wagging This Way Comes

Dawn Miklitch from NEPA Pets

Emma’s mom from MY GBGV Life

Kristen from Cokie the Cat

Friday night as we were getting our party together to go out to dinner my phone rang and it was Kirsten from Peaceful Dog.  She was in the parking lot of the hotel!  In the whirlwind of the conference I lost my mind a bit and forgot a couple of things (one being Kirsten meeting up with us and the other being the mandatory speaker meeting.)

It was a pleasure to have her join us for dinner and she is just as warm and down to earth in person as she is on her blog.

Kirsten from Peaceful Dog.
Jen from M Brown Newfies
Jodi Chick from Kol’s Notes

Kristen and Cokie
Mrs. Taleteller
Pamela Douglas Webster

Pup Fan

Most of these photos were taken Saturday night at the Awards Party, I thought I’d had a few too many Margaritas (because everyone was so blurry) but it turns out my glasses were just really dirty.  Please forgive the glare. 😀

Oh and I met Vinny the Pug’s dad Sunday morning at breakfast!

If I met you and forgot to include you in this post, please don’t be offended.  My head was literally spinning.

The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men

May 20, 2013 By Jodi

We have something called ‘team-meetings’ at work. They were actually my idea and I hate them.

Initially they were designed to gather the office together and see where people were in regards to particular projects. The idea as originally intended, was to have weekly meetings of approximately 15 to 20 minutes to help keep all projects moving forward.

Well as the saying goes, “The best laid plans of mice and men.”

I can never quite pin my boss down to a small weekly meeting, what happens is he goes weeks and sometimes even months without ever having a meeting and then we have one long, boring meeting where he regurgitates everything he’s been holding in his gray matter since the last meeting.

That’s how I feel today. I have so many thoughts and experiences to share from this past weekend that I feel like my brain needs to regurgitate.

Since I can’t regurgitate my brain (and actually I’m quite thankful for that) I need to sit down and come up with a game plan as to how I’m going to share this past weekend with all of you who couldn’t attend.

CONGRATULATIONS are in order

I’d like to start with a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Kol’s Note’s, Jodi Chick for winning the award for Best Bark Blog, this is one awesome lady, great mentor and friend and truly deserving of this award.

CONGRATULATIONS also go out to Mrs.Taleteller from Tales and Tails, she won the Best Photo award for a beautiful photo of Miss Bunny incognito.  I had a grand time with Mrs. Taleteller and I can tell you I imagine I could get up to some mischief with that one.

For those who wondered how my presentation went, I’d say it was okay.  I’ve asked for some feedback from BlogPaws from the folks who actually attended and will let you know how it went.  I also intend to share the entire presentation here  and BlogPaws did record all sessions so hopefully you can check it out if you’re interested.

Hubby drove down Saturday to pick me up and we had a gruesome ride home yesterday.  A trip that should normally take 5 1/2 to 6 hours took us closer to 8 and by the time I got in, all I wanted to do was snuggle the pups.  I should have been working on this post while we were driving home but I was having some fun tweeting and treating and did not.

I promise to work on a post to tell you all about the awesome Blogging Rock Stars I met, and the fun things I won and brought home with me and the great things I learned.  But until then, indulge me just a little while I try to re-cooperate from an incredibly, awesome weekend.

The best laid plans of mice and men, does that mean there is a mouse? Are they tasty?

Day Seventy Six – New Toys

February 14, 2011 By Jodi

When I went to the Pet Writing Conference I took a seminar on blogging from a really awesome group of people from blogpaws and I learned a few things.

Headers and bullet points:

Use headers and bullet points to help different topics or paragraphs in your blog standout.  You do this in order for people to skim quickly through your blog and find the items or topics that are of importance to them.

Speaking of the conference:

We got some goodie bags at the conference and since Hartz was one of the sponsors my bag had two items from Hartz in it; a ball and a chew toy that helps keep the dog’s teeth clean.

Chew Toy, Football

The chew toy and the football

I gave the ball to Delilah,

Delilah Loves the Ball

Delilah and her squeaky ball

Lesson one; always give the first toy to Delilah, at least then Sampson has a chance! 🙂

The ball was a big hit; both dogs love the squeaky toys.  They take the ball and run through the house….squeak, squeak, squeak.

Then I gave the bone to Sampson…

Sampson and the chew bone

Sampson loved the chew bone…until Delilah took it away, now they are sharing it but I will go to the store tomorrow to see if I can find another one.

Both of the toys are very sturdy and durable, and I do recommend them if you are looking for some toys or chewing items for your dog.
