Sometimes It’s Not the Dog

October 12, 2016 By Jodi

Last week I told you how Delilah ate the Play-Doh. That very same day, I discovered the wax.

The wax that belongs in my Scentsy warmer.

So, I went to change the wax in the warmer last week and discovered this.

“Where is all the wax?” I asked. Then I saw it all over the shelf.

Scentsy Wax

“What happened to the wax?”

I looked down at the D-Dog and her look said, “Don’t ask me, must have been that I Don’t Know kid.”

“Did you eat the fucking wax?” I asked her.

“Not me” said her look and then she went over and plopped herself down on her bed.

I followed her over and asked her again, “Did you eat the wax?”

No response, just that long sad face that said, “You always think the worst of me, don’t you?”

I grabbed a new block of wax, walked back over to her and held it out, “You want to eat this one too?”

She took a sniff and turned her nose up. “Not gonna happen.”

I moved the warmer to the mantle, put a new block of wax in and took Sampson for a walk.

Why didn’t I notice the pomegranate smell on her breath, I wondered.

Later as I was writing the Play-Doh post, I was telling Hubby the story, and the truth came out. It wasn’t actually the D-Dog that did it. It was the Hubby. He was looking for something the night before and accidentally knocked the warmer and the wax splashed out. He cleaned up what he could and was waiting until he came home the next day, to finish cleaning it up.

Sometimes, it’s not the dog.

And sometimes, an apology is in order...well...I'm waiting.

You’re always quick to think the worst of me, but not as quick with the apologies.

You Make Me Laugh – October 9, 2016

October 9, 2016 By Jodi

You make me laugh, (or smile), the sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do on a daily basis, that brings a smile to my face, or a laugh to my lips.

Sampson, the way you get so excited when you see “someone”, and then get SO disappointed when you realize “who” you’ve seen…

Golden Lab and Scarecrow

You make me laugh.

This happened last week. The day before we’d seen the neighbor out decorating her house for Halloween. The next day, Sampson was walking up the hill and his body language told me he saw someone. When I looked ahead, I knew right away what it was. But he didn’t.

When he got to the house, he realized it wasn’t a person after all.

Have your dogs ever mistaken something for someone?

The Dog Ate the Play-Doh, But Left the Cheese

October 5, 2016 By Jodi

Delilah’s a lunatic.

You really wanna go there Mama?

Name calling. Really Mama?

Some days I laugh on the spot at her lunacy and other days…well other days, I have to wait to laugh, or at least wait until after I’ve spoken to the vet to be sure she’s going to be okay.

Last week I picked the grandkids up from school and brought them to my house. The Boy promptly went downstairs to get away from his sister, while the Girl, stayed upstairs with me.

Like most good Grandma’s, I have some books and toys set aside for them. The Girl went digging about and came up with a small Play-Doh set. “Can I play with this?” she asked, holding it up to show me.

“Of course you can.” I replied and set her up on top of the pool table with her new found treasure. It had been a while since anyone had played with it, and the Play-Doh was quite hard. I tried warming it up a bit and manipulating it with my hands so she could at least make a few cutouts.

After a short time, she decided she was done with the Play-Doh and went off to do something else. I was looking for a show for her to watch on TV, when I heard a slurping noise.

“Shit!” I screamed. The Girl looked at me (thankfully she didn’t ask me what shit meant, although on Saturday she did ask about bad ass, but that’s another story.)

“What?” she asked, without looking away from the TV.

“Delilah ate the Play-Doh. Time to call the vet.”

Thankfully, Play-Doh is non-toxic. A bunch of dogs or kids must have ingested a lot of Play-Doh, because Play-Doh (thankfully) spells that shit out right on the box. “NON-TOXIC.” (BTW, I discovered that while I was ON the phone with the vet’s office.)

The vet thought there might be a high salt content in the Play-Doh, and that Delilah might be thirsty later on, a fact I reminded her of as she was slurping up an entire bowl of water later that evening.

As I was cleaning up from dinner, I went around the back side of the breakfast bar and found some hard, dry cheese that was somehow missed in the cleanup from Mom’s birthday dinner.

Yeah, the dog ate the Play-Doh, but left the cheese.

Go figure.
