There’s a Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road

September 20, 2017 By Jodi

Did you ever sing that song when you were a kid? It was something we sang when we had at least three kids to ‘play it.’

Never heard of it? It starts like this…

Kid 1 – “There’s a dead skunk in the middle of the road, I one it.”

Kid 2 – “I two it.”

Kid 3 – “I three it.”

Kid 1 – “I four it.”

Kid 2 – “I five it.”

Kid 3 – “I six it.”

Kid 1 – “I seven it.”

Kid 2-

Well if you were ever the kid who ‘eight’ it, you quickly learned to say, “I jumped over the fence and (insert name of one of the other kids who were singing) eight it.

Why? Why am I remembering this now?

Well because there was a dead skunk in the middle of the road one Friday night.

It was really almost on the center line.  I saw it on my way home from girl’s night, and I thought how grateful I was that it was so close to the centerline, so I didn’t hit it, or have to swerve to miss it, or worse yet, run through it.

In fact, the next morning when I drove past it again, it was still intact near the centerline.

Sadly when I drove through later in the afternoon, the skunk had been flattened. Why? It was close to the centerline, someone had to either not be paying attention, and drifted close to the line, or they deliberately smushed it. Again, why?

Evidently, Grandma couldn’t avoid it on her way through, because both the dogs got a little wild when they got near Grandma’s car.  In fact, they both gave it a thorough sniffing.

What is this weird smell?

She sniffed it here.

I think there’s something under here.

And here.

Funny, I can’t see anything, but I can sure smell something.

And here.

Gives an entirely new meaning to odor recognition.

You Make Me Smile – September 17, 2017

September 17, 2017 By Jodi

You make me smile, the sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do on a daily basis, that brings a smile to my face, or a laugh to my lips.

This little gal, this little gal makes me smile.

Holla’ Mama, what’d I do this time?

On our afternoon walk, we always pass this little grassy spot. It’s on the corner between two houses, and there is a fire hydrant on the patch of grass, a boulder and a large bush.

“Our” grassy area.

Most of the time we approach this area coming down the hill, so the area is on our left. (In this photo however, I turned around to snap the photo.)

As we approach, we encounter the hydrant first (because it’s in front of the bush) and we have to go beyond the bush to check out the entire area.

One day, Delilah stopped and stood perfectly still, staring. Since I’m typically behind her, and lost in my thoughts, it took a second to register.

Then I had to look too.

If you look close at the photo, you can see it way in the back.

Here it is, up close.

Peter Cottontail.

The first time, the rabbit didn’t move away very quickly, and so now, every time we approach this spot, Delilah looks for the bunny.

And that makes me smile.

Do you ever encounter animals on your walks? How does your dog react?

Pet Blogger Showcase – September 16, 2017

September 16, 2017 By Jodi

Hey there, I hope you all had a happy and peaceful Labor Day weekend. I don’t know about you all, but I’m currently thinking of running for Congress and the first bill I will introduce is for mandatory three-day weekends. Are you with me? 😉

Honestly, I really do feel like three day weekends are needed. I can get stuff done, and still feel like I have some down time, you know what I mean? Most two-day weekends I spend doing errands and household chores and then I’m right back at work on Monday.

But you didn’t come here for that did you? No, you came for the Showcase, so let’s get to it, shall we?

Sully or Junior? I still don’t know. 🙂 Photo courtesy of Big Dog Mom.

The Ultimate Guide To Cutting Dog Nails And Having Them Love You For It – by Big Dog Mom at Big Dog Mom: So…confession time. I know Sampson’s nails (at least a couple of them) are too long.  I also suspect they are causing him discomfort.  I started trying to use the Dremel on him, but I was never quite sure how frequently I could use it.  Luckily for me, Big Dog Mom has my back, and yours as well. So…if you’re struggling with trimming, or dremeling your dog’s nails, check out this post. She also has some really neat videos to help guide you.

I don’t know this little cutie’s name, but she sure is cute! Photo courtesy of 15 and Meowing.

Selfie Sunday by Ellen Pilch at 15 And Meowing: Boy did I laugh at this one. Sometimes we have silly conversations in my house, and when we do, I like to post them on Facebook.  (I know, it’s a good thing Hubby doesn’t have Facebook or read this blog!) Sometimes silly things happen too, but unless they involve the dogs, I don’t post about. BUT, if the dogs got their way, or wrote this blog, I’m sure they’d out me, just like the kitty outed her Mama on this post. FYI, I did the same thing to Hubby that the Kitty Mama did to the Kitty Daddy. That’s all I’m going to tell you, go read it yourself. 🙂

Look how much fun this Collie is having. Photo courtesy of All Things Collie.

The Versatile Collie – the Collie in Agility by Kathleen at All Things Collie: A number of years ago, Delilah and I did drop in agility, and it was SO fun. (Below is one of our agility run’s to show you how much fun it really was!) Agility is definitely fun, and having a good dog that gets you and follows what you’re leading with will definitely help.  Kathleen has been running a number of posts showcasing collies, and how versatile they are to many different sports/abilities. I have really enjoyed her series, and I hope you do as well.
