When the Universe Smacks You Upside Your Head

July 29, 2013 By Jodi

Sometimes when you have the best of intentions and think you are prepared for whatever comes your way, the universe seems to have a different idea for you.

Friday night after I had finished packing everything for our trip, I sat down to get my Candy Crack fix and my laptop wouldn’t turn on.  I checked the plug and the grounding prong had broken off. Drats!  Well Hubby will know what to do when he gets up I thought, and took out the little Chromebook I won at Blog Paws.  Thank you very much by the way, BP!

When Hubby woke up he said, “Babe, it’s fried.”

“But you can fix it, right?  I mean we just need to find a Best Buy and buy a new charging plug.”

“I think it’s the laptop and not the power cord, because the laptop should try and turn on but you’re getting nothing.”

I took a deep breath, it’ll be okay.  I have the Chromebook, my mini iPad, my camera and my phone.  I’ll make this work.

About half way to our destination I took out my camera to take a photo, as I snapped the picture the low battery symbol flashed and I realized with a sick jolt to my stomach, the charger was at home!

Well turns out you can find a cheap ($10) charger on Amazon BUT buying a universal charger at Wal-Mart is $30.  My little point and shoot camera is 7 or 8 years old, and I’m not spending $30 for a charger I have at home.

I took a deep breath, it’s okay, I have my Chromebook, my iPad and my phone.  Except the iPad and the phone don’t connect to the Chromebook so any pictures I take have to be e-mailed to myself and downloaded (which I haven’t figured out yet) so right now the pictures you’re getting are taken with the Chromebook.

I figured you won’t care, because they’re still beautiful pictures.

Last night's sunset.

Last night’s sunset.

Sampson Why are you looking at me?  You should be looking at the beautiful view.

Sitting enjoying the morning view, I’ve decided I’m going to try and listen to the Universe and take it easy. Maybe read some blogs this afternoon or work on my book.  But this morning, I’m going to take the dogs for a nice walk in the country and just enjoy the beauty of nature.

Are you in tune with the Universe or does she have to slap you upside your head like she does me?

You Make Me Laugh – July 28, 2013

July 28, 2013 By Jodi

One of the big reasons I started this blog was for all the crazy, funny things my dogs do that bring a smile to my face or a laugh to my lips.

Sometimes it’s not easy to write a full blog post about it and sometimes I forget to share.

Some posts will be You Make Me Laugh and others will be You Make Me Smile, but they will all be the silly, sweet, funny things Sampson and Delilah do that help make crazy days just a little bit easier.

Feel free to share what your pet does to make you laugh/smile in the comments.

Sampson and Delilah, the way you run down to bark at the horses when they snort, it makes me laugh.

How do your dogs react when confronted with an animal they haven’t seen before?

If you follow us on Instagram you know we’ve been traveling this weekend, we’ll be sharing lots of pictures this week.  If you don’t, what are you waiting for? We’re HeartLikeaDog

Follow-Up Friday – July 26, 2013

July 26, 2013 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday.

https://www.heartlikeadog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/follow-up-friday.jpg

My co-hostess this week is mom to fur-kids Callie, Shadow and the little Demon Dog, Ducky her little shelter dog.  She’s in process of becoming a certified dog trainer and considering the stories she tells about Ducky, I suspect she has her work cut out for her.  I also suspect, this sweet woman is up for the challenge.

Please welcome Sue, from The Golden Life!  Thanks for co-hosting with me Sue.

Delilah – You Make Me Laugh

Cupcake said, “I love to dive head first into goose poop and roll around on it. And if Mom isn’t looking, I eat some….”

Cupcake, YOU make me laugh.

JoAnn asked, “Was this a clean roll or a smelly roll?”

Well there was nothing I could see, I have a feeling it might have been fresh-cut grass, but I take no chances.  She got washed when she got home. 😀

2 Brown Dawgs asked, “Wonder what good smell makes her roll?”

No idea.  She goes in with a purpose though.  Her nose is to the ground and when she finds the smell, she goes for it!

Some of Them Just Touch Your Heart

Finding out that Moo Shu made it out of the pound was made a million times better by your comments.  The fact that YOU were all so happy to hear the news, just made my joy that much greater.

Thank you for being such wonderful friends.

Jan said, “Finding out that seemingly unadoptable dogs have found good homes convinces me that we are on our way to a No Kill nation.”

From your lips Jan. Paws crossed.

I’ve Got Something In My Pocket

I hate that the pounds only give the dogs limited time.  I do know there are rescues who work with the pounds to get the dogs out, but I still hate the fact that some may not make it out.    What I really hate is how this country has become one of exploitation.

People exploit animals, themselves and their own kids.  It gives me little hope for the human race and it saddens me that it is so accepted in this country.

Jan said, “$5.00 for non residents? Do they want her to be adopted out of state or is that a typo?”

Not on my part Jan, I actually looked twice.  I’m wondering why the higher cost for residents, generally most fees tend towards less for residents and more for non-residents.

Cupcake said, “How can time run out???”

I know, it’s so sad.

Pamela asked, “Does your husband know you’d consider dogs in lieu of rent?”

He knows I would consider it.  He however does not agree.  He says me taking a dog in lieu of rent is tantamount to him taking sex in lieu of rent.

Funny how minds differ no?  I somehow think they are two entirely different concepts.

Jan K asked, “Do none of the dogs in that pound have names? Is there a reason for that?”

I did not see a name listed for her.  I don’t work directly with this pound so I’m not sure on their philosophy, I can only speak for myself and what I’m thinking is, it is far easier to put down a dog with no name.

I hate that I just typed that.

Gizmo asked, “I find it interesting that your tenant ID’d her as a mini bulldog…have you asked her if that was because they were afraid you wouldn’t accept a pittie?”

I never asked her, but I’m guessing that was it.

We Wait With Bated Breath

I’ve got nothing against the royal baby.  I like babies, really I do.  What I have a problem with is reporters and their propensity to hound people beyond reason.  Can’t she push a baby out, with people standing in front of the hospital screaming “Push it out, push it out, way out!”

Pamela said, “You realize the fox was hoping you’d run out of the house in your underwear so he could get a picture of you for *his* blog, right?”

Are you saying that maybe I already follow him? 😉

Jen said, “Now you know that the fox will probably never return because you have the camera sitting on the window sill waiting for him, right? Happens to me all of the time!”

Um Jen?  You have the most amazing pictures on your blog.  I have no idea of what you speak.

Sherri asked, ” Locally, I hear people say “they high-tailed it out of here.” WTH does that mean?”

My thoughts?  When deer take off their tails are high.  So they ‘high-tailed’ it out.

Some sayings I get more than others, but bated breath?  Um not so much.

Emma said, “Sounds like you have been outfoxed…how about that saying???”

Oh Emma, YOU make me laugh.

There’s a Big Bird in Our Woods

Callie, Shadow and Ducky’s Mom asked, “So tell me, did you bring him home, clean him up, and give him back to Sampson; OR, did you just dump poor Big Bird in the trash can on your way out of the park?”

I did neither.  Hey, I have no idea where that bird has been!  Besides, don’t you think I raise enough eye brows looking like this?

Imagine the looks if I were wandering the woods with a stuffed Big Bird.

Yeah, they’d be calling the crisis line for sure.

I have to thank Flea for the inspiration for Wednesday’s and Thursday’s posts.  I sat with a bit of a writer’s block and threw it out on Facebook and Flea threw it right back at me.  She’s totally awesome. 😀
