You Make Me Smile – May 15, 2016

May 15, 2016 By Jodi

You make me smile (or laugh), the sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do on a daily basis, that brings a smile to my face or a laugh to my lips.

The other day when I got home from work Delilah indicated she wanted to go outside. Typically when she does this, she goes out, does her business and comes right back in. So I was surprised when I looked outside and caught her doing this.

Sorry for the mess, the trees are dropping bud like crazy.

Sorry for the mess, the trees are dropping bud like crazy.

Sampson is usually the dog that enjoys laying out and soaking up the sun, so I was taken aback that she was out there.

I....wanna soak up the sun.

I….wanna soak up the sun.

She really seemed to be enjoying it too.

Looking out at her just flat out relaxed like that, really made me smile.

What do your pets do that make you smile?

Follow-Up Friday – May 13, 2016

May 13, 2016 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the post where I highlight reader’s comments, answer questions and generally, just wrap up my week.

You Make Me Smile – May 8, 2016

Canine Peek-a-Boo

Emma said, “We know everything. We can tell by the sound of the clothes if it is a running or walking morning.”

You guys are so smart! Sampson is very in tune with that too. He knows what time we usually walk and he watches me, and when I go to change, he follows me. IF I sneak one past him, as soon as he sees my walking pants, he perks right up.

Callie, Shadow and Ducky’s mom said, “It’s so sad when they start to have age-related separation issues. It tears at your heart to have to leave them. In Shadow’s case, it’s not having Callie around to keep her company when we have to leave her. She has been MY shadow since Callie got her wings. I can’t go from one room of the house to another without her joining me (unless she’s sound asleep) most days. I guess she’s afraid of losing me, too.”

It is sad and it’s so hard. He’s given me so much and I just want to make sure he’s comfortable, but there is only so much I can do. Poor Shadow, we at least have each other to talk to, how do they process their grief? Because as you know, they grieve too.

Julie said, “Cocoa gives me the look for sure. And she gets in her crate long before she has to and looks at me with the saddest hound dog face.”

They KNOW just how to work that face too. 🙂

Jan K said, “It’s hard enough to leave them, but when they look like that! Luke follows me around as well, but Cricket hangs close to the kitchen, since she knows they’ll get a treat when I leave!”

That’s Delilah! LOL She could give two shits less if you leave, as long as you give her a cookie.

Taryn said, “After they are positive that we won’t invite them along, they dash upstairs to the front bedroom and watch us leave. After that I’m pretty sure they have a pillow fight based on the way all the bed pillows are on the floor when we get home!”

OH MY. Mine have never done THAT, but there are times where it looks like someone had a wild time in the bed. 😉

Lauranne said, “I don’t know if I could ever leave him if he looked at me like that.”

It is so DAMN hard. I wish I could work from home or at the very least, bring him with me.

Monika and Sam said, “Sam acts much like my kids did when they were dropped off at daycare. Heartbroken for about 87 seconds, then it’s run around and then ‘pawty’ like it’s 1999.”

Bah ha ha, sweet, sweet Sam!

A Little Slice of Heaven

Golden rays guide my way

DZDog Mom said, “I’m so tired from moving this weekend I’m having trouble getting motivated to go do something. This helps. ❤”

I’m glad, it’s one of my ‘happy’ places. I hope you have some time to relax now!

Cupcake said, “That does look (and sound) heavenly. Our slice of heaven is a little more city-fied, but heavenly nonetheless.”

All you have to do is look, you can find beauty anywhere!

Emma said, “We love to see the sun come up, hear the birds, not see another soul out. It really sets the tone for the entire day!”

It sure does. When you start a day with that much beauty, how can you not have an amazing day?

Beth said, “I totally get it. There are plenty of evenings when I leave the house thinking, “Just a quick loop around the neighborhood” and then I look west and see the sun setting over Lake Erie and our quick loop turns into a leisurely two miles. Glad you have such a lovely way to start the day.”

Nature is the food that feeds the soul. At least for me, I bet I’d be following that sunset too. 🙂

Hailey and Zaphod said, “As we live in the foothills in the country, most of our days start like this. It is wonderful.”

Oh that sounds heavenly.

Alexa88 said, “i picked some pretty roadside flowers to put in a jar. they are yellow and seeing them on the kitchen counter is like abit of sunshine. im very thankful that all we been getting is rain without the thunderstorm type of rain.”

I love flowers, and they sure brighten a room. I’m with you, thankful that all the rain is just rain with no noise.

Misty Shores Chesapeakes said, “Mine would be any walk in the mountains 🙂”

I’m sure it’s beautiful!

Frankly, We’re Woofing for Jones

You're no HERO! You defiled a treat! WHAT is WRONG with you?

You’re no HERO! You defiled a treat! WHAT is WRONG with you?

Misty Shores Chesapeakes said, “toe cough er alls… That’s the best I could break it down.

Wow, look at you! 🙂 Thank you!!

Cupcake said, “My favorite treat right now is freeze dried chicken – one ingredient treat.”

THAT is a very good treat! I bet you get lots of them.

Emma said, “We are huge Frankenwoofer fans! They are awesome. Thankfully my mom didn’t try to “short” us out of the weiner portion like you did 😉”

Bah ha ha!

Beth said, “Barley would probably love these–her big treats are very limited because she gets SO MANY tiny treats for training throughout the day, so I love that you were able to cut up the ends and make them multi-purpose treats!”

My guys get a lot of treats throughout the day too, and we give them treats when we are eating dinner, which is why it’s so important to me that these treats can be modified.

Jan said, “You have captured the many moods of treat eating.”

Ha ha ha. Delilah only knows one mood. 😉

Jan K said, “That certainly sounds like a treat that can’t be beat. I’m hearing grumblings from the crew now because they feel deprived that they haven’t gotten to try these yet!”

I forgot to mention, they come two in a package. 🙂

I did want to say at first I was concerned that the patty would be too hard, and someone would break a tooth on them, but that is NOT the case at all. The patty crunched up very nicely and as I noted, they both licked the floor. 🙂

Well that’s it for me folks, have a fantastic weekend!

Frankly, We’re Woofing for Jones

May 12, 2016 By Jodi

I look for many things when it comes to treats for my dogs.

  • Where it’s made
  • How many ingredients are in it
  • WHAT the ingredients are
  • Who makes it.

Believe it or not, those things are all factors. I could find a treat that’s made in the US, has two limited ingredients such as duck and pea flour and if it’s manufactured by a company I don’t trust, I will pass that treat up.

Oh yes I will.

Luckily for me, Jones Natural Chews meets all the requirements I look for in a treat.

So when my friend Flea asked me to review Jones’ new treat, the Frankenwoofer, I jumped at the chance. First because it’s made right here in the good ole’ US of A. Second because Jones’ is a family owned and operated business. And third because I can pronounce all the ingredients in this treat. (Except for  tocopherols…does ANYONE know how to pronounce tocopherols? If so,  please spell it out for me in the comments.)

Here’s what the treat looks like.

It's a hot...it's a burger! No, it's Jones' Natural Chews Frankenwoofer.

It’s a hotdog…it’s a burger! No, it’s Jones’ Natural Chews Frankenwoofer.

Basically it’s a beef patty wrapped around a Rocky’s Roller and baked. It’s doggie Nirvana.

And here are the ingredients: Beef Woofer 100% beef; Chicken Sausage (a.k.a. Rocky’s Rollers) – chicken, rye flour, glycerin, brown sugar, salt, liquid smoke flavoring, natural mixed tocopherols (preservative), rosemary extract in a collagen casing.

One of the things I love is the total versatility of this treat.

I mean, as far as treats go, it stands alone. It’s a ‘hot dog’ and a ‘hamburg’ all rolled into one. What dog wouldn’t want that?

Me.

Me. I wouldn’t want a treat like that! Oh, who the hell am I kidding? Yes, yes I would. Give me the freaking treat.

AND if you get creative, you can make three treats out of one by cutting the ends off and giving your dog the woofer part. Then later on, give them the ends. You look like a total hero to your dog.

You're no HERO! You defiled a treat! WHAT is WRONG with you?

You’re no HERO! You defiled a treat! WHAT is WRONG with you?

OR if you’re super creative, you can cut the ends off and then snip them into little treats and use them for training purposes.

Which is what I did.

Then I used the little snips and put them in the treat jar I keep by the back door. In a future post, I’ll show you WHY those treats are by the back door, but until then, remember, a dog’s nose knows Jones.

It's three treats in one! Or one totally scrumptious treat.

It’s three treats in one! Or one totally scrumptious treat.

But how do the dogs like it? Let’s see if I can get a picture.

Oh my, I'm just not sure where to start.

Oh my, I’m just not sure where to start.

Sampson was a good boy and let me get a nice shot in.

Wait? WHAT? That's a treat right there! A Frankenwoofer by JONES!

Wait? WHAT? That’s a treat right there! A Frankenwoofer by JONES!

I had to be quick with Delilah, she hasn’t quite gotten her Wait down yet, especially when it comes to yummy treats.

There might be a crumb here somewhere.

There might be a crumb here somewhere.

Both dogs licked the floor. (I KNEW I should have made them eat them on towels!)

We love the tender taffy from Jones, but the Frankwoofer might just be our new favorite.

How about you? Does your dog have a favorite treat?
