Pet Blogger Showcase – September 17, 2016

September 17, 2016 By Jodi

Thank you for joining me today for the Pet Blogger Showcase.

Today I’ll be sharing three of MY favorite posts from the previous Pet Blogger party which took place on September 3rd.

Here in no uncertain order, I present my favorite posts from the last Showcase.

How to Tell if Your Dog is in Pain by Elaine at Chasing Dog Tales

Most of you know that Sampson’s been struggling with some leg and muscle injuries as well as arthritis. The thing that really upsets me, is I noticed things were changing, but I didn’t realize the ‘symptoms’ were telling me he was in pain. Knowing what’s ‘normal’ and not normal can be really helpful.

The Most Beautiful Barf by Beth at Travels with Barley

Having a maniacal muncher myself, as soon as I saw the title of this one, I knew she’d gotten into something. If you have one of THOSE dogs, the one who eats anything/everything. I’m pretty sure you can relate to this one.

A Coat of a Different Color by Kathleen at All Things Collie.

Before I started following Kathleen’s blog, I thought collies only came in the Lassie ‘style’. You know, the long-haired kind. I had no idea there were different types of coats, and NOW she tells me there are different colors, and man, what a variety of colors! I love learning about different breeds of dogs and this post about the coat colors, what was SO interesting.

So there you have it, my favorites from the last showcase. What were yours?

Welcome to the Pet Blogger Showcase! This is the place for you to show off your favorite family friendly pet related posts, find other great posts to read, show some love to other bloggers and maybe be featured on one of the host blogs!

You Make Me Laugh – September 11, 2016

September 11, 2016 By Jodi

Before I share today’s post, I’d like to take a moment to remember the fallen, both human and animals, from the September 11th tragedy, 15 years ago. They are all heroes.

You make me laugh (or smile), the sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do on a daily basis, that brings a smile to my face, or a laugh to my lips.

Sampson, even though it can be frustrating at times, the way you simply lie there when I’m trying to put your harness on for your morning walk…

Putting a harness on a dog

you make me laugh.

I should clarify, some mornings I can’t laugh.

To his credit, Sampson usually only does this on his morning walk. I grab his harness, and tell him to get up, but he won’t. Most mornings I end up putting it on while he’s lying there!  I can’t quite figure out his motivation for this, because he really does love his walks!

Delilah on the other hand, runs over to me and is so excited that I’m putting her harness on….she spins.

Honestly, sometimes putting the dog’s harnesses on is like putting boots on a toddler. It’s a wrestling match.

Any tips for a frustrated dog wrangler?

Follow-Up Friday – September 9, 2016

September 9, 2016 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the post where I highlight reader’s comments, answer questions and generally just wrap up my week.

You Make Me Laugh – September 4, 2016

9-4-16

Meagan Maher said, “Lol too cute miss D. Merlin knows his dads work car and runs to the back door excited. Then gets between his legs too lol. When i come home i go up to the back gate and he bows to me every time.”

LOL Delilah is physically enthusiastic, while Sampson’s enthusiasm is in his tail. That’s what you hear when you walk in the door…thump, thump, thump.

Cupcake said, “What your parents don’t understand, D., is that you ALREADY waited. ALL DAY! Sometimes, my head comes half out the door as soon as Mom opens it an inch. I can’t wait that extra half second for her to step inside.”

LOL Cupcake that does not surprise me in the least. And yes, you guys seem to wait an awful lot.

Emma said, “I think it is sweet she loves him so much. I used to always go upstairs and get my wabbit to bring to Mom. These days, I just race to the door and demand snuggles. Bailie is reserved and waits for Mom to come to her.”

Ah…so you act like Delilah and Bailie acts like Sampson. 🙂

Jan K said, “Our crew doesn’t let us in the door until they’ve gotten some attention! Then they run to find a ball, because who doesn’t want to play ball the minute they get home? 🙂”

LOL I suppose to them, they have been alone all day so the natural response would be, “let’s play ball!”

Monika and Sam said, “Sam will block all manner of passage, all the while bouncing up and down like a pogo stick on steroids. This after me only taking some recycling outside. Dude, I was gone only 11 seconds. Sheesh.”

LOL What’s up with that? Sampson did it last night when I threw recycling in the bin. (Not, the pogo sticking of course.) 😉

I’m Calling This Week Done

A bit of the wild bee garden.

A bit of the wild bee garden.

Jan says, “You are a lady after my heart. I think grass is boring, boring, boring. (the lawn type, I mean) and while I give in to peer pressure from neighbors to keep the front yard in check. I take advantage of the fence that hides the backyard to let it all revert to pre-Columbian days, but with watering.”

Thanks Jan, that makes me feel a bit better! And what’s up with the ‘other’ type of grass? (If you don’t mind me asking.) 😀

Genevieve said, “You can get back to us after your first 6 bee stings with your final decision….”

Are you kidding? I’m not going OUT in the garden! LOL I am allergic to bees.

Emma said, “Don’t force the blogging…it will happen. This week is messed up with a holiday. We are confused as to what day it is as well! ”

Thank you Emma, I’m thinking it just might be time for a break.

Sand Spring Chesapeakes said, “I don’t mind looking like a hillbilly cuz I hate yard work, lol. your yard looks just fine.”

LOL but you live in the wilds of Wisconsin!

Jan K said, “My only issue with weeds and brushy areas is that that is where the ticks will hide. But as long as the dogs aren’t in that area, and it’s away from the house, that’s not an issue.”

That was a concern of mine as well, but the fencing should keep Delilah out and we have our yard sprayed (with a natural spray) four times a year to stop those ticks!

Sue said, “You made me literally laugh out loud about giving all your fucks away! Think maybe that’s my new goal 🙂”

It’s a good goal to have. 😉 Glad it made you laugh. Even when I’m not at my best, I try to make it humorous. Did you notice how I tagged that post?

Beth said, “If my yard was anything other than a big, flat rectangle, I’d be easily persuaded to let it be natural, too! My parents just got their own beehives, so I’m kind of into all things bees right now and love that you’ll be making your yard more bee friendly! We have a little pollinator garden in our yard (that’s mostly dead because I forget to water things), but I loved seeing bees enjoying it earlier this summer!”

I’m not promising I’ll water it, or if the bees get to be too much that I won’t cut it down, but at least for now, that’s how it’s staying. 🙂 I bet (if you really wanted to) you could make a little patch in the back that you let get completely wild. 🙂

Well that’s it for me folks, have a safe and wonderful weekend!
