Coyotes, Opossums, and Deer, Oh My!

October 26, 2017 By Jodi

There are lots of different wild life in our neighborhood. We’ve seen deer, fox, coyote, turkeys, opossums, and raccoons just to name a few.  Not too far from our house, I even saw a bear!

This little guy was hiding in our yard.

A couple of weeks ago on our afternoon walk, I stopped to pick up after Delilah (siriusly, scoop that poop!) and I suddenly felt like I was being watched.

When I turned around, here’s what I saw.

I think they were on the young side, honestly, I didn’t see the one hiding at first.

My point is, I’ve sort of gotten used to seeing various animals in and around our neighborhood.

But last week, I experienced something I’d never seen before.

It started around 5:00 am, when the alarm went off. I got up, went to shut off the air conditioner (it was warm that night!) and I heard what sounded to me like a toddler talking outside my window.

WTF? I thought, who the hell has their kid outside at this time of morning?

Naturally, I pulled the curtain aside to see if I could figure it out.

That’s when I saw it.

I had to look twice to make sure it was a deer, because from where I was, it looked very large. It was also walking up the middle of the street and looking on both sides of the street.

LOOKING. ON. BOTH. SIDES. OF. THE. STREET.

As I let the curtain fall, I thought I heard that high pitched toddler sound again.

She must be looking for her baby I thought.  I was filled with a sense of wonder at my witness to this occurrence.  I told my Hubby about it as I went about my morning chores.

Sampson and I did our walk, then it was Delilah’s turn. Naturally, Delilah wanted to do her favorite morning walk route, which starts on our street, then moves over one street, loops around and comes back.

I carry lights because it’s dark in the morning, and there are wooded areas where we walk, and I’m a nervous Nellie.

It was as we were getting to our turn around spot, which has no street light, and bypasses a wooded area, when it happened.  I looked up at the house on the corner, and saw what I thought was two little deer statues.

It startled me, and I thought to myself, why the hell do people put animal statues on their lawns that close to the road? As my light fell away, I thought I saw a movement. Did that statue move, I thought?

Hey, cut me some slack, it was ONLY 6:00 AM and I hadn’t had any coffee yet.

I shone my light again, and stared at the statues.

Then the first statue moved and the second one followed and the two little deer ran down the street AWAY from us.

“Hey! You’re going the wrong way!” I shouted after them, “Your mom is back there and she’s looking for you.”

I’m still worried and hope that Mama found her babies.  Does anyone have any idea how deer find each other?

You Make Me Smile – October 22, 2017

October 22, 2017 By Jodi

There was a time, not too long ago, when Hubby would work outside and Sampson had to be out there with him. Sadly, due to injuries, he doesn’t show the desire to do so too frequently. There are still times when the only way we can get him to go outside for his last potty of the night, is for Hubby to take him out front. And there are still times when he goes with Hubby on Tuesday nights to take the trash to the curb, but those times are occasionally now, instead of regular.

As I mentioned in the beginning of the week, Sampson has been so much peppier since he’s been taking on the Treatibles.

You can imagine my joy when he came outside to hang with Mom and Dad while we did yard work yesterday morning.

This for sure makes me smile.

What made you smile this week?

October 21, 2017 By Jodi

Hey you guys, thanks for joining us this week.  We had a big week with our Treatibles post and then yesterday we posted on the Trick or Treat Giveaway hop.  If you haven’t entered at this blog yet, please follow the link and do so.

Also, don’t forget, you can enter at any of the participating blogs, so there are lots of chances to win, and some really great prizes.

A little announcement about the Linky Party.  After lots of deliberations, we’ve decided to end the Linky Party at this time.  We will still have a post on November 4th, and that post will be highlighting posts from the people who link up this week.  So please, add your links below and come back November 4th to see if you were highlighted.

Now on to this week’s showcasers. Yeah, I just made that a word.

Can Treatibles CBD Oil Products Benefit Your Pet? Our Experience and Review by Jan at Wag ‘N Woof Pets – It’s interesting to me to see what benefits other people are seeing from the same products I’m using. We are specifically using Treatibles for Sampson’s CCL injuries and his arthritis, while Jan discovered that Treatibles was helping Luke with his allergies!  To see her total review, head on over to her blog.

Soth and Rye. Aren’t they adorable? Photo courtesy of Travels With Barley

Like Cats and Dogs by Beth at Travels with Barley – My Uncle and Aunt had a cat and dog that loved each other. I can’t tell you how many times I witnessed Jasper (cat) cleaning out Ginger’s (dog) ears. Ginger would lie on the floor, Jasper would wrap himself around Ginger’s head and just lick, lick, lick her ears. It was the cutest thing ever!  When Beth brought Rye into the home she shares with Barley (dog) and Soth (cat) little did she know that one of the sweetest friendships was about to develop. If cats and dogs can get along, why can’t people?

10 Essential Tips for Teething – A Survival Guide for New Puppy Owners by Big Dog Mom at Big Dog Mom – Because really…puppy teeth hurt. And they can destroy things too.  I’ll never forget how my perfect puppy, Sampson was caught chewing on the loveseat. I was in the kitchen, and I heard what I thought was water dropping in the living room. What is that sound, I thought? Walk into the living room only to find the puppy grabbing the footrest fabric with his teeth, giving it a good tug and then letting it go so it snapped back. Thwack! Yes, puppy’s chew things, so if you are going to get through that teething stage, ya’ll are going to need some help. Big Dog Mom’s got you covered here.

Honorable Mention

Scratching Post Secrets Revealed by Mr. Jack at ChirpyCats – I couldn’t help but highlight this. WHAT message would your pet leave for you or another pet if they could actually talk? Here’s Delilah – Yo’ Sampson…stop being so damn perfect. It’s hard for a feisty gal like me to live up to expectations. Sampson – Dear Delilah, you know that the Mama will feed you two solids a day. She’s done it every day for 10 years. You can stop worrying about it.

Hahaha, what would your pet say?
