You Make Me Smile – November 5, 2017

November 5, 2017 By Jodi

You make me smile (or laugh). The sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do on a daily basis that brings a smile to my face, or a laugh to my lips.

Last week Sampson had his annual vet visit. I rushed home from work, quickly walked both dogs and then started getting the car ready.

When the dogs know I’m outside near the car, they tend to watch me from the sliding door in the den.

I backed the car in, laid the seats down and spread the rugs out. Then I got the ramp out, and set it up at the back of the car. Then I went inside, loaded my pockets with treats, and put Sampson’s harness on.

When I opened the back door, in a move I would typically only associate with Delilah, Sampson bolted out the door, and jetted around the corner of the house.

I looked at Hubby, and said, “Did you see that?”

“I did,” he responded.

We both walked outside and around the house to find Sampson waiting expectantly at the gate.

We sure laughed over that one.  I don’t think I’ve seen him move that fast in about four years!

Here he is at the vet’s office. He was watching a couple that was dropping their cat off. He was determined to get their attention and to get some pets.

Such intensity.

In case you’re wondering…he did. And that makes me smile.

Pet Blogger Showcase – November 4, 2017

November 4, 2017 By Jodi

As most of you know, at the last showcase we announced that after much consideration, we were discontinuing the Pet Blogger Showcase, so this post is the last one.

Before we get to this week’s featured posts, I’d like to take a minute to thank my co-hosts, Anita from Feline Opines, Kat from Momma Kat and Her Bear Cat, and of course Dawn from Pet Faves. Before this Linky Party started, I didn’t know Anita or Kat. Through posting and Facebook, I’ve grown quite attached to them and meeting them in real life was a highlight of my experience at BlogPaws.

Anita and Kat, thank you for writing such amazing blogs, and for all you’ve done for me, and for all you contribute to the world of blogging. I’ve enjoyed co-hosting with you these past months, and I’ve enjoyed getting to know you as well. I hope we never lose touch.

I’ve known Dawn for some time, having first met her at BlogPaws in DC back in 2013. For those of you that don’t know, this whole Linky Party was Dawn’s idea, a first for the pet blogging world I think. She was the driving force behind it, made all the graphics, the rules and the linky codes. None of this could have happened without her. Thank you Dawn for being willing to experiment with new things, for doing all the hard work, and for allowing me the honor to work with you on this. It’s truly been a pleasure.

And of course, I have to thank you, dear reader. For supporting us in this endeavor by linking up to our posts, and coming back to read them.  From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Now enough of the mushy, let me leave you with a smile.

It’s hard for me to tell who is happier in this photo! Photo courtesy of Travels with Barley.

We are the Champions by Beth at Travels with Barley – This post made me SO happy to read.  It proves that hard work and patience pays off, and is so inspirational to anyone who has ever struggled with a reactive dog. Plus this line, “While training Barley to detect the scent of cat urine would be very helpful in cleaning my carpets, it isn’t very productive for competing in a scent trial.” Really had me chuckling.

Pictures With Pumpkins by Kara at The Real Rescue Dogs of Atlanta – I love posing my dogs at places appropriate to the season, and getting some nice photos. Kara discovered this wasn’t such an easy task in the Atlanta, GA area.  She also discovered that we are spoiled in the northeast with our easy access to local farms. Farms where we wander acres upon acres, searching for the perfect Christmas Tree or pumpkin. Farms where we go to pick apples, blueberries, strawberries. (Yes, I grew up in the country.) 🙂 There were a couple of really amusing bits and I found myself nodding along.

Because kittens make everything better. Photo courtesy of Chirpy Cats.

How Kittens Taught a Feral Cat to Love Again by Yasaar Nakchbendi at Chirpy Cats – It makes me so sad that world-wide many people consider animals to be ‘throw-aways’. I don’t think I really realized the magnitude of it, until I read this post. I’m so grateful to the people who organize events and help and rescue these animals. Mr. Spunky’s story was sad, but it has such a happy ending.  You just have to read it!

Thanks again to my amazing co-hosts and my amazing readers!

You Make Me Smile – October 29, 2017

October 29, 2017 By Jodi

You make me smile, the sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do on a daily basis, that brings a smile to my face, and a laugh to my lips.

Most of you know, our walks are usually adventurous. If it’s not loose dogs confronting us, it’s been Delilah running off on me.

After the time she ran off and got her leash stuck under someone’s central air conditioning unit, I stopped letting her off-leash at our park.

We went back to basics. She was always on leash, she was rewarded for every little thing on our walks.

We stuck with it for years. I can’t tell you how many, because I can’t locate that post from the last time, but I’m certain it’s been at least four to five years.

Finally, I feel like she gets it.  I’ve been testing her lately. Ever so carefully and in areas where I feel pretty confident that she won’t run off.

Specifically, I’ve experimented with this in the woods, and I’ve been very pleased with the results.

Just checking in….

She checks back in with me very frequently, and often times, she walks beside me all the way.

THAT makes me smile.
