The Apple

February 4, 2018 By Jodi

A few days ago, Sampson found an apple on our morning walk. I made a mental note, because I know one dog, that would scarf that apple right up.
Long time readers know, Delilah loves her food, and many has been the walk when I’ve had to wrestle food from her. It can be very disconcerting, shoving your hand into a gnashing mouth, without knowing WHAT you’re going to pull out.
I’m thinking someone probably threw it out thinking the birds would eat it, but as far as I know, it has only attracted the attention of dogs. 🙂

Since noticing the apple, I’ve avoided that side of the street with Delilah on our nightly walk. Except for Friday night.

Friday night I apparently was distracted. Just as we approached the area, a car turned down the street, so I stayed tucked behind a parked truck.
Snap! I forgot about that damn apple. Yup. Delilah found it. But I still didn’t realize this.

You know what they say. An apple a day, keeps the dogter away.

After the car passed I moved to get around the truck and noticed someone was distracted. Sure enough, she had that apple in her mouth.

Delilah’s come a long way, but she still hasn’t quite mastered “drop it,” but thankfully, she’s gotten pretty good with “leave it,” which she did. And that made me smile.
What did your pets do that made you smile this week?

P.S. Yesterday morning I remembered the apple, it was daylight, and I had a spare poop bag, so I picked up that apple and disposed of it.

HamBone

January 28, 2018 By Jodi

When crazy, out-of-control Delilah first came to us, we had hopes that some of Sampson’s manners and habits would wear off on her.

Years went by, and Delilah learned to trust us more, and gained a bit more self-control, and slowly, we began to see some of Sampson’s traits.

The one that stands out the most to me, is something I call HamBone.

Without a doubt, Sampson is a HamBone. The times when it’s most apparent is when we come home from work. That’s the time when he’s SO happy to see us, and when his smile really comes out.

Give me some attention, now!

Both Hubby and I make it a point to acknowledge Sampson first, and then he usually gets some loving. If for some reason that doesn’t happen, that’s when the feet go up in the air and the smile comes out.

Delilah’s taken to lying on her back and wiggling her body about, waiting for us to love on her. Friday night when Hubby got home, Delilah pulled out all the stops.

First she grabbed a toy and carried it in her mouth to her Daddy. Of course, he gave her a little bit of attention, then he went and laid on the floor with Sampson.

Delilah wiggled around on the floor on her back. Then she came over and nudged the back of Hubby’s neck with her nose. She got a toy and pranced about trying to get Daddy’s attention.

Finally the Daddy sat down and little Delilah was happy at last. She climbed up on his lap, and stretched right out, HamBoning like there was no tomorrow.

She had her head hanging off the arm of the couch at one point.

I said, “What a HamBone!”

Hubby and I just laughed, what else can you do?

What did your pet do that made you laugh this week?

You make me laugh, or smile. The sweet, funny, loving things dogs do that make us laugh or smile.

We Got Our Money’s Worth

January 21, 2018 By Jodi

When Delilah joined our family, we knew we were getting a Labrador. What we didn’t know, was that we were also getting a vacuum, a source of amusement, a cuddle bug, a rule breaker, a garbage disposal, a walking partner, a clock, a dishwasher, an artist….I’d say we got our money’s worth.

Dishwasher you say? Yes please!

Sometimes she rolls a couple of her skills together…like yesterday, when she was pre-washing dishes for me. Somehow, she moved her bowl, around a wall and into the kitchen right next to Sampson’s dish.

Delilah’s bowl is the one with the raised bones on it, Sampson’s is the plain one, and the large one is the water bowl. I set Sampson’s bowl done to the right of the water bowl and she managed to move it away from the wall.

Naturally, I saw that, called Hubby in to view it, and then we both laughed. I guess we are adding feng shui to her resume. 😀

You make me laugh (or smile,) the sweet, funny, loving things dogs do that make us laugh or smile.

What did your pet do this week that made you laugh or smile?
