The Cone of Shame

February 25, 2018 By Jodi

What is it about the cone of shame that affects a dog’s demeanor?

Poor Delilah is recovering from a debridement of an ulcer in her left eye, and the Ophthalmologist has recommended the cone for those times when we can’t watch her.

Naturally, she hates the cone, and while it breaks my heart to put her in it, I know it’s what I need to do for her own well-being.

But I can’t help but smile when I see this.

You make me laugh or smile, the sweet, funny, loving things dogs do that make us laugh or smile.

What did your pet do that made you smile this week?

Do It With Gusto

February 18, 2018 By Jodi

Back a lifetime ago, I had my own home daycare. One of my charges happened to be my Goddaughter, Sammi. Sammi was one of those kids who would eat just about anything, and she could pack it away! Whenever she went out to dinner, her mom would order an adult meal for her, and she could eat the whole thing!

Sammi loved her food, and she ate it with relish. She would come home from school and you could immediately tell what she’d had for lunch, because she ate with such gusto, she always had some on her clothes or face.

At home, they ate dinner late. At that time, we ate dinner on the early side. Sammi quickly learned to have an early dinner with Auntie and Uncle, and it would tide her over until her Mom made dinner.

I was reminded of this the day I looked at Delilah and saw this.

Delilah is another one who relishes her food, and she also eats with gusto. (I heard Labradors loved food, but I’ve never seen one that loves food to the extent this one does. She is so quick and enthusiastic, you best not be in her way.)

You make me laugh or smile, the sweet, funny, loving things dogs do that make us laugh or smile.

That Prime Piece of Real Estate

February 11, 2018 By Jodi

Do you have a jealous dog?

When we first got Sampson, I was still discovering all the amazing dog websites available to me on the internet. I remember reading somewhere that dogs don’t exhibit jealousy. I wish to hell I knew where that website was so I could tell they are full of dog doo.

When we come home from work, if one dog is getting loved on, the other one is popping us with their head, vying for their own piece of the pie.

When I go to bed at night, if a dog has already claimed the spot on the bed, the other one is doing one of two things.

  1. I’m getting the stink-eye from their position on the floor. Or…
  2. They insist on climbing on the bed with me and the other dog.

Case in point.

Friday night, Sampson grabbed the prime piece of real estate. Hubby was saying good night to him, and Delilah was standing there, throwing shade.

Finally, she decided she’d had enough of that and thought she’d just climb up on the bed.

Trouble is…there’s not usually a lot of room, because Bubber loves to stretch out, and Delilah, who has calmed down considerably, is like a bull in a china shop.

She will climb up not the bed, whether there is room or not, and she doesn’t care if she sits on someone’s head. Thankfully, it’s not usually MY head, but I have to be quick and put my hand where she’s headed, or she will just sit on Sampson.

Friday night was one of those nights. She decided she was DEFINITELY getting on the bed.

Right where Bubber’s head was…

I quickly put my hand in front of his face, and shifted her butt a titch forward, so she wouldn’t sit directly on his head.

Hubby said, “He’s got a big ole’ shit eating grin on his face.

His grin stayed that way too, even when she was SUPER Close!

The sweet, funny, loving things dogs do that make us laugh or smile.
