Follow-Up Friday Has Fleas

August 16, 2013 By Jodi

Um make that Flea.  Not the bug, the blogger.

As I mentioned yesterday, my co-hostess this week is a newbie.  Not to the blog hop but to the co-hosting duties. When I asked her to co-host I promised I’d write something nice about her.  She said to tell you she was crunchy.  I think she’s hysterically funny and wish my posts were as funny as hers.  She is the first blogging friend I met at Blog Paws.  An animal lover through and through as you know if you read her blog.

Please stop over and say hello to Flea from Jones Natural Chews.  Thanks so much for joining me this week Flea, it’s awesome to have you on board.

Yes, it’s Follow-Up Friday.  The blog hop that helps you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

You Make Me Smile

Many of you commented on the beauty of this photo.  I’d like to take credit for it, but that was all Mother Nature.

Autumn Dancer Llama Farm

Emma asked, “Now that fenced in area for the dogs…looks like any dog could just duck under the post or was there another fence?”

Here’s the answer I got from Ginny (one of the owners): the Llama in the picture who kept looking at you is Satin. Crystal is the Llama kissing Chet (smile). For folks who were asking about the backyard fence, there’s very strong woven wire that’s attached from top to bottom of the poles…so far this has been doggy proof (no escapes). However, we are having the “test” right now…4 large Rottweilers and 3 Dobermans (and their owners) are presently vacationing at the cabin.

Jessica said, “Cabin rentals are our vacation salvation with Silas, because he gets overwhelmed by hotel noises. Some cabin rental places really pack them together, though, which cuts down on the fun.”

There are two houses on the property.  One is occupied by the owners and the other is the cabin.  It really is very quiet and peaceful.

And to all of you who want to go with me next time I say, HELL YEAH!!

Blueberry’s Human asked, “what happens if the llama does NOT “accept” you???” and Jen asked, “So I’m wondering what does the llama do if it doesn’t accept you? Kick? Spit?”

I imagine they tear you to shreds like the Hippogriff, but you can bet I won’t be hanging around to find out!   Truthfully I think they just turn away from you.  We were told they rarely spit and when they do it’s usually at another llama.

Jan K asked, “Also, what place can you go with your dogs, and leave them at the cabin and they’ll be let out (if you wanted)?”

Exactly Jan.

It’s a Piece of Fruit

Carol asked, “Canned green bean………really?????”

Yes really.

Blueberry’s Human asked, “Do you also end up with various scratches and/or bruises due to Delilah’s enthusiasm for treats for tricks?”…….and ” hope she has a “soft mouth” like Blueberry.”

Yes. She’s very enthusiastic and not shy about letting you know she what she wants. Many is the time I’ve been scratched or stepped on.  And once she drew blood on my hand.  And no, she does not have a soft mouth.  Most times I have to give her the treat in my palm which can make for a very wet hand, but it beats dripping blood. 🙂

Sugar said, “Next time, may we suggest that don’t bend down so much.”

I know, I know.  My trainer keeps telling me, but it’s a hard habit to break. 🙂

2nd Annual Dogs of Blogville Calendar Contest

Frankie and Ernie said, “HEY….. that is US. We want to get in again this year… would you like a pic of us in our Tighty Whities… instead of our ZoomO’s????? BaaaaaWaaaah”

And when they sent their entry, guess what?  Yup, they sent a picture in their ‘Tighty Whities.”

These two are quite the characters, no?

These two are quite the characters, no?

So far I have eight photos, Blueberry, Frankie and Ernie, Dakota, Maya, Alma and Moses, Molly the Wally, Winston, Roxy the Traveling Dog.  I’m so excited to show you all the awesome photos!

Some comments I got regarding the video:

Julie, “I like how Sampson walks up and does every command on the first try ;)”

Jessica, “I also love Sampson. He’s all, “yeah, I’ll sit for that. But I’m not going to carry on like she does.”

Sampson is a very good boy but he’s not into learning tricks.  Thankfully he’s very good at sit and down. 🙂 They were easy for him. 🙂

Thanks for joining Jones Natural Chews and Heart Like a Dog for Follow-Up Friday.  Don’t forget to submit your photos for the calendar contest.

Thanks again to Flea, see that wasn’t painful was it?  I am always looking for co-hosts for this blog hop, just leave me a note in the comments.

This ‘N That Thursday

August 15, 2013 By Jodi

Welcome to This ‘N That Thursday hosted by 2 Brown Dawgs Blog.  It’s the blog hop that has some of this and a little of that and everything in between.  Many thanks to our friends at the 2 Brown Dawgs Blog for this awesome hop!

Let’s get to it, shall we?

Out Foxed Again

Yesterday morning I went outside to empty the dehumidifier.  Sampson loves this part of the morning.  He goes outside with me and sniffs around checking to see what types of visitors we’ve had during the night.  He is very thorough in his investigations, giving special attention to areas of the lawn where  he’s certain something has trodden.

It was a quiet, cool morning and we stood in the driveway just enjoying the break from the heat and humidity.(Sometimes he just stands in the driveway surveying the neighborhood, like a King surveying his Kingdom. )

I was facing the street and Sampson was facing the lawn when I saw him cock his head.  I knew he’d seen something so as I turned my head to look I said, “Leave it.”

Thank Dog he’s got a solid leave it.  That dang fox ran down our front lawn and across the street disappearing somewhere in the neighbor’s yard.

Can you imagine if it had been Delilah?  I’d still be running.

And where was my camera?  In the freaking house!!  Out foxed again.  One of these days little fox, I will get a decent picture of you.

When we want back inside the house, Sampson immediately went to the door leading to the upstairs.  When I didn’t move towards it, he came back and Roo’ed at me to open the door.  Such a smart boy!

Reading and Commenting on Blog Posts

I’m so far behind in reading and commenting.  I’m trying to catch up, I really am.  I guess taking almost two weeks off has a tendency to put one behind.

As of right now I have over 700 posts in my feeder.  I’ve caught up on a few blogs, just know if you see a random comment here and there, it’s because I’m trying to catch up and I just can’t comment on every single post. 🙁

If there’s something important I need to know, please share it with me in the comments or drop me a private message via facebook or e-mail.

The Dogs of Blogville Calendar Contest

Don’t forget to get  your pictures in for this Calendar Contest.  In years to come you’ll be able to say, “My dog was March 2014.”  Yes. You. Will.

So far we have five entries.

What Will Delilah do for a piece of fruit?

I will sit pretty for a piece of frozen pineapple. Yes I will.

I will sit pretty for a piece of frozen pineapple. Yes I will.

For those of you who missed it, here is the promised video with my wild and highly food motivated lab.

Follow-Up Friday

Guess what?  I coerced a newbie to co-host tomorrow’s hop.  I hope you’re as excited as I am!  I will be joined tomorrow by none other than Flea from Jones Natural Chews!

2nd Annual Dogs of Blogville Calendar Contest

August 14, 2013 By Jodi

The Daily Dog Blog and Heart Like a Dog are proud to announce the 2nd annual Dogs of Blogville Calendar contest.

Since this is only the second time we have done this, we’re still learning, but we do have SOME rules.

They go like this:

  1. We (The Daily Dog Blog and Heart Like a Dog) make the rules.
  2. Submission portion of contest begins immediately.
  3. Photos are limited to one photo per blog (so we can showcase as many dogs as possible.)  If you have more than one dog that represents your blog you can either submit one dog or a photo with both (all) your dogs.
  4. Dogs who have crossed the bridge are eligible to participate.
  5. Photos should be submitted to stone.jodi@ymail.com AND julesmelfi@gmail.com
  6. No photo editing allowed.  Any editing deemed necessary will be done by Julie.
  7. Photo should be a good, high resolution digital image (11″ x  8½” @ 300 dpi output, the largest setting on minimum 6MP camera.) Best quality images are approximately 2832 pixels by 2128 pixels at 300 dpi and a minimum of 1MB.(I have no idea what this means, but thankfully Julie does!)
  8. We strongly suggest your photo is oriented in Landscape as opposed to Portrait.  (This makes for easier formatting when designing the calendar.
  9. Submission portion of contest ends Tuesday, August 20th at midnight.
  10. We reserve the right to use your submitted photo on our blogs for promotional purposes only, with credit given to the photo/blog owner of course!
  11. Voting will begin Saturday, August 24th at 12:01 AM and end Saturday, August 31st at 11:59 PM.
  12. Voting is limited to once every 24 hours. (More instructions when the voting process begins.)

Last year our Dogs of Blogville Calendar contest raised right around $500 which was donated to Roxanne Hawn at Champion of My Heart. This year our fundraising efforts will be for Benny The Frenchie.

For those of you new to this blog, you can read all about last year’s contest here.

All I can say is the contest exceeded my expectations, and Julie designed a damn fine, high quality calendar that I’ve been enjoying all year.

I mean really, how can you look at this picture every day in August and not smile?

Frankie and Ernie

Frankie and Ernie

.

Yup, it’s Frankie and Ernie from FRANKly and ERNESTly Speaking.

Last year we had 20 dogs enter the contest and I’m very pleased to say that Julie managed to fit all the dogs in the calendar.  Of course there are no guarantees we can do that again this year, it all depends on the number of entries.

So start digging through your photos or grab your camera and your dog(s) and start snapping. 🙂  You’ve got one week.

Now go!

Update to yesterday.  Yes, I got the video to load on YouTube (and after it did I flipped a big middle finger to Apple, take that!) so as I promised, here is the video showing exactly WHAT Delilah will do for a frozen piece of pineapple.
