If You’re Happy and You Know It

July 29, 2018 By Jodi

When Sampson was a tiny puppy, I read an article that said dogs don’t have a memory.

Little Puppy Sampson, with one of his favorite toys.

I remember thinking, well, that’s a bunch of shit, if they can’t remember anything, how can this dog be playing with a toy, go outside for two hours, and come back in and go straight for the toy?

I also recall an article that said pets don’t experience human emotions. I believe the specific emotion was jealousy.

And again I thought, that’s also a bunch of shit. If you’ve ever seen Delilah when Hubby comes home and is a lovin’ on Sampson, you’d know that dogs, do in fact, have feelings of jealousy.

I’m not good at reading my dogs when they are sad, or perhaps depressed. (Although, I could definitely tell Sampson wasn’t too happy during his confinement for CCL surgery.) But I can definitely tell when my dogs are happy.

Delilah is like Tigger when she is happy. She bounces, jumps and runs around like a maniac. Wednesday, Sampson had a vet appointment, when I got home, I brought him in, and harnessed Delilah up for her walk. She ran to the door and jumped around like a lunatic, because she was so excited, she thought she was going in the car.

Sampson on the other paw, can’t jump around like that. He shows his happiness and excitement in different ways.

One of the ways is something we call, swimming. That’s where he lies on his side, and puts his paws up over his head and pulls them down. He repeats this a number of times. For some reason, he always does this on the seam of the carpet, so guess what? Yup, my carpet is trashed. He usually does his swimming, just after he eats, and just after I put his harness and flea/tick spray on.

If he’s not swimming, the other way to know he’s happy is when he lies on his back against the couch.

It always makes me smile when I see him like this.

It doesn’t look comfortable to me…

Or like this.

Whatchu lookin’ at, Willis?

How does your pet let you know they’re happy?

Tomorrow this special boy turns 14, come back for his birthday post.

She’s Too Damn Cute

June 24, 2018 By Jodi

Last night, I started going through my photos, looking for something to share today.

I’ve had my laptop for almost five years, and during that time, I’ve taken over 10,000 photos. Yes, you read that right, TEN THOUSAND PHOTOS.

I used up the free iCloud account a couple of years ago, and then I switched to the first level of paid iCloud. I think it’s $2 or $3 per month. Apple notified me a month or so ago, that I was getting close to my limit. The next tier is $9.99 per month, and I’ll be darned if I’m willing to pay that, so I started going through my photos and deleting the blurry ones, the duplicate ones, the ones I took just for blog posts, etc.

So far, I’ve deleted about 500 photos.

I was going to do today’s post about those blooper photos. You know, the ones I was staging for a post that just didn’t turn out the way I expected.

Until I ran across these.

In these photos, she was participating in her favorite past-time, of watching Chipmunks.

Now, I know I’ve shared at least one of them in You Make Me posts, but when I looked at all five of these together, they were just so damn cute, I needed to share them. There is something about a dog carrying a toy in their mouth, that just makes me smile.

You make me smile, (or laugh.) The sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do, that puts a smile on my face or brings a laugh to my lips.

If You Can’t Join Em!

June 10, 2018 By Jodi

Tuesday, my friend Mindy came to stay with us for a bit.

A little back story. Mindy is the reason we have Sampson. Mindy and I worked together, and I had mentioned we were looking for a puppy. Mindy’s niece had a dog that was having puppies and the rest is history.

When Sampson was six weeks old, we went to visit him, and we took him through he woods to Mindy’s house where we hung out and played. Sampson is quite fond of Mindy, and was so glad to see her.

You know how when the grandchildren come over, he sleeps right where they are sleeping and won’t let them out of his sight?

Well, Mindy is staying in a room that has no carpet on the floor, so Sampson cannot go in there, for fear that he will slip and do more damage to his legs.

Since Sampson can’t sleep in the room with Mindy, he did the next best thing.

I actually had to coax him away and into the bedroom the first night. Thankfully, he’s settled down since then, and now only waits outside her door in the morning.

He is such a loyal guy and he loves with his whole heart.

Which of course, makes me smile.

You make me smile (or laugh,) the sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do that bring a smile to my face, or a laugh to my lips.

What did your pet do that made you laugh or smile this week?
