Re-living Memories

September 2, 2018 By Jodi

As the dogs have aged, they sleep more. When they sleep more, they do less and therefore, the things that make me laugh or smile, are simple things.

Oh sure, there are days when something happens.

Like Friday when I came home and it looked like the cheap dog bed I bought from my local warehouse had exploded.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The bed has been falling apart for a bit and I just haven’t gotten around to replace it.  Although it’s never looked like THIS.

Truthfully, it could have also been someone thinking it was a giant stuffy that needed de-stuffing. Because yes, I have caught her doing that.

Don’t believe her, she loves to tell tall tales.

Because our lives have quieted down, I find myself going through the 8,000+ photos I’ve taken over the last five years. Partially, I’m deleting some of the duplicates, or the photo of the state driver’s license plate so I can report him to the “How am I driving” number. (Like an old-fucking-lady, that’s how.) But I’m also enjoying some of the more candid photos I’ve found, and re-living memories.

Like this photo. I want to say it was taken a couple of years ago, before Sampson really slowed down. It was a day I had my granddaughter, and she was running through the woods, jumping over rocks and fallen trees.

Sampson headed off the trail, to the rocky outcrop that overlooks our neighborhood, and I happened to snap a photo.

It makes me smile to see this, he is always so happy in the woods and I think it shows in the photo, what do you think?

You make me smile, or laugh. The sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do that make me laugh or smile.

Yin and Yang

August 12, 2018 By Jodi

I often think that old saying, “Opposites attract” has a lot to do with the Yin and Yang of life. The light and the dark, the good and the bad, the funny and the serious, they complement each other.

If someone were to look at the physical and personality characteristics of my dogs, they’d pretty much determine they are as opposite as two dogs can be. Sampson is peanut butter, and Delilah is chocolate. A perfect food combination, and a striking pair of dogs.

While the general Labrador personality is goofy and fun, the thing I like most about Labs is they each have their own, unique personality.

Delilah is Yin. She is darker in color, harder to train, stubborn, impatient, demanding, naughty.

Sampson is Yang.  He is lighter in color, easy to train, easy-going, patient, gentle, social, obedient.

Some would say, old soul, new soul. I guess it just depends on your philosophy.

I was reminded of the Yin and Yang yesterday morning, when I was preparing breakfast for Sampson and Delilah.

I looked over, and there was Sampson, patiently waiting for me to finish the prep, and serve him.

Where was Delilah?

Why in a perfect heel, right next to my leg.

Of course, I picked up the phone, and took the photos, smiling all the while.

You make me laugh, or smile, the sweet, funny, loving things dogs do that bring a smile to the face, or a laugh to the lips.

What did your pet do that made you smile this week?

Children and Vacations

August 5, 2018 By Jodi

I’ve had my great-niece with me since last Monday. She is eight, and has been moving from house to house, visiting with family. I took vacation starting Wednesday, and every day, I’ve been picking up my grandkids, and doing something fun with them.

So far we’ve been to the Sweet Frogs (frozen yogurt,) the pool, the Children’s Museum, Home Depot for project day, and today, we’re heading for the Farmer’s Market.

I took LOTS of pictures this week, but only a few of dogs. Most of my photos were of kids, and most of our funny moments were also…with kids.

Because my great-niece and my granddaughter are close in age, my granddaughter has been with me Weds-Friday.

My niece was sleeping on a fold-put chair, and we decided my granddaughter would sleep with me.

Turns out, it was like wrestling a toddler.

I have a futon in my room, and because it was my granddaughter, Sampson had to sleep on the bed with her. So it was me, Sampson and my granddaughter.

After being awake most of the night, I decided to sleep on the floor the next night. I have a thin mattress topper that I threw on the floor, and I assumed Sampson would sleep with me. I was right.

Delilah started out on her bed, but then jumped on my bed, and my granddaughter wasn’t happy with that, so I had to call Delilah down.

She came, but wasn’t happy about it. So when I woke up in the morning, I wasn’t surprised to see that she wasn’t on her bed.

But when I went looking for her, I couldn’t find her.

Turns out, she curled up on my niece’s bed, and both of them were snoozing contently.

There is no sweeter chocolate in the world.

It made me smile, because of all the dog beds, couches and places to sleep in my house, my dogs choose the people. And I can’t help but smile at that.

What did your pet do that made you smile this week?
