The Apple

February 4, 2018 By Jodi

A few days ago, Sampson found an apple on our morning walk. I made a mental note, because I know one dog, that would scarf that apple right up.
Long time readers know, Delilah loves her food, and many has been the walk when I’ve had to wrestle food from her. It can be very disconcerting, shoving your hand into a gnashing mouth, without knowing WHAT you’re going to pull out.
I’m thinking someone probably threw it out thinking the birds would eat it, but as far as I know, it has only attracted the attention of dogs. 🙂

Since noticing the apple, I’ve avoided that side of the street with Delilah on our nightly walk. Except for Friday night.

Friday night I apparently was distracted. Just as we approached the area, a car turned down the street, so I stayed tucked behind a parked truck.
Snap! I forgot about that damn apple. Yup. Delilah found it. But I still didn’t realize this.

You know what they say. An apple a day, keeps the dogter away.

After the car passed I moved to get around the truck and noticed someone was distracted. Sure enough, she had that apple in her mouth.

Delilah’s come a long way, but she still hasn’t quite mastered “drop it,” but thankfully, she’s gotten pretty good with “leave it,” which she did. And that made me smile.
What did your pets do that made you smile this week?

P.S. Yesterday morning I remembered the apple, it was daylight, and I had a spare poop bag, so I picked up that apple and disposed of it.

You CAN Teach an Old Dog New Tricks!

January 14, 2018 By Jodi

In a post I wrote last year (you can read about it HERE), I shared we use a lot of throw rugs in our house. One of the uses I insist we need a rug for, is at snack time.

If you’ve ever given your dog a frozen KONG, you know, wherever your dog eats it, there’s bound to be a messy wet spot. Because of this, I’m working hard to get the dogs to eat their treats on the throw rug. They’re easy to clean, and you can simply drape them over a chair when not in use.

I tend to re-use the rugs and wash them once week. But I’m lazy that way. 🙂

As with everything with the Chocolate Lab, getting Delilah to do things MY way vs her way, is challenging. Most nights I have to redirect her at least once.

Before I hand out Kongs, I place the throw rugs out on the floor, that’s usually when Delilah is dancing around and I can barely accomplish what I’m doing.

The other night, I put Delilah’s rug down while Sampson was snoozing on the couch. Once Delilah started bouncing around, he sat up to see what all the hoopla was about. He watched as I put her rug down first, then his. Then he oh so carefully slid off the couch, and settled himself on his rug. All without being told to do that.

THAT made me smile. He’s such a good boy!

You CAN teach an old dog new tricks!

What did your pet do that made you smile this week?

You make me smile (or laugh), the sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do that make me laugh or smile.

You Make Me Smile – December 31, 2017

December 31, 2017 By Jodi

Before I get to your smile post, I’d like to thank Beth Patterson at The Daily Dog Tag, for messaging me yesterday that my site was down. Apparently my hosting ran out, and I missed it. Thanks to Beth, the situation was quickly fixed.

Many times when I’m sharing my smile post with you, I don’t have an actual picture of whatever the dogs did that made me smile, and that is also the case today.

Last year, my bedroom was arranged so the side of my bed was against the wall. At that time, me and both dogs would somehow fit on this ‘full-size’ futon I use as my bed. Then at some point last year, we re-arranged the room so now only the headboard rests against the wall. And now, for some reason, the three of us no longer ‘fit’ on the bed.

We’ve also reached a point where the doors to the bedrooms say open and the dog has complete freedom, and can sleep wherever they choose.

Some nights, I have both dogs in the room with me, and other nights just one, and still other nights I have both of them. Since we no longer all ‘fit’ on the bed, it’s usually a competition to see who will get onto the bed first.  There are rare occasions where both dogs ARE on the bed, but then usually after an hour or so, one of them gets down off the bed.

Some nights, I start off with one dog, and when I wake up, it’s the other dog that’s on the bed. AND THAT makes me smile.

You make me smile, (or laugh). The sweet, funny, loving things my dogs do that make me laugh or smile.

What did your dog do the made you laugh or smile this week.
