W.T.F./Whoo Hoo Wednesday

July 25, 2012 By Jodi

Please note this post is not meant to make light of the deeds described here, only to make fun of, ridicule, bully and just plain beat the shit out of the idiots who commit these stupid acts.

Airline Employees Abuse Disable Veteran and His Service Dog – Dallas, Texas

According to this veteran two different United Airlines employees kicked his dog and then another employee allegedly called him retarded.  Are you freakin’ kidding me?

You kicked a dog.

In the airport.

You do know that non-working dogs aren’t typically allowed in airports right?  So this wasn’t some stressed out, out-of-control dog hell-bent on destruction.

It’s what we call a service dog.  Think about those words.  Service.

Most service dogs I know are mellower than mellow, they would never jump, bark or even lick someone while working.

And who the hell says retarded anymore?  The politically correct term is mentally challenged or handicapped.

If you’re going to act like a freakin moron, please at least use the correct terminology.

You couldn’t have picked a bigger demographic of people to piss off.  Veterans, people who love veterans and animal lovers.  Good thing you just merged with Continental, they should be able to carry your ass for a while.

I think I just figured out why United only serves peanuts on their flights,  apparently their employees aren’t capable of handling much more than that.

Whoo Hoo Wednesday!!

Ohio Removes Pit Bull From Vicious Dogs List –  Colombus, OH

Um, this bit of news is like 2 1/2 months old.  I know it’s shameful, but it just came across my facebook page a couple of days ago, either way you look at it, it’s great news indeed!

Ohio was one of those moronic states that thinks just because a dog looks a certain way, he acts a certain way as well.

Thankfully more and more towns and states are beginning to wise up that in most instances it is not the dogs that are fault, but irresponsible owners.

Watch out Miami/Dade you’re next!

Check out this post from Life With Dogs.

Do you think it matters that this Mayor is a woman?

Anything got your dander up this week?  Something good rock your world?  Please share in the comments.

W.T.F./Whoo Hoo Wednesday

July 18, 2012 By Jodi

Here comes another W.T.F. Wednesday where I can’t even make fun of someone.

Police Dog in Tucson Dies After Being Left in Hot Car – Tucson Arizona

The title alone is awful, another dog left alone in a hot car.

In Tucson no less!

The line under the title is worse, “Officer switched cars, forgot about his partner.”

Say it with me.

What the f*ck!

Apparently this police officer switched cars and left immediately for the scene of an accident, as he’s on his way to the scene he suddenly remembers his partner.

Gee, I’m thinking you go to get into the car and think, weapon – check, keys – check, cell phone – check, billy club – check, partner ?, um partner ?

If I worked for the Tucson police department and was assigned to partner with this guy, I’d think long and hard about resigning.

I’ve already said this once this week,  I’m in the mentalpause stage of my life.  I’ve forgotten quite a few things, most notably inanimate objects that I’ve misplaced somewhere.

Alright, I might have forgotten the kids at work once or twice, and there was that time I left my niece home on the couch while I went to the bus stop, but they weren’t locked in a hot car!

I was reassured however (she says sarcastically) by the final line of the article, “DPS is conducting an internal investigation, and Tucson Police Dept. has agreed to do a criminal investigation to determine whether there was any negligence or other criminal behavior involved.”

I’m sure, unless this guy hates dogs that he did not intentionally leave the dog in the hot car.  I would still however question his abilities to remain calm under pressure.  If he can forget his dog in a car because he is responding to an accident, what might he do should he discover say….

a tunnel full of illegal immigrants.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Switching gears to the Whoo Hoo portion of today’s post which ironically also includes a police officer.

There have been a number of W.T.F. Wednesdays where I wrote about a police officer responding to a call and shooting an innocent dog.   Have you seen this post?

Officer Responds To Dangerous Dog Call, Comes Home With New Best Friend – Baltimore, Maryland (Courtesy of Modified k9 Blogspot)

The officer (Dan Waskiewicz) responded to a ‘vicious dog‘ call and upon arriving at the scene OBSERVED the dog.

After ASSESSING the situation he determined the dog was in distress.  He called the dog to him and shared his water, then as he was driving the dog to the shelter, he decided he wanted to keep the dog!

Luckily for Bo, this officer was 1) a dog lover and 2) sensible enough to know the difference between dangerous and distressed, otherwise this story might have ended up in the W.T.F. portion of this post.

Lately I’ve been hearing at least one story a week where an officer shoots an innocent dog. Perhaps observing and assessing should become part of their training.

What do you think?  Do you think police officers are properly trained to handle situations involving dogs?

W.T.F. Wednesday

July 11, 2012 By Jodi

Joseph and Margaret Trueman were newlyweds when they left Ireland for America at the turn of the 20th century.

Carefully transported in her trunk, Margaret brought the family bible.  If you turn the delicate gold-edged pages to the section separating the old testament from the new testament, you will find the meticulously recorded births of all five of her sons, as well as the death of the one who did not survive.

Margaret Trueman was my great-grandmother, I found her bible when I was cleaning out my grandmother’s basement.  The cover has seen better days, but the words transcribed inside still remain to this day.

Many has been the day when I carefully turn the pages of that old bible, running my hands along the soft, silky pages and thinking of her and the life she left behind in Ireland.

I wonder, what dreams compelled her to leave the only home she knew and travel to another country far away from home and kin.  I wonder if  America helped her fulfill those dreams.

She died when I was very small and sadly I have no memory of her.

My whole life I’ve dreamed of going to Ireland, to the family farm for visits with cousins so far removed we can’t even determine how we are related.  Settled in at the old kitchen table, over cups of tea, with cream made fresh on the farm, we will get to know each other, to share our lives and dreams.

Today I dream of a world, where pets aren’t yanked out of loving arms and condemned to die, just because of the way they look.

Hey Belfast City Council, today’s WTF Wednesday is all yours.

Lennox the dog ‘humanely put to sleep’ – Belfast, Ireland

I don’t know about you, but I call bullshit.

There is nothing humane about what the Belfast City Council did to Lennox or his family.

If you live in the ‘dog’ world, you more than likely know about Lennox, deemed a ‘dangerous breed’ by the Belfast City Council, he was removed from his family and sentenced to die.

For the last two years, Lennox remained isolated from his family, alone but certainly not forgotten.  For two years his family fought valiantly for his return but they were denied every step of the way.

Despite the fact that well-known dog trainers offered to take Lennox and bring him to the United States, the city council refused.

Victoria Stillwell flew to Ireland prepared to take Lennox on a moment’s notice, still the council refused.

No, the Nazi’s of the dog world had spoken.

This morning the sad news was released that Lennox was put to sleep.

Truthfully I’m not surprised and I’ll tell you why.

My belief is that Lennox has been gone for quite some time.  What other explanation is there for not allowing anyone to see the dog in two years, why would they refuse to allow the family to have the body of the dog?  Why did the council vehemently refuse any and all offers to re-home the dog?

Because the dog was already gone.

Whether he died from their negligence or whether they just went ahead and euthanized him before all efforts in court were exhausted, I truly believe they COULD NOT produce the dog.

Run Fast, Run Free Lennox

Sadly Ireland does not stand alone in their ignorance.  Many cities in this country have Breed Specific Legislation and it’s wrong.  A dog should never be judged on looks alone.

When will we learn to punish the deed and not the breed?

I have a dream that one day we all will be judged by what’s in our hearts, not by how we look.

Run Fast, Run Free Lennox, you may be gone but those you left behind will continue to fight.
