Have You Seen My Camera?

March 21, 2012 By Jodi

Last Thursday after months of trying, I finally captured Sampson and that cute thing he does.

On video.

I’ve planned the post to go along with it for months.  Rolling it around in my head, thinking of all the different things I could add to make it that much better.

I thought about when the best time to post it would be and how I would handle this blog when the video goes viral.

I sat down and drafted the post a couple of days ago.  I read it and re-read it.  I changed some words.  I thought of the a couple of pictures I could add to make the post that much better.

Finally, finally I was ready to upload the video.

And I can’t find my camera.

I’ve checked every where that I can think of and I just don’t know what I did with it. 🙁

Happy Birthday To My Sweet Niece

March 19, 2012 By Jodi

Eighteen years ago today my life was changed by the addition of one sweet little blond-haired, blue-eyed baby girl.

Since we lived side-by-side in a duplex and I was her daycare provider we spent a lot of time together and had a lot of fun.

My schedule was to take the kids to the bus stop, then come home and a short time later her mom would leave for work.  One Monday when Taylor was about two years old, her mother’s work schedule changed and she had to leave earlier than normal.

I was sitting at the bus stop when I realized, “Shit, I forgot Taylor!”  I threw the kids out of the car and rushed home to find her sitting on the couch throughly engrossed in a Winnie The Poo video.

She had just turned four when I left daycare and headed back to the work force, it broke both of our hearts and shortly after that she moved to another town.

It was a lot harder maintaining a relationship with me working full-time and us living in different towns.  We’d still do a school shopping trip, Christmas and birthday shopping for her mom, and the occasional movie or special event, but I didn’t see her nearly as much as I would have liked to.

Seven and a half years ago Taylor’s life changed when she fell in love with her dog Sampson.  Yes, she tells her friends that he is her dog.  See she spent summers at my mom’s which was right next door to us so she got to spend lots of time with Sampson.  Naturally they fell madly, deeply in love.

This is Taylor at her 18th birthday party last Friday.  Notice who is paying close attention to her.

What are you doing, T?

You may have also noticed, who isn’t there.  Yes, Delilah had to go in the den with Hubby because I knew once that Pinata broke, she’d give those kids a run for their money to get that candy.

Eighteen years.  Where does the time go?

That little blue-eyed, blond-haired baby is now a brown-eyed, blond-haired young woman, poised on the brink of adulthood, ready to dart off to college.

I hope while she’s out there reaching for the stars, she remembers where her dog is.

Happy Birthday Taylor!

All my love,

Hauntie

The Importance Of Business Cards

February 12, 2012 By Jodi

Do you have a business card for yourself?  Your blog?

I made a card up for myself for my “Along Came Sampson” website.

The card was made up with this picture on it.

The front of the card  says, “DO YOU KNOW SAMPSON” and it lists his website address along with my name.  On the back of the card, I have my e-mail address, my cell phone number and this blog address.

I had these cards made up when I was focused on my children’s book, “Along Came Sampson.”  I still have the website, but I really don’t do much with it, instead my focus has changed and I now work pretty diligently on this blog.

The reason I bring all this up is, today when I was at the grocery store I stopped at the Deli.  I ordered some all beef bologna and the man who was taking my order asked how thick I wanted it.  I told him the thickness and indicated it was for the dogs.

“Oh, what kind of dog do you have?”

“They’re labs.”

His eyes lit up, “You don’t happen to be a breeder do you?”

Turns out he’s been looking for a lab for months, he’s looked at the lab rescue sites but has been put off because the dogs are from out of state and he wants to meet the dog before he adopts it.

I get that.  So I said, “Here’s my card, I know the woman who does placements for Labs 4 Rescue and I know they have dogs in CT.  There are also options of fostering to adopt.”

Turns out he’d never thought of that.

Now, if I hadn’t had my card I could still have given him my information, but I would have had to write it on the back of a receipt or something.  This way he has my name, number, e-mail addy and blog address all in one place.

If you don’t have a card for your blog, Vista Print does a really nice job and you can get 250 cards for $10 which includes shipping.  I don’t think that’s a bad deal at all.  In fact, I’m thinking of ordering myself some more cards with the focus on this blog.  I’m not really sure whether I will keep the Along Came Sampson website or not.

If you don’t have cards for your blog, do you think you could benefit from having cards?  If you do have cards, do you use them and have you found them to be beneficial?

Book update, still the same.
