Follow Up Friday-The Only Flea I WANT Near My Dogs

November 15, 2013 By Jodi

Hello and welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, co-hosted by Jones Natural Chews and Heart Like a Dog.  This is the blog hop that wraps up your week and leads you right into the weekend!

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

As I mentioned joining me today is Flea from Jones Natural Chews.  I love Flea.  She’s super awesome.  And she’s got a great job, siriusly she goes around giving treats to dogs.  All kinds of dogs!   Imagine having a job where you get to play with dogs all day.  Sounds like heaven to me!

Thanks for joining me today Flea!!

Follow-Up Friday

Lauranne said, “Nuticles is a brilliant word – I may have to adopt it!!”

I wish I could take credit for it, but I can’t!  I first heard about it on Something Wagging This Way Comes  Trust Pamela to find something like this. 🙂

A Big Ole’ Shit Eating Grin

JoAnn asked, “Does he grunt when rolling on back?”

Sometimes he does, mostly he grunts when he’s getting off the couch.  It reminds me of a pig. LOL

Smiley McSmiley

Roxy the Traveling Dog asked, “Does your vet offer cleaning without it?”

I don’t know, but seeing as there are other things he will have taken care of, I think it’s best to put him out.

Maggie said, “I’ve always worried about anesthesia, too, but I think you set yourself up for success if you do the optional pre-anesthetic lab work.”

And 2 Brown Dawgs asked, “Your vet will do blood work first right?”

I agree Maggie and yes to 2 Brown Dawgs.  I set it up so I can bring him in the night before and have the blood work done. They will run the results while we wait.

When Delilah went to be spayed we were in the process of moving and the vet’s office called (not my current vet) and said she had a UTI and they couldn’t do her surgery.  She was stuck all day at the Vet and hadn’t eaten breakfast.  I finally convinced them to give the poor thing some kibble.

My vet tech friends JoAnn and Jen both reassured me things will be okay.  Remember the date Jen, you can be sure I’ll be texting you on that day. 😀

Cocobanana

After I posted I thought, geez, it would have been nice to show what the cookies looked like!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA As you can see, the M&M’s didn’t fare so well in the baking process.

Donna said, “The cocobanana sounds great for the pups, and love your jingle at the end, but tell me more about those orange chocolate chip muffins.”

It’s been a long time Donna, but I’ll work on a recipe for you. 😉

Oz says, “Great dawg! Can I come live with you, Miss Jodi?”

I’ve already got your little bed picked out Oz!

2 Brown Dawgs asked, “So besides being too moist, did you like the people version?”

YES.  I liked the people version and the dog version, the combination of the coconut and banana gave it a perfect amount of sweetness.

Dawn asked, “Too bad I hate baking. Can you mail me some?”

I’m not sure how they’d hold up seeing as there are no preservatives in them, but I’d try.

Good Gracious Sebaceous!

It’s hard to get a photo of this thing when you’re attempting it alone, but here goes.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

JoAnn said, “It’s best to have them removed so they don’t rupture causing a mess and possible infection.”

I hadn’t known they could rupture, so I’m glad it’s being taken care of.

Julie said, “I’m going to pretend like I didn’t just try to lick my elbow :)”

LOL Julie, I tried too!

Kristine said, “But it bothers me greatly just how much I care about these things. Logically, I know they shouldn’t.”

I agree Kristine.  I don’t know how to fix that.  I’m so very different on the phone or online than I am in person.  In person for some reason my light dims, and I became hugely self-conscious.

Jackie said, “I wouldn’t knock a dog out strictly for something cosmetic.”

I wouldn’t either!  That to me is true vanity.

Sampson’s Puzzled – This ‘N That Thursday

Pamela said, “BTW, want to make a Sampson and leaf puzzle even more challenging? Give it oddly shaped edges.”

She’s evil that one.

Houndstooth said, “Wait! You can do puzzles on the iPad?! How did I not know this?”

Yes you can do puzzles on the iPad!  My favorite was one by Sparkle, (it was free, what can I say, I’m cheap.)  But when Apple updated their IOS, the app wouldn’t work right and I haven’t found another one that I love. 🙁

That wraps up this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, co-hosted by Jones Natural Chews and Heart Like a Dog! Reminder, if you’d like to co-host with me, please let me know in the comments!

About Those Wooly Bears

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

About those wooly bears:

Sue said, “When the brown bands on woolly worms are narrow, it means a harsh winter. The wider the brown band, the milder the winter will be.”

I knew it was something like that!

Frankie and Ernie had a great post with detailed information about what the stripes on the wooly bears mean.

You Make Me Smile – I’ll Always Want a Lab

Houndstooth asked, “Delilah is one dog I would love to meet in person! Can you bring her to Vegas for me?”

I know that anything goes in Vegas, but honestly I’m not sure even sin city is ready for this dog!

Blueberry’s Human said, “Nose prints on my clothes though – or nose juice running down my neck in the morning from B’s head being under my chin – that makes me smile every time. The first time it happened I thought I was sweating and then realized, ‘Nope, that’s from her nose!’.”

Now that made me laugh!  Neither of my dogs have ever dripped ‘nose juice’ down my neck.

And here is the punk picture as promised.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA I love this photo, it looks to me like she’s smiling!

I Spy With My Little Eye

So here is the original photo.

And here are the comments:

Jackie said, “Yeah – how do we get the average non-picker-upper to pick up? Those are probably the same “the rules don’t apply to ME” people I see all the time doing stuff like texting while they drive. How do we get them to stop doing ALL the bad things they do?”

I wish i knew.

Oz said, “I snoop, and I snoop but I cannot locate the poop (in the photo)!”

I love this Oz!  Even when it’s not limerick month, you are still a rhyming kind of dog!

Donna said, “Ugh. I can understand losing it in the leaves, that happens in my own yard, especially with Miss Medi the walk-while-she-poos dog, but in the middle of the path??”

Delilah does that too.  In fact, sometimes I call her “Delilah shit-walker.”  Shhh, don’t tell her.

Sugar asked, “Yikes on Delilah … did it smelled?”

I didn’t smell it, but I think it was a couple of days old and had lost it’s potency.

I’m pretty sure that some of you spotted the poop, only you know for sure.  Let me know if you did.

Did you spot it?
Here it is.

Click on the photo to enlarge it.

She Just Needed a Chance

Callie, Shadow and Ducky’s Mom asked, “What I can’t figure out is why the adoption fee at your pound is 10 times higher. For residents than it is for non-residents. Shouldn’t it be at the very least only a few dollars higher; and more logically a few dollars lower??”

You know, I really wanted to call the pound and ask them, but then I knew I’d ask about her and I was afraid of the answer.  I’ll try and call this week.

Jessica asked, “Is there any way you could get a group together to advocate for longer hold times?”

We do have some really great animal advocates in this state.  I’ll see what I can find out.

My other thought is, their website says, “Can be euthanized” at the 10th day, and I’m wondering if that is dependent upon how many animals they are housing.

2 Brown Dawgs said, “I don’t understand the thinking of removing a dog from any given situation only to euthanize it. Or maybe euthanizing this dog was what they had in mind when it was removed? That to me is the question.”

Another really good question.  My thought is euthanizing the animal is more compassionate than letting it die slowly and suffering.

Fetch Mama

Gizmo said, “Delilah you’re a great coach but like your mom there are some pounds on Momz that won’t come off no matter how hard I work her…She tells me it’s cause she’s older than dirt and her metabolism is broken…Now I don’t know what that means, but I think she’s just lazy.”

Delilah here:  I wonder if that’s not the case with my Mama too, she seems to always have an excuse for not doing something.

And Mama?  I read that and that’s just mean.

Which Way Did He Go?

Chipmunks are cute, but they can be very destructive.  Sadly we need to find a way to remove them.

And on another sad note, Bennie the Frenchie, the little hero of our calendar fundraiser, lost his fight yesterday.   Our hearts and prayers are with his Mama and Lily.

That’s a wrap for this week’s Follow-Up Friday.  If you are interested in co-hosting, please let me know either in the comments, on facebook or drop me an e-mail.

Follow-Up Friday

October 4, 2013 By Jodi

Welcome to this week’s edition of Follow-Up Friday, the blog hop that let’s you wrap up your week and leads you right into the weekend.

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop

Joining me this week is Lynda from Two Ears and a Tail.  Lynda was a surprise friend I met while attending BlogPaws.  Lynda joined us when we went out to dinner and I was lucky enough to sit next to her, where she shared the story of her adoption of BJ, the hero of her blog.  If you haven’t met BJ and Lynda yet be sure to stop by and say HI!    Thank you Lynda for co-hosting with me!!

Follow-Up Friday

Ducky’s mom said, “Naw, if you happen to see someone not picking up after their own dog, yell to them to get their a$$es back there & pick it up. If they refuse, run ahead of them, snap a picture of their face. THEN, when you get home, put a caption like “this person does not clean up his/her dog’s poop”, print a bazillion copies, and plaster them all over the park and town.”

And I’ll tell you WHY I DON’T do that.  I worry that people will be vindictive and call animal control on me or harass my dogs in some other manner.  I know it’s probably paranoid, but that’s just how I think.

You Make Me Laugh

Jackie said, “Rita is the opposite. She almost never reminds me to feed her.”

You know Sampson used to be like that with his Kibbles, I’m not sure if he would remain quite as patient now that he’s on raw, but for sure he wouldn’t start bothering me half an hour before his scheduled meal.   Hubby and I have a running joke whenever we are out past their dinner time.   We think Delilah is dancing around the house saying, “Will they be back? When will they be back?  Do you think they know they’re late?”  While Sampson would just be patiently waiting.

Houndstooth said, “Ha ha ha! I would enjoy watching a Delilah reality show! Just sayin’!”

Sign me up.  I’ve often thought of wearing a helmet cam just to capture her antics.  Honestly, if you could hear her whining as I’m preparing her breakfast you’d think she hadn’t eaten in a week.

He’s Different on Leash

Rebecca asked, “Have you tried walking them on a coupler?”

No, I haven’t, but I think I may have to try it.

Donna asked, “What about shortening Sampson’s leash up when you walk, since he likes to stay close by you anyway?”

That’s what I try to do, it’s just a pain winding the leash around my hand.

Jodi asked, “If Delilah had been on leash, do you think Sampson would have run up to those people or do you think that he was just following her lead?”

Yes he would have.  When you get right down to it, Sampson is a people dog.  He loves people far more than he loves other dogs.  When we pull up to the park and he notices another car, he’s on a people hunt, you can see it in his demeanor.

10.3.13 002 Excuse the blurriness of the picture, but this is Sampson on the hunt for someone on our hike.

Jen K left a great video of her walking Alma on a hands free leash.  All I’ve got to say is, you are brave.  I can’t imagine walking either of my dogs with a leash attached to my waist, without a lot more training.  There have been times where they have lurched on the leash and pulled me, and I can’t imagine that coming from my waist.

Most of the time he’s very good off-leash.  BUT when we come upon people unexpectedly and I don’t get the chance to call him back (or he’s seen them first) that’s when the real trouble is.

For instance Tuesday we ran into another dog.  I had Sampson sit and he stayed, until the other dog moved and then there was nothing I could do to get him back.  I just had to let it happen.  (The other dog was also off-leash.)

You Can’t Save Them All

Pam said, “I’ll reserve my nasty thoughts for her previous owners.”

You don’t have to.  You’re welcome to share them here.  It’s not like I haven’t thought them. 😀  Don’t get me wrong.  Sometimes animals need to be re-homed, I understand that.  That is not the case with Sugar. If I had my way I’d chain her owner up to a tree in the dirt.  I have a really bad word for people like her, but even I won’t use it on this blog.

Jen said, “One dog at a time.”

Yes ma’am, if that’s how it has to be done, then that’s how we’ll do it!!

Cokie the Cat

Did you think it strange to find a cat on a dog blog?  Last year when Something Wagging did the Pet Blogger Gift Exchange I was paired with Cokie.  His mom is super amazing, kind and generous.  I know her heart is hurting right now and I wanted her to know that I’m thinking of her.

Dogs Just Want to Have Fun

This is going to be challenging for us as the days are shorter and it’s getting dark earlier.  By the time October ends, there will be no more walks in the woods after work.  Any after work walks will be around the block and Hubby is not keen on doing this, so we will have to work extra hard to get some fun things going on in the house.

Jan K said, “We really want to join k9 Kamp this time, but we are definitely going to need some ideas.”

Here’s one for you that I saw on Kol’s Notes.  Monkey in the middle.  Try throwing tiny treats over the dog’s heads.  You can stand as close or as far apart as you want.

That’s it for me, many thanks to Lynda from Two Ears and a Tail for co-hosting with me this week.
