Life on a Llama Farm

August 1, 2013 By Jodi

Most of our days are spent relaxing on the front deck.  Oh and when the horses come out the dogs run down to the fence to bark, or in Sampson’s case, whine at them.

Since today is This ‘N That Thursday, (many thanks to our host the 2 Brown Dawgs) I thought I’d share a few photos.

photo (1) Here is Hubby getting cozy with one of the llamas, I think her name is Breezy or is it Rose?  I’m not sure.

photo (2)

Here I am with the same Llama.  She was the friendliest.

photo (3)

Here is one of the three donkeys on the farm.  I have a very cute video of the donkey running the fence line and playing with the dogs, which will have to wait until I can upload it.

photo (4) This was on our walk yesterday.  They call them paved, two-lanes roads.  I do not.

photo (5) Delilah is desperate to get into water, any water.  She’s even considering the hot tub.

I have more photos which I’ll work on posting once I get home and get my computer issues resolved.

This morning it is pouring.  So we will stay hunkered down on the porch and hopefully we will get a break in the weather so we can take a walk.

The Dogs of Blogville Calendar Contest

I had every intention of getting this contest going last Monday, but the computer issues have really put a damper on it.  I hope to have it up and going early next week.  Please bear with me.

Co-hosted Follow-Up Friday

My co-hostess for tomorrow is the one and only, Pup Fan from I Still Want More Puppies.

That’s it for me, many thanks to our friends at 2 Brown Dawgs blog.

If the linky code won’t work you can get it here.

There’s a Big Bird in Our Woods

July 25, 2013 By Jodi

Today we join our friends at 2 Brown Dawgs Blog for This ‘N That Thursday.  It’s THIS and THAT and anything goes day.  Which is totally cool.  Thank you to 2 Brown Dawgs for the hop!

This 'N That Thursday

There’s a Big Bird in Our Woods

Yesterday was probably the most enjoyable walking day we’ve had since May.

Except for the Big Bird.

Yes it’s true, I live in an area with lots of wildlife.  I’ve seen deer, wild turkeys, fox, and raccoons to name a few.  But yesterday on our walk, I saw a Big Bird.  I mean a really BIG Bird.

I kid you not.

Memorial Day weekend it was so cold we had a fire burning in the fireplace.  We went right from that to heat and humidity.  Because of the love affair the bugs have with me, I walk in long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, a hat and a bug screen.  It’s not a pretty sight, in fact I’m pretty sure I’ve scared a few people who have come upon me unexpectedly.

IMG_5310 See what I mean?  Besides being scary, it can make for a very hot walk.  In fact, I sweat like a whore on payday.

Which is why the break in the humidity came as a welcome relief, and the dogs and I had a lovely walk yesterday evening.

Except for the really Big Bird.  I saw it first and as one does when they see something suspicious or scary you try to stay clear of it.  So I redirected the dogs and thankfully they missed seeing it.

Except this really Big Bird was right on our path to go home.  I know.  The horror.

I shuddered thinking how will I get the dogs past this bird, without risk of someone losing a limb?  I thought about Storm and how she tackled that Canadian Goose that was bigger than she was and she won.  But she’s a Chessie, she’s a tough dog and trained to hunt birds.

My dogs aren’t.

I tried to keep the dogs away from it, but it really piqued Sampson’s interest and I could only hold him back so long.

I told them to Leave It, but eventually there was nothing more I could do and Sampson surged ahead to investigate the Big Bird.

I have to warn you, the photo is shocking.  Not at all the type of bird you’d expect to find in the woods.

IMG_5345 I told you it was a Big Bird.

WTF?  I’m not walking on Sesame Street people, I’m walking in the freaking woods.  How the hell does Big Bird get in my woods?  I’m flabbergasted.  What will I find next?  Dora the Explorer?

Wait a minute, maybe I know where Waldo is.

Blog Reading

I’m behind again on blog reading.  But there is some good news.  I have some time off coming up and expect to catch up.

I guess Feedly still has some issues to work out.  I signed in the other day and it told me I had over 700 posts to read, which was an increase of over 400 from the day before.

While some of you really are voracious writers I knew that had to be incorrect.  Thankfully it was.  For some reason it was telling me the WordPress tips blog (which I follow but rarely read) had over 400.

Follow-Up Friday’s Co-Hostess

I’m thrilled to tell you that tomorrow’s co-hostess is another repeater, Sue from The Golden Life.

That’s it for today, many thanks to 2 Brown Dawgs for This ‘N That Thursday.

This ‘N That Thursday – July 18, 2013

July 18, 2013 By Jodi

Today we join our friends at 2 Brown Dawgs for This ‘N That Thursday

This 'N That Thursday

It’s a little of this, a little of that and everything in between….

Follow-up Friday –

You remember my good friend Jodi Chick?  She co-hosted the blog hop with me a few weeks back and I’m happy to say, it didn’t scare her off.  She’s back for another go and will be co-hosting with me tomorrow.

Jodi got royally screwed and I don’t mean by one of those handsome princes.  No, Big Brother Google (the incestuous bum) screwed Jodi’s RSS feed when Google Reader went the way of the dodo.  Jodi needs some help getting her readers back.  If you don’t read Kol’s Notes you are really missing a great blog.  So please hop on over and check them out.  Oh and don’t forget to add her RSS feed to whatever reader you’re using.

I happen to be using Feedly right now and I was getting Kol’s Notes every day, but all of a sudden nothing!  So if you’re a follower of Koly’s and haven’t been getting his posts, you may want to go back in and add them to your reader again.  When I added the feed yesterday I had to add a /feed to the end of the web address and viola, I got Kol’s Notes back in my feed again!

Excessive Heat Warning-

Just like the rest of the country, we’re in the midst of a heat wave.  The weather is so hot and humid, walking should be done early morning or later at night.  Right now I’m keeping our walks short.  Like 20 minutes short.  It’s just too dangerous otherwise.  Last night we walked the dogs at 9:00 pm and it was still 86 degrees out.

The good thing?  There weren’t very many bugs!

Dogs of Blogville Calendar Contest-

You remember the hastily put together Dogs of Blogville Calendar Contest in October/November of last year?  I decided in a moment of brilliance or stupidity to have a calendar contest that ended up benefiting some fellow bloggers.  I threw the idea out, got some photos back and then I was lost.  Thankfully I have an amazing blogville family and the extremely awesome and incredibly talented Julie from The Daily Dog Blog and Leg Up Creative Solutions threw herself in the water with me and handled every detail of the calendar design and production.

Every. Single. Detail.

Well my dears, Julie has agreed to once again assist with this calendar project.  I hope to nail the specifics down and make an announcement next week with the contest guidelines.  So if you’re planning on purchasing calendars this year, you may want to set some money aside.

And start looking through your photos.

For those who didn’t purchase a calendar last year, this is the beauty who has been gracing my wall these past 18 days.

Honey from Something Wagging This Way Comes.

Honey from Something Wagging This Way Comes.

You can see what a great job Julie did with designing the calendars, the material is good quality, the calendars are printed in the good ole US of A AND the modest price of the calendar included the shipping.

While I haven’t yet priced calendars this year, I expect them to fall within the $20 to $25 range, which should include shipping.

So stay tuned!

Many thanks to our friends at 2 Brown Dawgs Blog.
