This ‘N That Thursday

September 13, 2012 By Jodi

Today we’re joining our friends over at 2 Brown Dawgs Blog on This ‘N That Thursday.  As 2 Brown Dawgs says, This ‘N That Thursday is for times when you want to post about unrelated topics or each topic isn’t quite long enough to make up a whole post.  It can be anything you want, so feel free to grab the button and join us!

Blog Hops

I’m working hard on developing a following on this blog and am always looking for ways to increase readership.

One of the ways to do this is by blog hops.  I currently know of blog hops that take place on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

I’d considered making Follow-up Friday into a Blog Hop, but wasn’t sure if there was an interest in it.  During one of his comments, Hawk at Brown Dog CBR mentioned his human would be interested in taking part in a Follow-up Friday blog hop.

I figure what the hell, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Since I have no experience with organizing a blog hop, it may take me a bit of time to figure it out, but I’m willing to try.

I’m structuring the FUF a little bit differently than the traditional blog hop.

I’d like to share the opportunity to increase readers with other blogs that want to grow, in order to do this, I will make the FUF a co-hosted event.

The twist is there will be a different co-host each week.

If you’d be interested in participating in or co-hosting a FUF post, please let me know in the comments.

For right now, I will take people in the order they show interest.  I will keep a running tab and can announce every Friday who the next Friday’s co-host will be.

The other thought I have is to promote this blog hop to other bloggers, not just pet bloggers, this might open up a whole new avenue of readers.

I will be working on a new badge for this event as well.  Here’s what I’m thinking for the badge, two sets of footprints, human and dog across the width of the badge.

The slogan will be Follow-Up Friday, the not-just-for-pet-bloggers blog hop, that wraps up your week and leads you right into the weekend. (I got this one from a comment left by Long Life Cats and Dogs.) 😉

Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

Now if we can convince 2BrownDawgs into making This ‘N That Thursday into a blog hop, all the days will be covered. 😉

Pictures

I have a little point and shoot camera that is almost always in my back pocket on our walks.  A few days ago I snapped these pictures and I thought they were so pretty, I just had to share.

When I was framing this shot (if you can call it that) I kept saying, “Don’t go towards the light Sampson, don’t go towards the light.”

As you can see, Delilah is back on her 15 foot leash.

Do you have any ideas on how to caption these photos?

Oh and don’t forget to leave me your thoughts and suggestions for a Follow-Up Friday Blog Hop.

Many thanks to 2 Brown Dawgs!!

Blog Re-Direct.

I was so excited to move the free wordpress blog over here to this new site.  I kept it all very hush-hush (with the exception of my cohorts in crime, Kari Pike, Jules Melfi and Jodi Chick) and one morning I simply redirected the wordpress traffic over to the new blog.  If you type in the old address www.jodistone.wordpress.com it will simply bring you here.

That’s great right?

Wrong.

Some of my readers who only get this blog through their e-mails have no idea that the blog moved because that blog is no longer posting!

I’ve decided I’m going to take the redirect down temporarily.

Don’t sweat it, I will continue to post my daily posts here, I will simply be posting a hey we’ve moved post up on the free WP.

All daily posts will continue on THIS website.

I just want to give you fair warning, just in case you are still in the habit of typing in the old blog address.

If you haven’t signed up for the subscription yet, please do, so you won’t miss anything that’s going on here. 🙂

Champion of My Heart

The very first dog that I ever remember being in my life was named Washy. She was a beautiful border collie, who looked a lot like Lilly over at Champion of My Heart.

I know many of you are following Lilly’s story over at Champion of My Heart.  If you haven’t heard about it, Lilly, an eight year-old Border Collie had an adverse reaction to a routine Rabies vaccine back in the beginning of the year.

She’s been fighting for her life since then.  Her human parents are trying desperately to save Lilly and their medical bills are very high, they’ve already spent over $15,000, and there is no end in sight at the moment.

Her current treatment program is costing them anywhere from $200 to $400 MORE per month, in addition to all her other medications and treatments.

Yesterday Sue over at Talking Dogs Forum had a guest post and put Champion of My Heart’s chip-in widget on the blog, I thought that was a wonderful idea, so I thought I’d throw it up here too.

Except when I add the code, it doesn’t show up as a widget.  So I would ask if you are inclined to help with Lilly’s expenses, please pop over to Champion of My Heart.

Please don’t think any amount is too small, because small amounts add up and every little bit counts.  And if you can’t contribute monetarily, I would ask you to share, because you never know who will see your post. 🙂

SAMPSON

I wanted to share an example of just HOW good my boy Sampson is.

Last night Hubby went outside to ‘button up the jeep.’  In good weather he likes to take the top and doors off, but has to make sure everything goes back on at night.  Sampson loves to be outside with his daddy, he sits or lies in the driveway and basically watches the world go by.

Sometimes friendly people and dogs walk by and Sampson and Daddy will step out for a visit.  Most nights Daddy ends this ritual with a quick walk up and down the street.

As soon as they stepped outside, I realized that Sampson did not have his ID collar on.  (We all know how I feel about that.)  I left Delilah in the kitchen after I’d made sure there was nothing edible within her reach.

As I opened the door, Sampson looked up at me from his spot down the driveway and I said, “Hey Big Boy, you need to have your collar on.”

I held up the collar as I spoke and he ran right up to me and waited while I secured it around his neck.

That’s how damn good and damn smart Sampson is.

I’m afraid he has ruined me for any future dogs.

DELILAH

Remember that post from a couple of weeks back, the one where Delilah’s head went through the screen after a cat?

In yesterday’s post I mentioned how Sampson and Delilah were outside on Tuesday when I got home from work.   You may recall that Delilah was on the balcony.  Hubby, Sampson and I went inside the house and were greeted by Delilah.

She came in through the ripped screen. 🙂  The kicker was that Hubby had stopped at Home Depot on his way home, but forgot to get the screen material.

The other thing I wanted to share about Delilah is this.  Last night I was sitting on my bed working on today’s post.

I was eating one of my (and the dogs) favorite snacks  – string cheese, while Sampson laid on the bed and Delilah sat on the floor both staring intently at me.

After I finished my snack, I stood up and slid my flip-flops (which had been on the floor next to the bed) on and almost hurled.  The left one was covered in drool. 🙁

Do your dogs have any funny quirks you’d like to share?  Sound off in the comments.
