Let’s Pretend

February 14, 2013 By Jodi

Today we once again join our friends at 2 Brown Dawgs for This ‘N That Thursday.  Some days there’s a little of this or a little of that, but not enough for a full post.

Thank you 2 Brown Dawgs!

Let’s Pretend

Let’s pretend that I’m like Jen at My Brown Newfies and that I actually think in advance to buy props and stage a Valentine’s day photo shoot.

Let’s pretend that once I’ve taken the photo, I can actually use a graphic image program to tweak that photo just a tiny bit.

Are you getting this?

Good!

Let’s pretend that this is a really awesome photo showing my dogs lying together in the shape of a heart.

Go ahead and laugh, I'm a writer not a graphic artist.

Go ahead and laugh, I’m a writer not a graphic artist.

Are you done laughing?

Okay, then I promise I’ll do better next year.

Unless I don’t.

Snow challenges

Sampson and Delilah have a little yard routine they do when they hear or sense someone or something outside.  Our yard is pretty large and normally they run out the door, down the deck stairs and up along the fence line. I call this synchronized running and if they ever offer it in the dog Olympics, I’m entering my two.  (One day I hope to capture it on video, because it really is amazing.)

Then they station themselves at some point along the fence and observe or bark at whatever they please.

And there are other days when they burst out the door and one runs the fence line, while the other one runs up the stairs.  I guess this is their Hawaii Five-0 “you go this way, I’ll go that way” approach.

Our back yard is mostly hill.  Up hill as you may or may not be able to see from the photo.  The dogs can get back there either by running the fence line or by the stairs in the back.

After Charmo hit, there was no place for the dogs to potty, so Hubby used the snow blower and made a path around the house and a small area off the deck, but he didn’t blow along the fence line.

IMG_4051 While the snow is beginning to melt, there is still a lot of it!

IMG_4052 These are the stairs up back, I haven’t had a chance to shovel them yet.

So the other morning when Sampson got his dander up and charged out the door I said, “Where you gonna go?”  Then I laughed as I watched him run from one side of the house to the other via the snow blown path.

This morning however, I noticed Delilah tentatively (VBP) picking her way down the fence line.  Apparently the snow has melted enough for her to attempt the backyard.

Hold tight, I’m still working on that video. 🙂

Many thanks from our friends at the 2 Brown Dawgs blog for This ‘N That Thursday.

Do you plan photo shoots for your dogs? What kind of programs do you use to watermark or tweak your photos?

This ‘N That Thursday

February 7, 2013 By Jodi

Today we’re joining our friends over at 2 Brown Dawgs Blog on This ‘N That Thursday.  Some days you have a little of this or a little of that.

Many thanks to 2 Brown Dawgs!!

Facebook

Facebook is a time suck for me.  I sign in to post my blog or check a story and before I know it, an hour has passed.

There’s a lost dog or a dog that’s on its last hours, I need to share those, and sometimes there’s a LOT of them.

Then I have the Oooh look, Nancy has the top score in Mahjong Trails or Oh my god, Kim is playing Criminal Case, a Hidden Object game moments.

And there I go, an hour gone that I’ll never get back.

But sometimes….you get that story that just grabs your heart.

A Special Valentine

(I think Mel actually shared this one.)

Valentine is a five-month old German Shepard. Unfortunately both of her front paws are deformed because her bone growth has occurred too fast and instead of the bone growing into the joint, the bones are pushing against them.

She is in incredible pain and rarely uses her front legs, but just look at this sweet girl!

295406_10150272550109955_162750503_n I took this photo from Trio Animal Foundation’s Facebook page.

The good news is there are surgeries and procedures which can help her, the bad news is the cost is a minimum of $10,000.

The very idea that the rescue was willing to work towards raising the funds just boggled my mind.  I quickly shot off an e-mail committing to a modest amount and stating I would share Valentine’s story with you today.

I’m so happy to report that they had actually ALREADY raised the funds needed for Valentine’s surgery!!  They posted the story on Friday and by Monday they had raised the money.

If you have a mo (moment for you non-Harry Potter readers), and want a feel good story, go check out their Facebook page.

Knock Knock

About two weeks ago Delilah and I hopped in the car to head to our Rally class.  Just as I hit about 40 m.p.h. I heard this knocking on my driver’s door.

I looked back at Delilah to see if part of her leash was hanging out of the window hitting my door.

It wasn’t.

I pulled over, got out and checked my door to see if anything was hanging.

Nothing.

I got back in the car and got on the highway.  Just as I hit 40 m.p.h. the rapping started again.

WTF is that?  I thought to myself.

I hope there isn’t some animal that somehow got stuck inside my door. (I had just read somewhere about beeping your horn before starting your car because sometimes small animals climb up inside the engine because it’s warm.)

In the dark of the car, my next thought was Oh. My. God.  I wonder if it can come out and get me?  I thought back to the story a co-worker told me of a friend of his who had a snake come up the front of her car between the windshield and the hood and hang on her wipers.

I scrunched over as far to my right as I could get, without climbing into the passenger seat while still maintaining my vice-like grip on the steering wheel.

As soon as we got off the highway, the noise stopped.

Thank God!  Whatever is in there doesn’t like speed.  I can tolerate it, as long as it’s not knocking on my freaking door.

Ooops, I hit 40 m.p.h. again and there it was.

Knock. Knock.

Who’s there?

I don’t know, but whatever you are, you’re scaring the shit out of me.

Finally, twenty long minutes later we had arrived at our destination.  I parked under a light and got out of the car and inspected the door again.

Guess what I saw?

I’ll tell you tomorrow.

Relax already, I’m just kidding.

It was the auxiliary cord to plug my phone/iPod into the radio.  The damn thing is SO long and I have a habit of sitting my phone in my lap and just unplugging it when I get out of the car, sometimes the cord falls out.

Had I looked closer the first time I stopped, I could have saved myself a terror filled ride.

That damn cord hangs over my rear view mirror now.

Have you ever had anything surprise you in your car? What does your imagination tell you about strange noises in the dark?

This ‘N That Thursday

Congratulations

We want to send our very best wishes to our dear friend Kari Pike from Hound Girl.  You may recall that Kari designed this blog for me, for which I’ll be forever grateful.

Yesterday she delivered a beautiful baby girl, Kylie Ann Pike, 8 lbs 1 oz, 19 inches long.  As far as I know, Mommy and Kylie are both fine.

Congrats Kari and Scott!  You have a beautiful daughter.

We won a contest!

Last week we won a contest at Dakota’s Den.  It was a Kyjen Squeaker Mat Character Sheep.

IMG_3913 Just look at this bad boy!  It has 16 (yes 16!) squeakers inside it.

IMG_3911 The dogs were definitely interested in it.

IMG_3916 I tried to make sure Sampson got it first, because we all know, it’s really Delilah’s toy.

If you follow Sampson’s Blog, you’ll have seen the picture in yesterday’s Wordless Wednesday post.  Yes Delilah wanted Mr. Sheep and she wanted him bad.

Sure enough within five minutes she’d gotten one of the squeakers out.

IMG_3923 She really loves Mr. Sheep.

IMG_3927 There’s something about a happy dog with something they love in their mouth that just makes me smile.

The dogs wanted me to send a great big Heart Like a Dog thank you to Dakota and his mom Caren for the awesome toy.  They really love it!!

Have you seen my Mojo?

I feel like I’ve hit a wall and I don’t know why.  Maybe I lost my Mojo, or maybe someone put the Juju on me.

Right after the Pet Blogger Challenge I had my calendar penciled out for a week’s worth of posts.  This week I can’t figure out what I want to write about.  It seems I’ve either lost my creativity, or I’m in a rut.  Either way I’m not liking it, but I’m just not sure how to fix it.

What do you do when you hit a wall?  How do you shake off the funk? Where do you find your motivation?
