Tasty Cubes

March 19, 2013 By Jodi

Do you Dorot?

I discovered these wonderful little cubes at Trader Joe’s.

IMG_4388

IMG_4489 Currently I’ve only used the Garlic and Basil, but I love these things!  They are little frozen cubes of herbs imported from Israel.

One cube equals one teaspoon, no chopping, mincing or crushing. I pop three cubes of Garlic and three cubes of Basil into my spaghetti sauce and it’s just perfect.

Perfecto.

At Trader Joe’s the price is $1.99, at my local grocery store it’s $2.99.

Once I’ve used all the little cubes I have a nifty little tray to do something else with.

Dog treats!

You could basically freeze anything in these cubes.

Here’s what I put it mine.

IMG_4387 This one has pumpkin.  I used a butter knife and plopped it in, then leveled it off.

IMG_4488 This one has some applesauce and some yogurt.

They freeze pretty quickly and they pop right out. (Except when you overfill the applesauce.)

I don’t know about you, but my guys are always hanging around the kitchen, and when they actually stay out of my way, I like to give them a little reward.  The problem is we’re also watching their weight so I don’t like to give too many traditional dog treats.

Besides, have you noticed all the recalls lately?  That’s right, when you make your own treats you know exactly what went into them.

Do you have trouble getting medication into your pup?  Is (s)he a pill spitter? I see no reason why you couldn’t freeze the pill inside one of these tasty little cubes an hour or so before it was due.

Presto, no muss, no fuss.

Here are some of the other things I’ve thought of that you could put in there:

Beef or chicken broth

Cottage Cheese

Peanut butter

What’s your pups favorite treat?  Do you think it’s freezable?

Frosty Blog Paws

February 12, 2013 By Jodi

Friday just before we got 3 feet of snow, we received a package from our friend Jen at My Brown Newfies.

Frosty Paw Puppy

Inside the priority mail box was two prize packages consisting of 2 coupons for free Frosty Paws dessert treats and a cute little stuffed puppy.

One package was for us to keep and one was to do what we pleased with. Truthfully I could have kept both, but why be greedy?

Especially when I want something from you.

BlogPaws Bound

In May of this year a whole host of awesome Pet Bloggers will be meeting in Tyson Corners, Virginia for the social media event of the year. BlogPaws!

In a moment of folly, I pitched a proposal to BlogPaws for a beginning blogging session titled, “I’ve started a blog, now what?”

Well put your money where your mouth is Jodi Stone, because BlogPaws accepted my proposal!

Yes, yours truly will be hosting a session at this year’s BlogPaws.

As most of you know (mostly because I whine incessantly about it) blogging is a learning experience. And while sometimes it takes me a while to learn things (thank you to all of you who answer those desperate questions of mine) there are so many things I wish I’d known about sooner, like two years ago sooner when I first started this blog.

That is what my session will be about. All the things that took me two years to learn about starting and growing a blog.

I have a list of subjects I wish I’d known about when I first started blogging and I figured if I had a list, you must have one too!

So see, here’s where the give away comes in.

I’d like your thoughts about what you wish YOU’D known about when you first started blogging. And it wouldn’t be fair to pick your brain and not give you something in return, right?

SO Share it with me in the comments and one lucky winner will receive a prize pack with two coupons for a free Frosty Paws dessert for your dog, along with a Frosty Paws dog.

Not for dogs (Note the stuffed toy is NOT FOR DOGS but for human use only.)

Also, I’m only authorized to ship in the US as Frosty Paws isn’t available in other areas.

BUT that doesn’t mean I don’t want my international friends to comment, SO here’s what I’ll do. Give me your comments, one and all and if the entry that wins is outside of the U.S. I will send you something entirely different and pick another entry for the Frosty Paws Prize package.

Don’t write a blog?  That’s okay too, I still want your input.  Tell me what kinds of topics you want to read about on this blog, or something I’ve written that you like.

No rush, I’ll draw the winning name next Wednesday, so if you can’t think of something right away, you still have time.

This is the Tasty Tuesday Blog Hop, hosted by Sugar the Golden Retriever and Kol’s Notes.

Kefir Madness

January 22, 2013 By Jodi

During Sunday’s post when I wrote about the dog’s diet, I mentioned I would share about their night-time treats.

Every night around 9 PM I make myself a snack, it seemed only fair since I was eating, that the dogs should get a treat too.

Delilah took to 9 PM treat time, like a Labrador takes to food, (or large bodies of water.) Needless to say, it’s not possible for you to forget snack time.

Over the years the treats have evolved.  What started out as raw hide, changed to twisted pork hide and after watching in horror as Delilah lodged a large piece of pork hide in her mouth, I decided we needed to find a kinder treat.

Since we were trying to help the dogs lose weight, I switched to a lower calorie treat.  On occasion I will stuff a Kong with pineapple and yogurt, but lately my go to treat has been the stuffed white bones.

IMG_3763 Once upon a time these bones were stuffed with processed cheese or peanut butter.

Now they are washed out every morning and I frost one end with pumpkin and stick it in the freezer.  When I get home from work, I fill the rest of the bone and freeze it until snack time.

Most nights the bones are filled with either applesauce or yogurt, but as I mentioned in my Sunday post the place where we buy our raw food has a nutritionist, she prefers something called Kefir. (Sounds like reefer.)

IMG_3762 This is like a pre-made smoothy.  It’s filled with probiotics and all of the healthy nutrients that come in yogurt, it’s a low fat, low calorie treat that you can feel good about giving to your dog.

Of course, you can always make yourself a treat as well.

I love things that I can make that I can also share with my dogs, is there any particular food that you make that you share with your furry ones?

This is the Tasty Tuesday Blog Hop,
