Heeeeeeere’s……………Manny!!

June 18, 2013 By Jodi

Today is the Tuesday’s Tails blog hop.  This hop hosted by Dogs N Pawz, showcases shelter dogs looking for their forever homes.

Of course, my heart barks (no that’s true, I had a cardiogram last week and I heard my heart and it wasn’t beating it was barking) for all dogs.

I’ve noticed as I visit other blogs participating in the hop, that we all tend to try and shine the light on the breed that has the soft spot in our hearts.  Mine happens to be Labradors.  And since I found out about Black Dog Syndrome, I’ve chosen to focus my efforts on Senior Black Labrador Retrievers in CT looking for their forever homes.

Most senior dogs that find themselves in shelters have already had loving homes and for one reason or another wind up in a shelter.  I won’t go into the reasons why they do because that will bring my stress level up and cause my heart to bark harder and then I will want five minutes……alone…in a room….with the owners.  And it won’t be to tell them what a nice dog they had.

Sorry about that, the mind wanders when you get to a certain age.

Thankfully we have a couple of great Labrador rescue groups in CT so most of the time, the dogs get pulled and placed in foster care.

This guy right here is Manny.

Manny #2: Black Labrador Retriever, Dog; Killingworth, CT

Petfinder introduces Manny as follows, “Manny is a sweet lovable senior lab who came to us as a stray.  We believe he is around 7 years old.  He has passed a behavior assessment and ready for a new home.  He just wants love.   He wants a family to love him in return for all the love and devotion he will give.  He loves children of all ages and his favorite thing is talking walks and meeting all the neighbors along the way.   If you think Manny could be your newest family member please email right away…he’s waiting.”

If you or anyone you know is interested in adopting Manny, please contact Shana LaPointe at shana2576@gmail.com.  Manny is being fostered in New England and I’m sure they’d be happy to arrange transport for you.  And if they won’t, you just let me know.  I’m sure between us and all the bloggers we know, we can figure something out. 😉

It’s Tuesday’s Tails, hosted by Dogs N Pawz

Meet EMMA

May 14, 2013 By Jodi

Hubby refuses to have a facebook page.  It’s all good, facebook isn’t for everyone.   Except he has a tendency to look over my shoulder and ask, “What’s that?”

The other day someone had posted a photo of their dog and he asked, “What happened to that dog?”

I said, “He’s missing an eye, that’s what our next dog is going to be.”

“A dog with one eye?”

“Not necessarily a dog with one eye, but the dog will be black and will either be a Senior or a Special Needs dog; or a Beagle rescued from lab testing.”

“I don’t want a Beagle.”

(I’ll tell you what Hubby always told the kids about “want” but I’ll save that for Friday’s post.)

I tell you all this because today I’m once again participating with Dogs N Pawz for the Tuesday’s Tails Blog Hop and I’m once again focusing my efforts on a Senior.

Meet Emma.  Emma is a ten- to twelve- year-old, fifty pound black Labrador Retriever looking for her forever home.  She’s a very laid back, yet sweet and loving girl who loves the company of people and other dogs. She’s house- and crate-trained, walks well on leash, loves to go for rides in the car, and generally does anything she can to please her people.  She’s looking for a loving home where a senior dog that walks a little slower, and enjoys her naps can have the love and companionship she desires.

Emma is currently being fostered in CT and is one of the Labs being sponsored by Labs 4 Rescue. All Labs 4 Rescue pups are altered, up to date on their shots and have been temperament tested.

For additional information about Emma #22 please email Susan Ekaireb at susanekaireb@gmail.com.

I’m not normally one for asking people to share my posts (of course if you love them and want to that’s totally your choice) BUT when it comes to helping dogs find a loving home to spend the rest of their days.  Well let’s just say, I’m not above begging.

Please share where you can.  Together we really can make a difference!!  This is Tuesday’s Tails Blog Hop.

Rescue Event

November 11, 2012 By Jodi

I spent a few hours yesterday at the Labs 4 Rescue Adoption event held at the Mellow Mutt, LLC.

While I’m not officially involved with Labs 4 Rescue, I have a friend who does the dog intakes so I go to lend moral support, help out where I can and basically spend time with some awesome dogs.

I also get to meet and talk to those who are really involved in rescue and sometimes make some great connections. Like the woman I met yesterday who does dock diving!

This event was run a bit different then the last Labs 4 Rescue event I attended.  For one thing Sara didn’t have the agility equipment out.  The last time it was out I think the kids played on it more than the dogs. 🙁

The other thing that was different was that most of the dogs were off leash so they had the opportunity to run around and really interact with people.

We did our best to get name tags on the dogs so anyone that was interested knew who to ask about, this didn’t always work but we did our best.

All told there were probably at least twenty dogs there and I took a ton of pictures, sadly I don’t remember some of their names, but I’m putting their pictures up anyway!  An event like this is a great place to learn about the dogs and their personalities.

For the most part they all got along really well.  There were one or two that got a little over-excited, and some that should really go to a home with an experienced dog person.

Hubby showed up too, and we were joking with a couple of people how the only color dog we were missing was black.

Then Hubby said and yellow because technically Sampson is a golden, and then my friend Marcie said, I think they even have gray ones.

I love my dogs but I think I’m quite content with the two that I have, HOWEVER there were two black dogs that I really fell in love with and if I were going to take one home it would have been Maddie or Rocky.

I really want my black lab to be a male because I intend on re-naming him Sirius Black Stone, but you’ll notice in the pictures that Maddie really took a shine to me.  I could tell the second I met her, she would be another challenging dog as she was all lab. 🙂

(You can enlarge the photo by clicking on it.)

What’s with that black dog syndrome? I’m loveable.
This guy didn’t want to leave his foster family.
Marcie gave her share of lovies. She was a rock star at this event!
Look at that smile, that’s a happy dog.

This lady took the floor approach as well.
Lots of lovies going around.
This is Summer. Sweet girl.
Chaz was all tuckered out. He was adopted! Yay Chaz!!

This young man just sat down and waited to be loved on.
This is Maddie, I could see her giving me a run for my money.
Can’t remember this guy’s name, but he was adorable. I think he was adopted.
Is this not the sweetest photo?

I can’t remember this guy’s name.
This is Gus, he’s only been with his foster mom for a couple of weeks. He loves playing with water bottles.
What do you mean I can’t go home with him?
Is one of them my furever family?

I don’t think I’m a glutton for punishment but I do like a good challenge. 🙂

Normally at these types of events the dogs do not go home with someone the same day. There were a couple of folks there who already had their adoption paperwork completed and were just waiting on the home visits.  There were two home visits that took place yesterday based on dog interest, so the beautiful yellow, (whose name I can’t remember) and Chaz (the little exhausted black lab) should be in their forever homes by the end of the day.

I love a happy ending, don’t you? Do you know anyone on the east coast looking for a great dog?  I’d be happy to work something out…..after December 1st of course!
