Walking

December 20, 2011 By Jodi

I didn’t have the opportunity to take the dogs for their walk on lunch yesterday, which meant we walked them around the block last night.

Delilah is on the thirty footer, no doubt about it.  On the thirty footer she has a little of the freedom that Sampson has, but I still maintain control.   I work her pretty hard on that leash, practicing for when we approach the dogs.  I let her sniff off to the side, then I say “This way” or “Come here pretty,” and let her make her own choice.  And last night she did, over and over again.

Last night the neighborhood dogs weren’t outside, but I would still say our walk was successful and truthfully I kind of prefer working Delilah without that added distraction.  She did try to wander close to the dog’s yard, looking for trouble but I had made sure I had treats to help distract and reward her.

We decided the dogs should wear their reflective vests when we walk them at night.  I discovered that my little point and shoot doesn’t do so well in the dark but I did manage a couple of pictures.

That tiny speck in the distance is Delilah

Sampson and Delilah getting their 'sniff' on.

Who's been peeing on my pole?

I also wanted to mention a sad bit of news I came across today.  A wonderful woman who rescues and helps many dogs, lost five of her fur babies in a fire last week.   If you’d like to send her a message here is the link to her blog.

Social Media For Social Good, Twitter

December 18, 2011 By Jodi

Today is the second part of the Social Media Blitz, hosted by Pamper Yourself In Pink and Two Little Cavaliers.  While WordPress won’t allow me to put the rafflecopter on my page, I am providing the link to a blog that can,  Two Little Cavaliers.

To enter the drawing to win $112  for yourself AND $213 for the charity of your choice, all you have to do is scroll down and click the links to follow people on Twitter.  It’s that simple and takes a couple of minutes of your time.

What’s that you say, you don’t have a favorite charity?  Well let me introduce you to one of MY favorite charities, Labs 4 Rescue.

While Delilah did not come to us through this particular rescue, I’ve recently gotten to know Ann who does all of the placements for this wonderful rescue.   When one of my readers got in touch with me about a beautiful lab that was being neglected, I didn’t know what to do.   The guy was going to put his dog on Craig’s List for $100.

I was in a panic.  I got on the horn with Ann, who told me some not so nice things that can happen to some dogs that are sold this way, she agreed to give the guy a call and see if she could convince him to surrender the dog.

She did.

Ann and our friend Dave went out and picked up Ranger, brought him to foster care, gave him some training and I am happy to report that Ranger has found his forever home.  He is now living on ten acres somewhere in Massachusetts. 🙂

Ranger was lucky, his story had a happy ending but not everyone’s does.  Some dogs will be spending the holidays in shelters, or worse will be spending their last days in shelters.  Please help me make a difference this year, go to this link and follow me (and other bloggers if you’d like) on Twitter.

It is THAT easy.

Maybe together you and I can make a difference.

Follow-Up Friday

December 16, 2011 By Jodi

For those new to the blog, my follow-up Friday provides me with an opportunity to update or revise a post from the previous week.  You know sometimes you post about something and you need an update but it doesn’t warrant a whole blog.  Or sometimes someone made a comment that really resonated with you.  Yup, Follow-Up Friday baby. 🙂

Cooperation – Update

Every night I enter the house with my cell phone (in video mode) in my hand, hoping against hope to catch Sampson doing that special something, but he continues to thwart me.  Tonight he sort of did it when my sister came over but it was really dark and it didn’t turn out!  Drat! I guess I just have to keep trying…maybe at Christmas. 🙂

Kreativ Blogger Award – Author’s Note

The first requirement to accepting this award is to thank the giver.  Which in my haste (and stress) to find 10 random things about me, I forgot to do.  So a GINORMOUS word of thanks to 2BrownDawgs for presenting us with the Kreativ Blogger award and secondly please accept my apologies for not thanking you sooner.

If you have a minute pop over and check out her blog, she has two awesome Chessies and they are presently nesting in anticipation of a new puppy. 🙂

One For The Team – Update

My finger is feeling much better and is way more comfortable bending.  This morning when loading the dogs in the car for daycare, I reached for the hatch to pull it open and Sampson jumped and the hatch smacked him right between the eyes on its way up.  Then he looked at me as if to say, What the hell did you do that for?”

I’m hoping our hatch stories are behind us. 🙂

So how was your week?  Anything exciting you haven’t share yet?  Like puppy names? 😉
