Happy Birthday

November 25, 2012 By Jodi

We had a great mini-vacation these past couple days.

I did a lot of shopping with my sister, which believe it or not is very unusual for me, because I typically don’t care for shopping.  Somehow when I get together with my sister, the urge to shop overtakes me.  Go figure.

Yesterday morning we got up and headed over to the local grocery store to pick up some food for the food pantry, after unpacking it, we headed to a local herb shop.  I swear I could have spent half the day there. 🙂

We went back to the house for lunch only to find that all the dogs were stuck in the house because the guys were taking down trees. 🙁

After lunch we ran out to the local co-op.  I was in a rush to get back to the house, so I could let the dogs out to run, but we were pleasantly surprised to find them all out and running about when we got home.

Bandit, my sister’s Jack-Rat. Don’t you love those ears?

Gordon, my sister’s Golden Retriever.

Delilah, Tyson, (a Bernese Mountain/Rottweiler/Pitbull mix,) he belongs to a friend of my sister and J.D. my sister’s Jack Russell.

Sampson. I like sticks.

There are some nice logging trails in the area and I wanted to take the dogs walking, but it’s hunting season and I forgot their vests. 🙁

So we walked around the property instead.

Gordy, J.D. and Delilah on our walk.

The dogs have had a great time, they spent a lot of time outdoors.

Delilah did especially well, for the most part she was off leash the entire weekend.

The weekend was extra special because today is my sister’s birthday and I got to wish her happy birthday in person.

Happy Birthday Laura, I enjoyed our time together this weekend.

What did you do?  Anything special?

Close Encounters of the White Kind

November 18, 2012 By Jodi

Just about the only benefit (as far as I’m concerned) to not having any leaves on the trees is visibility. Normally speaking I can clearly see the trail ahead of me at this time of year.

Last weekend as the dogs and I headed up to the woods, I saw Sampson stiffen, which is normally what he does when he sees somebody.

I was still a ways back but could just make out the white in the field, but I couldn’t tell what it was.

Who is it?

At first I asked him to wait, but as I got a bit closer I could see who it was, so I gave them free rein.

I watched them as I got closer, Sampson approached cautiously.

What is IT?

It looks like a big pile of I don’t know what.

Once he was close enough to discover what it was, he was fine.

Delilah (no surprises here) charged right up to it.

Snap, it’s only snow. I thought it was the Stay Puft Marshmallow man.

For a second I thought he was going to pee on it, but that passed. Phew!  Imagine poor Frosty with a big old yellow tie.

Of course, this weekend it was all gone, nothing left but a photo to even show it was there.

Has your dog ever encountered something like a snowman?  What was his/her reaction?

The Dogs of Blogville Calendar

I’d like to apologize for all of you having problems with the voting.  I’ve checked the settings on the poll and don’t understand why some people are having problems voting.

Misaki said, “Weirdly the poll didn’t seem to work on firefox, thankfully I still have IE still installed.”  As of now that is my only suggestion.  Try a different browser.  There are certain blogs I follow that for some reason don’t work in Firefox but they work just fine on Internet Explorer.  I’m sorry I can’t be of any more help with this.

I would suggest keep trying or trying shutting your browser off and trying again.  This morning when I was promoting on facebook my friends were telling me how the voting was going, but I couldn’t see it.

This is my first time using the WP Polls and I admit I don’t know a lot about it.

Ode To Fall

November 4, 2012 By Jodi

I’ve mentioned before that fall is my favorite time of year.

I love the beauty that comes with the changing of the leaves.

I welcome the cooler air, which allows for cozy sweaters, cuddles by the fire and hot toddies.

I’m grateful the bugs seem to go into hiding.

There is one thing that comes with fall, that I’m less than thrilled with.

It gets dark too early, which means the wood walks that I love taking with Sampson and Delilah only happen on the weekends, or on the rare day I can steal a longer lunch.

Which means our weekend walks are something to be treasured.

I’ve been working Delilah really hard on her recall, she’s gotten so a good part of our walk in the woods is off-leash.  Granted there are certain areas that I simply can’t take the chance of her wandering somewhere she shouldn’t, so I call her to me and she stays on leash.

I can live with this.  I like the fact that she gets some off-leash time to really run, which should help her keep her weight down.

There are many times during our walk, when Delilah is off-leash, but still right next to me.

Yesterday the four of us headed up to the woods.  I let Delilah off-leash right away, only clipping her when we approached those danger zones.

At one point I realized that Sampson was on one side of me and Delilah was on the other.  I turned to ask Hubby if he could take a picture.

Would you mind taking our picture?

But he was already on it. 🙂

This my friends, is my ideal walk.

Do you have an ideal walk?  Do you love it when a plan comes together? 🙂

My current word count is 5,078.
